This is the best daily trainer ever (IMO). Most comfortable, responsive, easy on the legs for the longer miles, and that Puma grip is good enough to even take it on the trails as well.
@@Sen-ki- its by far a more superior shoe! You cant compare the quality difference between them! They cant even compare in my opinion! Buy the puma and you will see…
After so many rave reviews on RU-vid, I took upon my wife’s kind offer to gift me a pair-since she herself was buying a pair for herself. Couldn’t have been prouder of my decision to accept. What a shoe! Completely blew me away and really matched the reviews! Color, performance, feel, grip, upper, etc. it’s snug on my left foot (it’s a tad wide), but not to the point of bothersome. I’m not a marathon runner, so it’s adequate for my below 20k distances.
I somehow managed to get my Puma Deviate Nitro 2 for $96 back in December. Maybe Puma was having some holiday sale at that point. I agree that $160 is a bit much and when I saw the price drop, I went for it. I'm glad I did since it has been my favorite shoe so far this year. That Puma grip is hard to beat. I'm glad you recommended this over the Adidas Boston 11 since I was kind of looking at that shoe and this one.
got mine on 43% discount. to me, deviate 2 > novablast 3. my problem with novablast 3 is the colorway is terrible 😅 with that discount, deviate 2 is 👑 IMO
This is currently my favourite shoe to train in and I love picking up the pace which is easily achieved in this shoe without sacrificing comfort. The only other shoe that I love to train in that’s similar for me is the Saucony Endorphin Speed. I am so impressed by the ND2 you are spot on with this review!
I'm a huge fan of this shoe for workouts. It's a perfect balance for me, it's comfortable enough for warm up/cool down miles, responsive enough for faster efforts, and durable enough with the puma grip to get tons of miles out of it.
@@mibsammalik1614 It's not as responsive as a true super shoe, but it's still great. I think for training runs I really don't mind a little heavier shoe that will last a long time. The thing I love most about the Deviate Nitro 2 is it's really a jack of all trades.
I don't typically care about the upper of a shoe, but this is an exception. By far, the most comfortable upper I've ever worn. Midsole is comfortable, but also responsive. And Pumagrip is incredible. At 200 miles, I choose this shoe for a wide range of runs, especially because any day that involves wet roads, this is by far the best shoe I have. I've raced a half marathon in the rain in this shoe and got the victory! Then I chose this one for a 5k race that involved road, grass, and caliche gravel, and the shoe went to 2 for 2 in races with another victory. For me, this shoe's versatility makes it truly exceptional for folks who might have 3-5 shoes in the rotation.
I love this shoe. Purchased this for £105 in the UK. I used this for races and my speed/tempo sessions. Compliments well with my Velocity 2. I was an avid Boston fan, until they totally changed it from v10. So Puma pretty much rescued me.
So are you using same size with Velocity 2? Because I went size down from my normal size while purchasing Velocity 2. If it is narrow, Maybe I have to order size up
The Deviate Nitro 2 is my first plated shoe. Definitely worth it at 30% off MRSP during a recent holiday sale in Singapore. I had been resisting carbon-plated shoes because I figured I should just do old-school until I become a seasoned runner (coming up on my one-year runniversary), but I liked the idea of the composite plate. It may be my imagination, but compared to Peg 39s, this shoe really seems to deliver in the energy-return category! I've done a bit of speed work with it and mainly tempo runs. Running purely on feel, I'm getting 5:15 minutes/km in these vs. around 5:30/km in the Pegs at the same RPE. Placebo effect? Maybe, but I'm enjoying the speed--wherever it comes from. I went up half a size due to length rather than width issues. 9 1/2 is slightly roomy in the toe box but 9 would have left very little room at the front.
Not placebo dear friend, i totally agree with you. Enjoyable, great cushion and energy return without it feeling strange or over-bouncy. You become faster with the same effort and also less tired. Cheers from Greece.
Welcome to the "teched-up" runing world my friend. It's definitely not placebo, you're just late into the party. I used to be all about max cushion shoes for easy long runs until some of it was too damn soft and "cushiony" that I started to develop foot pain at the bottom of my feet. One shoe that didn't cause that to me was my cloudmonster and it was the only shoe that had the speedboard in there and being slightly more firm and rigid than others. So I made the leap of faith, picked endorphin speed 3 and it totally turned my perception of runing shoe world upside down. These days most brands are offering that formular since the ES3 is so damn successful and popular. Racing foam+daily foam+slightly more flexible/less rigid plate/rods and more durable/comfortable upper. It's a package that packs the fun of super shoes ,allow the option to pick the pace, but is still nice enough to run for easy day and recovery days. The real challenge in these shoes for me was to constantly remind myself to not go hard on it. Keep telling myself to slow down and maintain the pace because they're that much fun you unintentionally up the pace before you know it. That's ok for a work out but not on easy days.
