During their sold-out debut Melbourne Recital Centre performance, Punch Brothers moved beyond the stage mic to take full advantage of Elisabeth Murdoch Hall’s superb acoustics. Now the critically-acclaimed group returns with their brilliant musicianship and a brand new album The Phosphorescent Blues.
Punch Brothers’ virtuosity transforms an amalgam of musical styles into a genre all unto itself. Chris Thile (mandolin), Chris Eldridge (guitar), Paul Kowert (bass), Noam Pikelny (banjo) and Gabe Witcher (violin) swing from an evocative full-band arrangement of ‘Passepied’ from Claude Debussy’s Suite Bergamasque into tunes reminiscent of old America in the Appalachians all with a healthy dose of bluegrass joy.
Join us to relive the stunning performance of Flippen from their August 2016 concert.
Dynamic, thrilling, daring and freewheeling, Punch Brothers pack a punch!
Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre.

Chris is as far as I know the only one who can play mandolin like that.Superb generational talent.
@feelinghealingfrequences7179
tristan scrogins and jordan thice and dozens of other amateurs can replicate this mando picking u might find looking up mandolin competition

No one is coming up with the stuff Chris does. Obviously his technique is amazing, but his innovation and feel is what got him the MacArthur genius grant and not the dozens of other amateurs

Fabulous, as always! Frankly, I could do with less of a four minute dulcimer solo and more of all five marvelous musicians all together. That bass, that bango, that fiddle, that guitar!

1:44 fiddle starts and ruins the melody with strange harmony

You better change your name because those harmonies were completely diatonic. They weren’t strange at all.
