We were big fans of Puma's grand entry back into the running scene a year ago (I mean, who can deny the greatness of a Molly Seidel bronze), but we were a little skeptical to see if they could improve on it. Welp, they did. Thomas and Robbe review the Puma Velocity Nitro 2, a great update to last year’s go-to daily trainer, featuring a new upper and dual-density midsole construction. Note that all release dates for this shoe or any shoe are tentative, and as of publication, the Velocity Nitro 2 has been pushed back to March 15 release.

In case anyone's been asleep for the last year, note that any release dates mentioned in the video are tentative at best. At the time of this publication, the projected release date is 3/15 for the Velocity Nitro 2.

Really liked the V1, my “pleasant surprise shoe” of 2021. Pumagrip is amazing, it’s kinda surprising it’s not co-branded with a tire company. Pirelli x Puma has a ring to it.

These look amazing and at 120 dollars damm glad I waited and opted out in the first gen. It really reminds me of a Pegasus but with the nitrogen/EVA set up definitely out classes the react foam.

Love both the Deviate and Liberate. Puma has brought shoes to market that are giving the big boys a black eye, IMO.

Both main colours in the video are decent looking. The outsole is immense. I love the liberates for 400 repeats on the grass track near me and footing is never an issue, no slip at all. Will have to try this version as a Pegasus replacement when it comes out. Also, can’t wait for their two insane looking race shoes if they are ever available in more than one pair per country.

I found the V1 ´s upper was excellent. I did not find it "cheap". Feels more premium to be than litterally all NB shoes I've tried.

The length of the shoe really limits it when going downhill and even when picking up the pace. The only thing you can do to mitigate this is to tighten the laces but if you tighten it way too much it gets really uncomfortable.

Pumas distribution is pretty bad for its running shoes. I can find their basketball shoes everywhere, but they look to be absent in most running stores (Canada)

Hi, There’s one important thing in my opinion that’s missing from most reviews. I am a big Asics fan, Puma is growing on me due to nitro foam. But Sole Review made a shoe freezing test a while ago it was a Nike React shoe and an Adidas with Boost. Sub 0 Celsius the React was like a brick!!! The Boost withstanded even more that -5 Celsius with same softness. This is why i use Boost in winter, despite me being an Asics fan. So me, personally, would like to know from reviewers, if a shoe midsole behaves well in terms of cushioning in freezing weather. Imagine you buy a shoe for example with React, you like it a lot, and in the cold it is un-useable. It’s like you bought two different shoes in one. It is very dissapointing. Could we see all brands foams behaviour in really cold temperatures please? Thanks Paul,

For me, the sizing issue is overblown. I wear 10 in Adidas, Nike, UA, Saucony, Vans….and the 10 was the right choice in the Puma VN1. I tried the 9.5 and my big toe was just too close and crampy feeling to the front. True, there’s maybe a pinky finger width at the tip, but you don’t feel it as being loose….it’s like an illusion or an imaginary overhang above the underlying rubber toe cap. I’d pick the True-to-Size every time for me.

I typically wear a size 9. I got a 8.5 which was too small and the 9 runs too long like you guys said. So there is something very wrong with their sizing.

Yo, i hate that. New Balance had the same problem with some of there models. And i just bought a pair of Puma Nitro 2. And after buying i see reviews that said it runs narrow in the toe box and people said they need to buy 1/2 bigger. Ans now this model these guys said to get a 1/2 size smaller. So im pisst AF. Because Asics, they NEVER have size problems like this. Im done buying any brand but Asics now , just to avoid these noobs who make sizes all wrong. This is ridiculous. Its just my luck though. I have the worst luck ever. Like you remember Brad Pitt in Bullet Train movie? Well im the real life dude who has bad luck like that. Because i vowed to never buy New Balance shoes after all the problems with sizing. And then i got caught up because i loved the looks of the Nitro 2. And now this brand has size problems like NB. So FML bro. So, just life hack yall. Just buy Asics and you cant go wrong, there size is uniformed and universal. ✌️

With the Puma Nitros, the normal shoe size is actually enough. They run big. With Adidas, Asics and other brands, it is correct to buy half a size larger. Only with Puma this is not necessary. For me personally and I hear it again and again from the running community. I'm looking forward to the V2. I also find the V1 very pleasant. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪

in a running event you were last year, a puma representative said they fixed the sizing and it is true to size lengthwise. disappointed that it's not. getting half size smaller makes it too narrow

How is the Velocity Nitro 2 compare to Eternity Nitro when it comes to cushioning of the foot? Which one is better? The VN2 midsole is the opposite of eternity, nitro top and eva bottom vs nitro bottom and runguide top. It feels like eternity with nitro at the bottom is the winner. Curious and love to get you guys expert view.

I own both, the Eternity and the VN2, and imo the Eternity is also great, but it feels a bit mushy compared to the dual density midsole in the VN2! That combo in the VN2 just works better, especially when picking up the pace. For really easy/recovery runs though, the Eternity is awesome, too!

First version was great. Comfortable, versatile, with the superb Puma grip. But that shoe was too long, and I can’t understand why Puma hasn’t fixed that for v2.

I experienced that too. 11 rebel v2 fitted perfectly but 11 velocity nitro v1 was too long

I’ve had it for couple HMs and this is really my favorite shoe ever. If you tried Pegasus, then this is a lighter, waaayyy more responsive shoe. It really is impossible to beat, specially at the price. I just clocked 500miles on the v1, I’ll be picking the v2.

Looks like an outright Pegasus replacement. And given the WRONG direction the Peg has taken with w/ the bloated & extremely unbreathable Peg 38, Puma is in a good position w/ this shoe. They just need WAY more marketing & exposure to make a dent in the wider population, which granted is a pretty big ask given your average runner is not watching or reading shoe reviews.

bought a pair of these and honestly they're OK. not great. way too much padding at the heel end and the material is slippy, thats probably good for preventing blisters but whenever im running up hill i feel like they're sliding around too much and thats with a perfect shoe size and tight lacing. even though i got them 30% off i still dont think they're worth the money, at 50% off i'd be happy-ish but honestly they feel kinda cheap. wish i went with a lighter more minimalist shoe, these are too bulky.

V1 had a great upper but I found the ride too firm especially at slower speeds but I have high arches so I feel the shock more than most. Novablast V1 for me.

The python is 'reticulated' and relates to its pattern, nothing to do with squeezing the life out of small rodents... That tongue is unfortunately neither articulated, nor reticulated.
