Oh yeah I noticed that a couple of minutes after the video was published. Gonna make sure I avoid that mistake for Ttitle Defense haha (keeping the comment pinned so everyone notices this mistake and hopefully will reduce more of these comments)
14:51 I like as sandman walks in, doc gets concerned for mac. But as he sees mac punch his fists ready for a fight, he believes mac can take him. Doc is the true coach.
Fun fact about aran ryan The 7 star punches is a reference to luck and how Irish are known around luck and how you have 7 stamina and he gets up on seven and you can hit him 7 times when he's stunned
All of the 7's (international or not) -7 star punches ends the fight -One of his Ttitle Defense refills is 77% health upon recover -7 punches for every Stun -He'll change his retaliation attack every 7 punches you throw once you get to Phase 2 in Title Defense -Always gets up on 7 -Height adds up to 7 -Stamina is at 7 -First two digits of weight add up to 7 -Contender HP is 107 while TD is 117
Don't mind me, just adding my own timestamps: Glass Joe: 0:26 Von Kaiser: 1:30 Disco Kid: 2:23 King Hippo: 3:26 Piston Hondo: 4:44 Bear Hugger: 5:57 Great Tiger: 7:13 Don Flamenco: 7:40 Aran Ryan: 9:06 Soda Popinski: 11:11 Bald Bull: 11:53 Super Macho Man: 13:15 Mr. Sandman: 14:45
Thank you for this video! I've been looking for something like this for ages. There seems to be a huge gap in online knowledge between "basic controls" and "exact inputs to manipulate a good speedrun".
I I remember correctly, when Wii Punch-Out!! was being run at SGDQ a couple years ago, (which was Zallard1 blindfolded) he got an instant KO on Disco Kid in the contender fight; the commentators also pointed out that is was the hardest one in the game to land and required a certain number of taunts. I can’t remember off the top of my head though so I’ll need to rewatch the run
@@nolan414_ i always thought Disco could get KO'd by using a 3 star punch into his taunt. Cause i think it would function the same as his flurry in TD, guess i thought of somethin else
It‘s also something in the original game, however you can instant ko a couple fighters without a star punch, like piston honda(o?) or bald bull by countering their honda rush and bull charge
I’d like to point out that piston hondo’s record is 27-1 before fighting Mac, statistically speaking he had the best record in the minor circuit and arguably a better record than Aaron Ryan yet is still the last ranked boxer in the major circuit Thank you WVBA very cool
3:55 "OW, hey you hit me before my squashing attack! Now if you excuse me, i will do the exact same thing and expect diferent results, that you dont hit me again wich made my crown fall off and knocked me into the ground"
I have one little piece of advice for you. Actually two. 1. Glass Joe has 2 instant knockdowns and 1 instant knockout, not 1 instant knockdown and 2 instant knockouts. 2. For the second instant knockdown, you cannot get hit for this trick to work.
1.) Wasn't really sure how to go about that one when uploading the video tbh. But yeah I guess it would make more sense for it to be an IKD because I completely forgot that if you take him into R2 it will just knock him down but he'll get back up. 2.) I think I remember having that in my notes somewhere but lost it due to me being dumb. And I probably just forgot about it shortly afterward. :/ (EDIT: yeah I found it in my notes but forgot to include sorry lol) But yeah thanks for posting this comment. I would pin this one to but I already have another one pinned :P
Wait do you mean his TD fight where he winks because that’s not the dreamland express. The dream land express he says dreamland then throws 3 uppers cuts
@@Thesandman1254I believe so. In td there is a mode called berserk mode, where sandman will repeatedly throw wink uppercuts at you, and if you dodge them, he won’t give you any time to punch him back. This only happens when you knock him down twice in one round I think. After three waves of uppercuts, he gets tired and allows you to punch him in the face and gut freely, giving stars every few punches. I hope this helped if you decided to read it all lol.
Hippo's first iko is the definition of "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" because he does gets countered the same way for using the same move
Some of these are so specific (like Don Flamenco and Soda Popinski ) that i doubt they were firmly scripted to be like that, there may have been a mechanic intended that just didn't fit but some leftovers still. Something like stamina, and gets reduced everytime we hit but recovers overtime or if we get hit. I'm tripping maybe, feels like every character was done by someone different with another idea of the game, unlike past games. Which is a really awesome concept, is just sad that we get very little of each of them, but maybe thats for the best, i wouldn't like that all characters had a infinite combo we coud do or instantly knock by a secret combo. Each has a set of rules and it makes them unique, i love this game
i feel maybe he was a boxer for a long time and then he either got an injury or got hurt badly in one of his bouts so it couldve done something to him. Cause i feel when he shaves his hair in TD i like to think he reverts to his "older days" of being Von Kaiser which he would be known for the windmill
Glass Joe actually has 2 IKDs! Basically, after you knock him down for the second time, any level of star punch in the later rounds will always knock him down. Although this only works if you have not taken any damage. If you have, then this trick will not work.
Am I the only one who considers knocking off KH's crown to be a knockdown? I guess not technically but at least this time they gave him the dignity of a single recovery.
I wonder if anyone has ever done an "only IKD/IKO" playthrough, that would be interesting to see, I do think some fighters need specific rules as they sometimes need to be damaged a certain amount for their specific one
I've only done the sandman speedrun strategy once. It's really tricky. It looks super simple, just to remember how many times to get blocked? Nope! You need to get move cancels all over the board.
@@nolan414_ I'm a year late to the reply, but since then a lot has been going on, but I decided to revisit the Punch-Out speedrunning community after a long time recently and ended up actually tying the contender Sandman WR yesterday 😅 Then I found myself on this video and noticed this, so I guess I've done it another time since then
Punch Out's head to head mode also has instant knockdowns/knockouts (im sure you knew that already) Knockdowns 1. Counter Giga Mac's star replenishing taunt with a star punch. 2. Counter Giga Mac's stamina replenishing taunt with a star punch. Knockouts 1. Counter Giga Mac's star replenishing taunt with a three star punch. 2. Counter Giga Mac's stamina replenishing taunt with a three star punch. 3. Hit the other player with a three star punch when your Giga Mac stamina bar is at least 2/3 full. The other player must be Little Mac. They also must be stunned blue. There might be more hidden tricks in head to head mode. I've only discovered and seen other people discover these.
im not sure if this counts as a ikd but if you are fighting mr.sandman and you dodge his dreamland express perfectly (i think it is a frame prefect dodge) than you can jab him forever
That can also happen if you land a star punch as he is coming back from drinking his soda. You can then use the star punch when he is walking towards you before the uppercuts.
For some reason, i feel like if you got a star or 3 star on his "Photo Op" taunt it would knock him down/out. Certainly would be hilarious and fitting for a photo op lmao.
for aran ryan, im pretty you can get an instant knockout by using a 3 star punch while he does the punch that he does when he is going down edit: you only need 1 star and this is in title defense, not contender
Awesome video, you've earned a subscriber! (Also, when I went to press the like button, I accidentaly hit dislike, so if you get some kind of dislike notification or something, that was me accidentaly pressing dislike) Keep up the awesome content 😎
I know it's technically not an "Instant" KO, but if I recall correctly, Glass Joe is immediately knocked out if he's hit 60 times or something, if you haven't managed to knock him out by then already. I'm not positive on the number. I just think that's funny.
