They just come on, on the side you open, if you wire them to each side individually. Just so you know, I did run into a problem with them staying on. I think this particular reversed polarity so I got different ones to install but haven’t had a chance yet. @@richgibson1816 Thank you for your feedback. Then I might go the extra mile and tap into the "door" switch inside the map light console. I have partially dropped the ceiling panel before to install an aftermarket roof rack and dashcam so I know how, but a daunting task would be finding the correct wires up there.

Wow! That would be amazing! Maybe you can make a vid and show us a better way. That would be great! I’ve been thinking about a full roof rack, but it does seem a little daunting with the headliner and making sure it doesn’t leak… let us know how it goes and thanks again!

​@@richgibson1816 I finally tackled this mod and came back to follow up. I wired it directly to the rear dome light switch. Now, all rock lights and interior lights turn on with 1)any door open, 2)keyfob(unlock), and 3)when I am close to the car with keyfob, which are the main objective of this mod. And yes, it's controlled by the "Door" switch on the overhead console. Simply turn it off when privacy is required. Now my future mod is to separate the rock lights from the interior lights, using diodes and an extra switch, so I can use it as an ambient lighting when needed since they draw very little current. For this reason I installed amber lights all around, not just on the sides. Lastly, I didn't want to drill her so I routed the wire through the passenger side front fender, upto the engine bay, then through the firewall to inside. Bit of work but well worth it, and it's one of my top 3 mods so far. Oh and thank you for giving me ideas and motivation.

Oh my! I think I’m going to have to pass on that! The lights being LED will last a very long time. And I buy back ups for all of them I have put on, so if they ever run their course, I can replace them wire for wire and bolt for bolt and won’t even have to adapt new ones. No, I think I’m good! But please let me know if you do the mod with the upgrade… love to see it! Cheers
