Lordie Lordie I am all in for the puffed sleeves. I just made a dress from a 3 XL tall men's shirt and I cut the existing sleeves off, then halfed them and joined the extra on each side. So I got short puffed sleeves, gathered at the top and channel with elastic at the bottom. The sleeves are puff tastic. They are puff the magic dragon. If he lived in a Ralph Lauren Sea. I missed you while you were gone. Please make more. Love your style and teaching skillz!

Thank you for your sweet tutorial 🤍 I was just wondering why do you baste the gathers by hand? I go to fashion school and we always baste the fullness with the machine with 4.5 or 5 tension so we can pull the threads easily. Would you say it’s better done by hand? Thank you in advance! ✨

either way works!! I was taught that method too, especially for ruffles. I had a patternmaking professor that always wanted us to baste the gathers on sleeves by hand, so I guess that habit just stuck with me!

Great tutorial! Could you do a tutorial on those tops where it’s either a whip stitch or zigzag stitch on the seams and there on the outside? I don’t know if I’m explain it right but I’m having such a struggle trying to make one

I’ll keep it in my queue of videos :) a quick explanation anyway: They use an overlock machine with a contrast color thread for the seams! they pull the fabric as they are sewing it, to create that wavy look on the seams (known as a lettuce hem). Also, they change the overlock settings on the machine so it looks more dense with thread 🧵

Does this not cause a problem with the armhole on the bodice slopper?...meaning the sleeve becomes bigger than the slopper armhole?

Once the sleeve is gathered, it will fit into the armhole! The sleeve cap is made larger on purpose to get that puff effect :) don’t worry, just try it out for yourself!
