Not a cross country traveler, but many years ago in Atlantic, Iowa, pulled into a motel at night. Didn't know about the struck stop a 1/4 mile away. Woke up next morning to the cocking of a rooster on the farm behind the motel and the fragrant aroma of cattle, hogs and sheep on a whole lot of carriers headed across the country. Man you're right, that smell was ripe! Love the videos. And as a New Yorker whose only non-car experience was pick-ups and small school buses it's great to see the west and listen to the banter. Keep on-truckin and posting the great content.
I Mike! My name is Shirley, and I am a stroke survivor who misses driving and vacations. You are a great driver from what I have witnessed over the past four months. I enjoy riding with you because you watch your language (a real sign of intelligence), are very interesting to listen to as well. You get me "out of the house" too! As a FYI, I pray for you every day.
Good day Mike,Im Larry all the way from Gloucester,UK....just had to say a few re the cow poo stink.......and you call yourself a mountain man!! Hi Mike: 550 is one of my favorite trips, El Paso to Farmington, at least once a year. My sister lives in Farmington. Great scenery good pavement. Thanks for the ride. See you soon Edward.
Noticed that the overhead signs on the interstate, some were made of painted pipe. Newer type design, to me. Enjoy your videos.Thanks. About twenty years ago I was headed north bound thru Raton pass. It was a foggy morning and about half way thru barriers showed up blocking the right lane. Saw how part of the right lane slid into the canyon......pucker factor went up😬
I got behind a tractor trailer like that several years ago. It had a large sign on the back that said "It smells like money to me". I got away form it as fast as I could. Whew!
Man the I-25 drive. Hard to say if every thing north of the springs or south of denver aren't suburbs. I remember when it was 110 miles from pueblo to denver. Now it's like what 85-90 or so.
Mike, I drove through Dalhart, Texas a few years ago, and just driving past the huge cattle feedlots outside of town I got the cab full of cow-smell. It took three days for that to dissipate! I used aftershave in the A/C intakes as well, but it was only a temporary fix.
Hello Mike Just wanted to drop you a quick line to say Hello 👋, & let you know that I think all your videos are kick ass, ‘Nuff said!!! Take care, safe journeys!
Imagine being the rear end train crew (when trains had cabooses) on a 50 or 80 car stock train (cattle or hogs) on a hot humid day when that used to be done. Farmers used to say, " That's the smell of money".
😅 I'm sorry I am laughing at your discription of being held hostage of the cattle truck! Been there - done that! I truck ahead of me lost part of his swarm of bee's. My windows were down. Let me tell you... you can't crank a roll up window fast enough 😨
Take it from someone who cleaned horse stalls here in Michigan for more than 40 years, and after you couldn't get all that frozen urine-soaked bedding out until spring,,,WOWZA!! The smell actually gets into your hair, and not only the hair on your head, but they hairs in your nose! Seriously!
Sorry bud but that smell is money $$$$, that’s of home for me, I live in central California, dairy capital of California, when I smell that upon returning from out of town trip means I’m home. But I understand most people can’t put up with that smell.
The cops used Vicks Vapo Rub and most of the smell was still, there. They still bitched about about the odor. They didn't realize that Vick's dialates the nose, and makes it smell worse.
Hogs & Cows & even Sheep has one hell of a smell, I know . manure is nice on the garden , but not smelling it all the time, winter's not as bad as summer.
Mike if you were answering a telephone call while trucking that would cost you 6 points on your license and a £150 fine here in the UK as drivers are being cracked down on for violating truck and driver safety - so don't come to the UK that is my advice.
Hmm, so they don't like the Jake, well f@#$ 'em!! I looove the music of a big and powerful Jake; it kind of reminds me of a heavy machine gun, or a guitar grind on the low strings, by Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)!! I just wish the Volvo weren't so "silent". Sigh, oh well.
26:30 your mention of a driver who jumped in front of you, only to hit his brakes and turn right over your bows. His was MOST inconsiderate and dangerous driving. Would it really have caused him much delay to have come in behind you, and turned right? About 3 seconds, perhaps - maybe not even that.
