I Helped a firewood cutter gather firewood for his clients. And he had more tricks up his sleeves for making logs move the way he wanted . I learned a lot. Its amazing what you can do with a wire rope choker, 1 ton Flat Bed w/firewood box & V8. He told me about breaking stuff in his earlier years when he was in a hurry. In his end game years he only used enough power to do the job, and his equipment lasted longer. Break downs cost money & time which you never have enough of.

I love your Timberjack. How old is it? I drove one for about six months until I couldn't deal with the boss/owner of the company. One day I hauled a jag of logs out and couldn't shut the engine off. I put in high gear and pushed agains the log pile until it stalled. I ended up going to a GM dealership and got a new injector and fuel filter. I started to pull the bad injector#2 out and he kept telling me I didn't know what I was doing. After I got the injector installed and timed I moved on to the fule filter. It was the cleanest filter I've ever saw! Why? Because it didn't exist. He mumbled something about it wasn't getting fuel so he took out the filter and didn't replace it. When I was in the US Navy I was an EN 1 and I worked on 271s, 671s, and 6110s.

I live in SE Missouri, with several sawmills within several miles of me. I also have a black walnut tree that's leaning precariously towards my garage. I had an arborist top it, trying to save it, but the lean continues to worsen. I want it felled and to sell it. How should I approach these sawmills in order to sell that timber, or should I try someone else?
@Good.Fellers
@Good.Fellers 4 месяца назад
If it’s tall and straight and over 20” inches diameter you may want to call a saw mill. But from what you described I think it’s a trees service job.

Pallet lumber? Railroad ties? Dry rot can be frustrating for sure.
@Good.Fellers
@Good.Fellers 11 месяцев назад
Pallet logs depend on our location from mill. Most of the time trucking costs out weigh the pallet log price. I know guys that chase it but at the end of the day you make more sticking to high grade logs. Also you can pay the landowner more if you maximize your valuable time on a job as opposed to fighting for scraps. Now if I’m in Michigan and there’s 100 1000 foot cottonwoods in about 4 acres then I’ll slam em down. Trucking ultra cheap there and we have good markets for them.
