Seeing this done with extremely long hair... I have confidence now
@paulate.5508

♥ COMPLETE ENGLISH TRANSLATION ♥ My dears, today I will show you how to do a „pullthroughbraid“ on my rather long hair. Of course, the technique also works with shorter hair as well. For this braid, you will need A LOT of hairties. Normally, they use those silicone-ones but I do not like them because they are a little bit difficult to put in and out. That’s why I buyed those small hairties made out of fabric, you normally get them in each grocery store. Not only I do not like the silicone-ones, they are also too small to get all of my hair in this particular braid. I will show you at the end how many of those hairties I actually used. Then we will start with the preparation. I will do this braid in a French-version, but of course you can also start a normal one starting at the neck. Then just start watching how it works as soon as I finished the French-part (4:30). At first, we will do some small braids on the head. Therefore I take some hair at the top part of my head and secure them with an elastic. I lay it over my face to the front to move it out of the way and do exactly the same right below. Can you already guess how we will continue? Exactly, we will also move this one out of the way by putting it to the front and section of the next part below. Try to calculate the amount of hair to end up with five to seven of those parts. Important: The first two should be of the same thickness and the following ones should also have the same thickness. I always start with two thicker sections at the beginning so that the braid does not start too small and then the other sections smaller, to avoid getting the braid being too thick too fast. Of course, you could also follow the normal French-pattern and part the hair for each “row” while you are braiding but especially for my long hair, I find it easier to have all my hair prepared and ready to start before. The last sections should sit high, rather close to the second-last section, that will make it look more beautiful in the neck later. Well, and after approximately five minutes I finally have all those little ponytails on my head. Adjust the highest section a little bit or even do it again if needed. Now we are ready to start the actual braid! The principle is really easy and always the same. I part the highest section in two parts of the same size and move them around the one below [means on the right and the left side] and in order that this lower braid is not in our way, we move it between the two parts to the front and lay it over the forhead. Now I join the two parts back together, add in the next ponytail and secure all those parts with an elastic. Clear until now? Do not forget to add in the next ponytail, otherwise you won’t get a French-braid. While you are pulling the hair through the elastic, make sure that you do not add in hair from other parts, this especially happens to me when I use silicone hairties, that’s why I don’t like them. Then I pick the strand from the front and repeat those steps with it. Part it, move it around the ponytail below, this one gets out of the way by putting it to the front and join them together under the ponytail [the one that you put over the face]. Sometimes, my extralengh can be pretty impractical, but in this case it’s useful because they really stay away if I out them over my shoulders for example. So, join the two halves, add in the next ponytail and again secure everything with a hairtie. This pattern will stay the same until all of the small ponytails are added in. I do not go all the way down at once, in between I go back and pull a little bit on the sides of the braid to make it look thicker. That’s the great part of pullthroughbraid, you can almost pull them as much as you want and hence make them look a lot bigger. You can really cheat yourself a lot of volume here! The pulling works a lot better if you don’t do it at the very end but rather every third or fourth stich. So now, when I created three of those “bubbles” I grab a mirror and start pulling the sides apart. You do not really need a mirror but I like to check that I really did both sides the same thickness and also every “bubble” of the braid. As you can see, my braid is already quite big but now - WHOOP - it’s twice as big! Normally, those “pancaked” braids get a little bit looser and I do not like that. But this one holds perfectly due to the amount of hairties used! Now I keep repeating the pattern from before, I part the upper ponytail in half, move it around, join the two halves, add the section below and secure with an elastic. We repeat that until we added in all of the small sections, then the pattern gets a little bit easier. _Everybody who does not want to do the French-part starts now_ Tie an elastic in the neck as a low ponytail and part it into two pieces [horizontally]. Part the upper section in two parts again [vertically], move it around the section below, join it back together and tie it off with an elastic. That’s exactly what I do right now. I have TWO ponytails, I always bisect the upper one, move it around the lower one and back together. As you can see, I move the other section out of the way, over my shoulder for example, so they do not get mixed. But be careful that your braid does not start twisting! Two new bubbles done, pull on the edges again because due to the braiding, the upper part of the braid could have tightened itself again. That’s why I pull on those as well. This step is of course optional, you do not have to make the braid bigger if you do not want to, it just works so perfectly here. The whole process continues like this for some more rounds, including the pulling apart. When I can’t go further down with my hands I take the braid to the front and over my shoulder. For this video, the braiding took quite a long time but with practice or by leaving out the French part, it’s a lot faster and you can also do it in the morning before going to work. Now I will show you how to continue on the other side of the braid since you now see it from the upside. In my opinion, that makes it easier. Now I part the LOWER ponytail in half and move it to the FRONT around the upper one. As you see, you can “park” the other strand on your shoulder again. When you joined the two parts you secure them while the other strand just hangs in the back meanwhile. Actually, you would normally do a pullthroughbraid by tying off a section and pull the other one with your fingers or with a topsy tail through it. With my length, this would end in a total chaos that’s why I prefer this technique. Aditionally, you can pull the hairtie up a little bit afterwars to hold the gaps between the elastics as small as possible. As already done on the head, keep pulling the edges apart every few rounds if you want. The elastics always stay a little bit visible, they never completely vanish in this braid. Clear elastics would be helpful but just ones that match your haircolour also work. I actually might consider the bottom side more beautiful because it looks like many little hearts BUT here, you see the hairties even more than on the other side. Continue this pattern now as long as you want, in case of doubt until the end of your hair. Naturally, every braid gets thinner in the end. This effect can be balanced by the side-pulling if you do not make it too intensively at the beginning but rather more at the end then it almost looks like the same thickness everywhere. The end you just tie off with an elastic. Curls have a great effect on the look of the ends, with curls you do not really need a hairtie. A last time pulling the edges and that’s how the finished braid looks!! As mentioned before, this braid has a great stability while not being difficult - you do not even need to know how to braid! And that’s the amount of elastics that I didn’t use! Plenty of hairties in my braid, huh? Here again the whole braid that has ANOTHER great characteristic: It shows a lot of length! A normal braid looks always a lot shorter than this one. At the end, she proves that even though she wore it the whole day and even went swimming with it, you can remove the elastics easily. If your hair structure is not as straight as hers, she recommends to be more careful with pulling the elastics out. She also has a tutorial for a three strand pullthrough [looks supercool, go and check it out!!].

Your hair is stunning. Mine is quite a bit shorter than yours, but long and thick, I hate how a normal braid shortens it so much, so will have to give this style a go!

I don't speak German, but I imagine that first bit went something along the lines of "you're going to need about 200 hair ties, so have fun tracking those down in your house and car or run to the store to buy a few new packs." 😂 Really an excellent video though, just like all the other ones that I've seen of yours. ❤️
