@@donwrott8 I can recommend you fightTIPS, Tonny Jeffries or Gabriel Varga channel but there are many more good channels. The channel of The Modern Martial Artist has some very good review of pro boxers and it is very interesting to watch different boxing style as a beginner.
8 years later, and this is still some of the best boxing instructions on RU-vid. Marvin if you did new content, you would have the #1 boxing channel. We miss you.
beverly rose 'blow jobs for trump power comes from a combination of hip and foot work I think it's more on the foot work side that's where you capitalize
This is what makes Floyd Mayweather jr a genius . He lands punches when his opponents aren’t in position to throw. Most fighters have to get in position before they can punch 👍
This dude is making me feel DUMB! I love it!! "How have I never thought of this like this?" is a question i'm regularly asking myself watching these videos. Great stuff
What you teacher sir is the foundation of fighting with principles that are applicable without bias of styles. Strategy is important more than even a style. To know your opponent like yourself by being aware of the limitations of the human body and using those limitation to ones advantage.
kirk brown well Floyd has a style it is to adopt every style to distract his opponent watch his defensive stances he choosing traditional the phylly shell he bobs and weaves slips pivots out it drives his opponent to not feel confidence
This guy was awesome, too bad he abandoned this channel and dissapeared from YT. I found his channel and subbed about a year and a half ago, but he is no longer here. All his vids are from 2012 or older.
@Unite&fightdammit I just googled him and his name is Marvin Tyrone Cook, check out his facebook page, I haven´t as I think perhaps there´s no new material in there, but who knows. I read somewhere that guy just wanted to disappear from the net and take his time to chill or something like that, ya know, we can´t tell what´s in some people´s mind. He looked great in his vids but perhaps was depressed or something. It´s a shame as he is such a great instructor.
What's incredible to see is that these videos have aged so well. The rise of Lomachenko with his beautiful footwork and ability to hit while moving is testament to these core concepts.
Great speaking/teaching skills. Another thing is that most boxers only "piston punch". You don't have to push off your opposite leg for a strong punch; you can punch with the same side leg. It is a hip twisting action, I think Sugar Ray Leonard was very good at it.. You can fly away from your opponent and hurt him if you're using the hips well. I call them transition punches.
Barrera caught Erik Morales with a beautiful 3 punch combo while moving backwards without pushing off the opposite leg. He just let his shoulder rotation do the work.
@@ryankabcenel9700 With footwork, you generally push off the opposite leg of which direction moving. Example, you wouldn't push off your right foot to move to your right. You push off your left foot to move right and vice versa. Moving forward you push off your back foot, and vice versa
If your upper body is incredibly powerful you can still generate enough force to seriously damage your opponent even without hip rotation. These are guidelines and basics all fighters need to know. in real life it is sometimes necessary to deviate, for example if your opponent is wide open you might throw a hook even if you are off-balance for some reason. For example the most powerful punch that can be thrown is one with a running start and a jump at the end. This type of punch can kill someone if it connects clean however it’s trivial to get out of the way and attempting this in the ring is more likely to get you knocked out than your opponent.
a lot of mma guys train in boxing heavily, the problem is the necessity to compromise the stance for the defence of leg kicks and takedown really does take a trol. I think the true boxer stance is awesome but i simply cant move in and out fast enough to completely avoid takedown & leg kicks.
SELAIN My first Judo Sensei told me something that its absolutely truth when it comes to fighting. "Its all about space management; in order to get hit, you have to make the conscious decision to accept the hit. Keep your distance, as they try their technique/combo, shift your stance and close the distance. It worked for Rousey's first few fights.
***** I have sparred with MMA guys while they were getting ready for their fights. I am a Judo guy, who is new to boxing. I was able to easily avoid their punches, close the distance, lock their limbs in the clinch, take them down and finish them. I believe Ronda rousey lost because they made her believe that she could stand toe to toe with a real boxer. She should have stuck with a Judo game plan. Can't "fake the shake"...
