Pulling trees with a tractor is easy to do. I use my Mahindra 4540 to tackle this job. When pulling trees with a tractor make sure you always think about the safety aspect of what you are doing. Always be careful when using your homestead implements!

Great demonstration and good tips! I think pulling them out is probably the better way to do it, we pushed over a couple with our truck, which worked out fine, but we had to be very careful not to run over the root system when it popped out of the ground, or risk them getting caught up in the undercarriage. This way keeps the vehicle (truck or tractor) out of harms way, for the most part.

I usually pull trees from the rear of my tractor. That way I take advantage of the lugs on the tires. For little trees like those no problem backing up and pulling from the front. Love my Mahindra 6110

Honestly, I think that the smartest option would be to connect a shorter chain to the 2 hooks, and then the longer chain in the middle of that chain to the tree. My fear would be that putting a heavy load on 1 side of the bucket like this can end up bending something. Just my opinion. But, this does give me a good starting point.

I grunt just sitting down. That chainsaw holder looks dandy. Florida has a lot of sandy soil, unlike our Texas clay-ish soil. Those trees had no chance but the great tip on coloring the hook chains to keep from losing them. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Hank, thanks for this info. Here in Texas, my main opponent is mesquite. If you know mesquite, it is El Diablo of trees - noxious! If you do not get the main root trunk removed, and you just snap off the trunk and stems at or above the ground, it WILL resprout, only with a vengeance. If removing many trees on a lot of land, tugging them out with a tractor, unless you have the time and patience, is futile - most ranchers hire out excavator grubbers to do this work - expensive! But what I have learned from RU-vidrs is to push the tree (whatever kind) gently forward with the bucket, not until is snaps, but to get it to move in the dirt. Then wrap the chain as you did, twice around, so it is like a choker. Then, use an old truck or tractor wheel, placed up against the trunk, and lay the chain in the rim's groove. It is now a pulley, and the initial chain tugging will be more vertical. Very effective! Oh, and use the drawbar to attach to the tractor - the loader is not made for skidding and tugging, at least with mesquite, yaupon, and locust, which have nasty tap roots. Keep it up, Brother! Blessings!

Hank good job and nice video. A couple of points for reference, tractors are designed to pull (forward) lots of weight. You also gave better gearing ratios for traction and pulling in forward. You do have a few extra tricks with the FEL which you addressed that you will not not have with the 3ph. One thing you may wish to add to a chain would be a ‘slip’ hook which would slip on the chain to tighten on the truck. They are fairly common in logging operations

Hpw not to pull them out First wrap the chain so it chokes as you pull no need for double wraps. Also pulling with one hook on one side is bad use both hooks show the bucket isnt strained
@jasonhopkins4361
@jasonhopkins4361 3 года назад
Another way to hook the chain is to wrap once or twice, then run the hook end over the lead or long end , then hook it back to the hook end creating a loop around the chain . It will cinch down. Good videos!

Nice work. you will find that lifting a tree like a hurricane or tornado helps get it free. Simple old but strong tire rim to roll the chains up and toward the tractor make a huge difference.

as a boy we cleared several fields - cut the trees off at 3 or 4 ft use slip hook wrap twice and hook up higher gives you more leverage we easily did trees larger than ones you showed with a 21 HP "popping Johnny"
@divertim1
@divertim1 Год назад
Wet the ground around the tree and wrap the chain around the tree. Strap bucket against tree. Then lift it straight up out of the ground. You can get a 6 inch thick tree. Any bigger than that you will have to dig it out.

Great tractor tips and video like always and another tip i would give on deeper trees is to use the rear of the tractors 3 point the 2 lower arms and short chain it and use the 3poin lift it does give you much leverage

Why not pull from the rear of the tractor? You are less likely to damage your loader arms. If you are using your bucket for anything robust, put a chain between your hooks and hook another chain to that so the pressure is equal on both loader arms. Pulling only in one side might bend your loader.
@markmccoy1304

That Mighty Mahindra snatched them up. I think it could have pulled up all 3 at one time. Tomorrow I am taking up about 7 bushes in this red GA clay. I'm not sure I can do it. My loader lift is 1600#, 3 pt 1,800 #s but these Azaleas and boxwoods are about 4-5" round and the root system spreads wide. I'm gonna try using my rippers on the Boxblade, hook and pull. Thanks for the tips.😜 Mark.

Never, never, never use a a chain or cable to pull anything fixed. If it breaks, your dead, or worse! Simply dig a hole on one side, raise your bucket as high as it will and push on the side opposite the hole. If you need to pull, buy a woven nylon sling. Chain is not for stressing. Read a book if you don't believe me. Your teaching others to do something dangerous, and really not smart.
@HamiltonvilleFarm
@HamiltonvilleFarm 5 лет назад
Thanks for your opinion. I wouldn't say never, but I do agree with about woven nylon being a great choice. Understanding the rating of the chain and the object your pulling is important. Also another thing you can do is throw a heavy blanket over it to keep it from snapping back if it breaks. I do partially agree with you. Thanks for leaving the comment 👍🏻
