Pump It uses samples from Dick Dale's Misirlou, which literally translates to Egyptian Girl, and Dale's version is already a sped-up instrumental cover of a Greek version of Misirlou from the 1920's (but apparently the real Misirlou song is a few years older than that and was composed in the Ottoman Empire but never recorded), and this Greek version of the song is one of the 2 most used songs as stereotypical representations of Egypt in western media, the other being Streets of Cairo.

@@MiddleAgesMusic The song is much older even than that version. It is a traditional song from the middle east, dating back to the Ottoman Empire, at least to the 1920s. You can find the first known recording of it from 1927 right here on RU-vid. Oh, and it has lyrics - in Greek.

The original name of this song is Misirlou. which is Greekified Turkish for Egyptian (Mısırlı). It just means Egyptian, not Egyptian girl. It's not Mısırlı kız. Song dates back to Ottoman Greece and Egypt