If you can only choose one shoe to do it all, this Puma is it. Even some buffed out light trails. Love it! Just fix that heel rubbing for version 3 Puma!
After 55kms on the Deviate Nitro 2, the word that best describes this shoe is versatility. It accepts any type of workout (or race) you want to do on it. It's not as light as the Hoka Rincon 3 or New Balance Beacon 3 (other super versatiles shoes), but it's sturdier and has a better grip.
Love your channel. I have gone back almost a year and watch most of your videos. Thanks. Regarding Puma D Nitro 2. I ordered a pair and got the Wide at a discount. Fits well and so far loving it. I did some research and the website says the wide is a completely different shoe. It has all Nitro Elite foam verse the blend of Nitro and Elite. Also it says it is a fiber composite verse a true carbon fiber plate. Not sure if it is true. But that is how they are listed.
Just picked this up 2 days ago at a very good sale price in my country and had an enjoyable run with it yesterday. Yeah good to see this review here by kofuzi himself.
US 9.5 here and yes, it's really snug for me as well. And I don't know if it's that, the stiffness of the plate, or a combination of both, but I find it to be really harsh on my forefoot/toes. Dua/Triathletes who compete in local races passing through forest trails and what have you should definitely give Puma (in general) a look; their traction is second to none.
DN 2 is my current fav shoe. I use it for tempo, fartlek, interval & long run on weekend. 100++ km and still fresh on feet like a brand new one. Can't wait to try DN Elite 2.
@@dennykristianto8123 I use DN 2 for long run ( >15 km ) at weekend & on interval/tempo on thursday. So far so good. Outsole grip still great & the foam is still as bouncy as new.
Glad to see your review of the Deviate Nitro 2. It's my favorite all-round running shoe - a jack-of-all-trades that can do almost everything very well. Due to its awesome outsole, I also like it for going on smooth mild trails. It can do speed workouts, daily runs, and easy long runs and transition between them smoothly. It doesn't do any one thing *extremely* well like, say, a Prime X Strung for long tempo runs or Vaporfly 2/3 and the Takumi Sen 8/9 for all-out speed workouts and races or the More v4 and Nimbus 25 for easy/recovery, but it does everything well enough. As you say, hard to categorize. I went half-size up and that worked out well but then got a second pair in EE size and that worked out even better. To me, the DN2 is a great workhorse shoe. It's not the most exciting shoe and the ride feels a bit muted, but it's comfortable and chugs along nicely when you just want to put in some quality miles.
Could you elaborate on what you mean by " It's not the most exciting shoe and the ride feels a bit muted". Which other shoe you recommend as an exciting shoe?
@@thurules For excitement, speed, and fun factor, I prefer the Adidas Adizero shoes with Lightstrike Pro midsole - Prime X Strung 1/2, Adios Pro 3, Takumi Sen 8/9, and Boston 12. They just have more of the "wow" factor in terms of propulsion, responsiveness, energy return, and fast turnover. The New Balance FuelCell shoes like the SC Elite v4/3 , SC Trainer v2/1 and the Rebel v4/3 are also very bouncy and fun. They are noticeably softer (except for SC Elite v4) and not as responsive as the Adizero shoes IMO, but they are more comfortable. The Puma shoes have that "old school" feel and ride. They are not as assistive as the Adizero or the high-performance FuelCell shoes but are more robust with a workhorse type of reliable quality to them. To use a general car analogy, the Adizero shoes (and Nike Alphafly 3 and Vaporlfy 3/2) are like race sports cars - exciting but not always very comfortable. The NB shoes are like high performance sedans - plush with a focus on comfort. Puma shoes are like high performance trucks - solid, reliable, durable, super grippy for all types of terrains and weather conditions, and has a chugging type of ride than bouncing you forward. I love them all for experiencing different feel and rides at various paces and for various distances. Adidas, NB, and Puma are my three favorite brands with Nike's AF3 and VF3 added for top tier racing shoes. ASICS, Saucony, and Hoka make some nice shoes as well, but I just didn't like them as much as the Adidas, NB, and Puma shoes. Hope this helps!