+franciscoreatas11 Ok I am talking about True Boxers like Marvin Cook NOT the MMA guys that you were sparring with. Marvin and those MMA guys are WAY Too Different opponents. With the proper footwork, balance, angles, and all the principles of the True Boxing Discipline, it will be Extremely Difficult for any grapplers to get a hold of them-(actually True Boxers) not your MMA guys. The MMA guys who train at the pro fighting gym of where Marvin is at in that video Could Not shoot or clinch or takedown Marvin in anyway, he Overcame them by Outsmarting them. I only used capitalization for some of the words and letters only to emphasize, not because I am yelling(except the acronym of MMA)
great video. These are really basic concepts that you learn in training true boxing or a martial art. I dont know why a lot of MMA guys don't learn footwork and mobility. it's essential. the guy here explains things nicely and has great footwork.
Because there are more than 2 fist to worry about in mma if u slip like a boxer u can catch a kick to your head timed by opponent jon jones vs daniel Cormier 2 see the ko d.c leans into the kick because a bad habit of slipping like boxers do when kick boxing and grappling it can work against you ...see dominic cruz ,t.j. dillashaw for footwork. .head slips bob weave see anderson silva defense.and counters
If you keep up a hard jab and continue moving you are limiting your opponents ability to accurately kick you. Also slipping like that does not force you to throw a punch, if you know your opponent is kicking high you might bait a kick and catch him off balance. In both sports the point is to be unpredictable.
Way to teach Devil Dog!!! Semper Fi 💪🏾💯 I Loved the Landmine Reference, and also like how you were teaching the one kid to stay bladed, or skinny, versus square!!! I Box myself out of Pittsburgh!!! (Paris Island Made...💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾)
I have watched many different boxing videos: This man has got his shit together! I've used his techniques when I spar - They really work well and after some practice, they are quick and easy to execute. Thank you, Mr. Cook!
I basically got all this from watching other boxers and a lot of different videos on youtube, but this video is the video I wished I had a long time ago. This is awesome and really goes into detail. Awesome trainer, awesome video.
Knowledgeable teacher for sure my last trainer knew about 50 percent of what this guy knows and he created champions but this guy will create a monster or the next ali
best trainer in this universe,i have never seen a trainer doing this kind of class, now days gym always say to throw the punch tgey dont even teach u how to throw a punh, especially here in hong kong, worst place to learn boxing.nway thanx for the video @marvin cook
I’m an MMA fighter and I’m trying to get my career off the ground.. these principles will be the foundation for my stand up fighting. My goal is to have this man become my striking coach. There’s nothing that’s resonated with me more than what I’ve seen from him.. I’d also like to use Duane Ludwig’s system with Marvin’s concepts. Unstoppable striking
@Jesus Pernia without being disrespectful, I don’t think he’s that great. I can’t imagine being on the receiving end of his power. But before the fury fight i saw him on the pads. I was amazed at how bad it was. Don’t know if you like watching him but there are a lot of examples like him who CAN box. Have a good one!
Im so glad u explained that brova COOK...WITH TURNING RIGHT ON WIP THE BALANCED HIP MODE.WAIL TURNING RIGHT..MAN THANKS BRO...UR TEACHING IS AMAZING BROVA GRACE AND PEACE..WE LEARNING OUT HERE BROVA...IN RIGHTOUSNESS OL ZION...AMEN..📖🙇💭AMONGZ THE REAL CHRIST..GOOF WORK BRO THE LORDZ GOTCHA
This dude is a genius bra I wish he was my trainer this man is truly me lost for words “if u get ran over by the train do not blame the train, u were standing on the track “ that shit makes so that sense
These some intermid/advance concepts. Seminar or Boxing academy worthy. I wonder if these guys even get half the stuff is poring out. Your a true student of the craft brother. :D keep spreading the knowledge never get disgorged :D
I used to think the same thing, I train mma and the true boxer stance applies their as well. By moving and occupying space with your jab, you'll limit the kicks your opponent throws. I was surprised to see that TBS is very effective in mma.
The last few seconds were key. I didn’t know it was ok to turn the HUMV while keeping the turret pointed at the target to move over. Pushing off front left foot to move right is a pain in the ass, so I like that it’s ok to push off with the back foot and move right to go for a more drastic positional change
