Even if this doesn't win the contest, it's won my heart. My only criticism is that it's more impressive than catchy. The best shanties are ones that someone can sing along with a chorus and feel part of even the first time hearing it. If this doesn't take 1st place, it'll be something with a simpler pace that's both easy to remember and sing along with.

I have a Voidborne race of Fennek foxes in stellaris with the Decorated Admiralty civic. Thats pretty much what i imagine them singing when my navy goes to war

i found this far too late. I've listened to it on repeat probably 60 times already. The song was so cryptic, it feels so old, like an ancient warning, and as much as it makes my brain scream for answers, im thankful there arent any in the description, it adds so much more to the music when all there is is a nagging feeling that there is more out there. Regardless, nothing resonates with me more than "Behold infinite Dissonance, the man behind your eyes." its an incredibly meaningful line. it speaks of the war within everyones soul, that the person we present ourself as could never be the person the are. when i was still going to collage, i wrote my psychology dissertation on how how humanity would never have peace, that the only possibility of us even coming close would be to discover an infinite amount of alien species, each of them ready for endless war, because that is all humanity has ever known, and the only way we will ever stop fighting one another is to have something else to fight, only then would we be unified. This song, to me, does an excellent job at encapsulating that philosophy.

I love the song and shanties are my favorite. I've listened to nearly every shanty known on spotify and I CAN'T find the original shanty that this matches. I've wracked my brain for over an hour trying to find it and I can't. How has no one posted anything about it for a three year old song?

I've never actually thought of the idea of space shanty's but it makes perfect sense though because sea shanty's were made to pass time as pirates were sailing for several months on end and so they could keep some part of their sanity, and in the future when space travel is invented I guess space shanty's would be needed for the same thing.

Got to hear it early and I'm glad to see it with visuals now. Great stuff as usual!

You know, this song works well in 40k too. Pull the Curtain Part The Veil could be a good description of what its like to enter the warp. "A color you have never seen peers back from nothingness, the void it will pull secrets that you wish that it would hide." Makes me think of what it is probably like to look into the Eye of Terror, or what its like for a psycher to look into the Warp. "We carry their war." In the grim darkness of the 41'st Millennium, there is only war. "For souls interred to keep the ship alive." The God Emperor is sacrificed hundreds of souls every day to keep his rotting bulk on the golden throne, and its those souls interred that keep the ships sailing true through the Warp.