I really love this she and during the winter when i knew it was a bit slushy etc outside i could run in it. I even ran in 2 inches of snow in this and had no slippage. I wish they would bring the goretx version over from europe/asia
I love this shoe...the ultimate daily trainer. It can really handle all types of distances and speeds (excluding competitive racing speeds). IMO. this shoe and the Saucony Endo Speed 3 trade blows in the most-versatile-shoe matchup. I also agree with you on the slightly snug toe box, I must wear thinner socks else it gets somewhat uncomfortable after a long-ish run when my forefoot/toes swell.
Was pleasantly surprised by this shoe, great grip in the wet, a quite lively midsole and the composite plate not too aggressive with the right amount of flexion ❤
I love mine for long runs at pace, towards the end of a training block. They feel both cushy on long downhills and fast on the flat. Then I race in the Deviate Elites 👍
I tried several brands of running shoes but always had plantar injuries repeatedly, and was able to recover from the plantar and run comfortably until now with Puma DN2
Having wide feet myself, I found the regular version way too tight. Going with the wide version solved that problem for me though. So if you can find it, go with the wide version instead going up in size.
@@agingrich The length didn't feel any different to me. between the Normandy the wide versions. So if a 13 fits you length wise. 13 wide shouldn't be too big.
I got to demo the Deviate Nitro 2 at the Puma shakeout run before the Boston Marathon. I really like it, but it was too narrow. Fortunately, there is a wide version available online, so I ordered that with the 20% discount offer from the shakeout run. It fits perfectly now. It’s a very versatile shoe that does remind me of the Boston 9.
a great shoe, it's a bit awkward at first, but the shoes always focus on the heart After running for a week, the pair got used to the shoes, really like it and beautiful
I just picked up a pair for the Bayshore half marathon next weekend! I got the royal sapphire color way (very limited color options at the Fleet Feet I work at) but I absolutely love the look of yours. I'm usually an 8.5 in every shoe but I sized up to a 9 for these, they definitely run small
Would like to see more sales in USA ; I have found too many awesome models on sale from other brands to try these at full price . Thanks for critiquing the 160 price as the new standard for good daily trainers .
70% carbon plate. The upper doesn't have a lot of volume, with a snug fit, but that is Puma, which is pretty standard for a European shoe. I use it as a daily trainer with some speed sessions. I would pair this with the Puma velocity Nitro. Also, Puma offers great discounts, so you should easily get the shoe with at least 20% discount.
I had the Deviate 2, liked the upper, but the midsole just felt sooo flat and too stiff for me - I found it very confusing to run in, it felt like I couldn't roll off the toes at all. I also found that cutout in the midsole was a vacuum for stones. I ended up selling it and replaced it with the Hyperion max which I'm really enjoying. Everyone responds differently to shoes. In AU/NZ the puma is also a chunk more expensive than the Brooks too, and Brooks are often on sale but Pumas never are.
ok so I posted that 9 months ago, the puma are always on sale now 😂. I really like the roll off the toes on the Mach 5 and the Novablast 4 is my go to shoe at the moment@@thurules
I bought mine back in Jan and has been my go to daily shoe. Too bad my feet grew and my TTS of US9 is no longer comfy (i have high in-step) and have to go half size up already. But overall i love this shoe!!
Sitting here drinking coffee ☕ from my Kofuzi mug 😁...haven't ran in a pair of Pumas since 95. Wasn't impressed then. That being said looking forward to watching this...on we go...
Only £70 in UK now on sale. I thought the £100 I paid a few months ago was a good buy - I really like them - comfort, responsiveness, stability, and quite protective of legs. Fairly fast although not an all out racer by any means. Definitely more sprightly than the velocity 2s.
@@morlo66 A couple of places, but some have very limited sizes - up and running had 13s only, sports direct had many sizes, though the sizes (and colour) tell me they may be women's - if there is a difference! (outlet) - they also have the black ones (usually cheaper) for £82.50 in many mens sizes, but I think any price under £100 is good for these tbh - I really like them.
🎉Personally, for a daily trainer, i would prefer a non-plated shoe just to get some variety for the foot. If i were to get a shoe with a plate, I would just get a racing shoe since they last so much longer nowadays anyway.
including a plate in a non-racing shoe is a double edged sword. putting a plate in a shoe can attract some customers while deterring others. but I generally think of plates in non-racing shoes as stability elements. like a Mizuno wave plate or an Adidas LEP system.
My combo is Deviate for daily training and workouts, Triumph 20 for really easy and long runs, Saucony Endorphin Pro 3 for racing. What do u think? Ah, my usual size is 11 (Saucony, Hoka, Adidas...) but 10,5 in this shoes is perfect for me.
