In this video you will see footage of catching Puget Sound keeper blackmouth and details of exactly how to repeat what we did for catching limits when we went out in Marine Area 10 in January 2022.
We will talk about bait, trolling gear, locations, whatever you need to know.
We also discuss the early closure and when we expect it to re-open based on the fact that we haven't hit any of the quotas yet.

Appreciate you keeping em wet, most people in boats don't do that. I try my best but haven't done as well as I would like

Yeah, can be a challenge especially in rougher water!

I like how you film a commentary that goes along with the video it’s very informative and effective. Hopefully it’s constructive but having the camera on your head while you’re on the boat is really tough to watch. Lots of movement. Maybe it would be better if you place that camera on top of the boat canopy, or in some other location? Possibly combination of two, like add chest or head camera? In any case nicely done thanks for Sharin’ keep them coming

Thank you! Yeah, I’m trying to transition from that filming practice for salmon trolling as I do so much looking around it tough to get good stable footage. I’ve now got a camera mount on my boat like you said, and I’ve got a chest camera strap so it’s not as jumpy. Some of my more recent videos feature that approach. Thanks for taking the time to comment and provide this feedback!

Great video! do you think a fish finder is a necessity for this fishery? Are jigging and mooching effective? Thank you
@PNWBestLife
@PNWBestLife 2 года назад
Thanks! Honestly, if you know what you’re doing you may not need a fish finder… I would want Navionics or something to know where I am on the bar. It’s all about fishing near the bottom at the right depth. For mooching / jigging I would want a fish finder so I can see concentrations of bait / fish…

Awesome video, quick question what size leader length do you recommend that is best for black mouth fishing ?
@PNWBestLife
@PNWBestLife Год назад
Thanks! I do a 48” leader for those helmets. About 42” for spoons.

Good deal man. The weather doesn’t look too bad

Yeah it layer down considerably during all the footage I captured. A bit annoying that even though I hit record the bad weather footage didn’t make it

Thanks! Yeah man, gas is hella costly, need my crew to help out, lol. I’ve got some Sekiu time lined up and I’m gonna try to get out via Westport as much as I can before shrimping season

Great video, how long of leader do you use for anchovy? For coho, I would use around 30-36 inches
@PNWBestLife
@PNWBestLife 2 года назад
Thanks man! I use about 48-52”. Yeah coho like stuff whipping around faster than chinook, but honestly these blackmouth are so actively feeding they will take a lot of terminal gear. It’s more about location, hitting bottom and speed

Good job man, always great when crappy conditions pay off. You mentioned brain fog - did you catch Omicron? My whole family in Bremerton has it right now, and they are all vaxxed.

I’m frequently brain fogged for no hood reason, 😂 . Sorry about the fam, hope they’re not too sick.