How i wish i saw this video before buying my pair. all good till about the half marathon and the lower volume in the forefoot really gives my toes a pounding
Why not compare it to the Endorphin Speed? Racing foam for racing foam, plated (semi), uptempo daily trainer (sorry saucony I know you hate that), and speed shoe. For the exact same price
Thanks for the video. I'm looking for some advice. I've been running on the cumulus 24 as my daily trainer. I use that for distances from 10k to 15k, usually at easyto medium paces. I'm looking for a 2nd pair in my rotation with a bit more responsive ride as a daily trainer. Am heavily contemplating the deviate nitro 2. Went to test it out and it feels good but one concern that I had was that I felt my feet tilting a little inward as i land as compared to the usual flat landing that i feel with my cumulus 24. Is that feeling normal for this shoe and is it okay? A 2nd alternative im looking at is the forever run nitro.
Kofuzi, my question is. Do you prefer adidas adizero sl for a long run or puma deviate nitro 2?? Because. I really found that adidas adizero SL is comfortable and felt good for speed. But puma is comfy too and it has the balance and speed too in there. Thank you. Because adidas is on sale in Bali now. For $96 as you mentioned for that colorful one.
I currently have the Puma Deviate Nitro 2 as a workout and tempo shoe. I am pairing it with Nimbus 25 for my recovery and easy run. Would you recommend Puma Deviate Nitro 2 for a full marathon? Hope to hear from you.
I know that it’s not in the same category, but do you have any opinion on how the Puma Deviate Nitro 2 compares with the Asics Superblast in terms of speed and comfort? I need a shoe for my faster workouts but I won’t need it for anything too hardcore. I’m still a beginner, but I’d want to get something a tad faster than my Asics Novablast 4, for the 5k speed workouts and I found the Superblast and Deviate Nitro 2 at a discount. Thanks 😊
how does this shoe compare with novablast 3. I have novablast 3 and have run about 500km in it. looking for another upgrade. but not sure how to use this puma shoe.
They overlap quite a bit in terms of use case. The novablast is geared a bit more towards daily training where the Devaite 2 is more capable of full workouts
I’ve loved mine. Got my 5k pb in them in feb (19:56). Ran a marathon in them recently and the last hour my feet hurt a bit. Do you think these are a marathon shoe?
Im not going to use them for running , but for keep fit classes , what do you recommend the one you are reviewing on the video or the elite deviate elite. Ty
I am currently on my 3rd pair of Novablasts and this review got my attention as a shoe that would perhaps have the same kind of exciting ride. Ko, how would you say they compare to each other?
I'm thinking of replacing my Pegasus 39s with Novablasts, expecting somewhat more fun slow runs. And I'd continue to use Deviate Nitro 2 for tempo/speed. Or do you not recommend Novablast for slow runs?
@@reeltaiwan The Novablast can handle nearly anything you toss at it. I have done everything from long slow group runs with friends, all the way up to a marathon in them last fall. I do a lot of my speedwork in Endorphin Speed 2's, and usually take the Nova out for recovery and daily training. You will probably appreciate the added cushioning the Novablast provides over the Peg for slow runs, but the Nova will make it a lot easier to end up running splits faster than you had anticipated. Its a fun shoe, and being that its still at the pre-inflation price tag, I would definitely recommend grabbing a pair.
I have already purchased a pair of ON Cloudmonsters, but I kind of bought them before doing any research, as of today (5/20/23) and for someone who has just gotten into running, what shoes would you recommend? Are the Novablast 3's still your favorite all around shoe (saw you mention this in an interview)?
I'd go with the nitro elite 2. there were times during the fartlek where I felt like the nitro 2 was encouraging me to land a bit more on the heel and slow down. I don't get that with the nitro elite 2
Puma rep said the upcoming Magnify Nitro 2 has a wider toe box due to the more anatomical last, just FYI. What shoes would you recommend for recovery runs and distances of 5-8 miles, tops? Ideally something cushioned but bouncy. FWIW, I found the Glycerin 20 cushioned but dull; felt like a memory foam mattress.
I have a foot length of 26.3 cm. Can you tell me if this model 9 US (27 cm) is suitable or order 9.5 US (27.5cm)? For the rest of the sneakers I have Brooks ghost- 9 US, Asics novablast 2- 9 US, Asics cumulus 23 Gore-tex- 9.5 US. The main purpose is a half marathon and tempo workouts.
