In the early 1900s Punta Gorda, Florida evolved from a once rugged frontier town to the county seat of newly-formed Charlotte County. Throughout the years, the community weathered hurricanes, freezes, and the 1920s land boom crash - but nothing could hamper the town's continued growth. To this day, newcomers continue to flock to the popular destination near Charlotte Harbor.
The sunshine state has a rich and colorful history. For hundreds of years the state has attracted dreamers, opportunists, inventors and fortune-seekers. WGCU's Untold Stories aims to preserve the history of Southwest Florida communities.

You got people moving here from not just other states and living here 6 months, you also have the southern Lee county people moving up here too (great, but they bring their ways with them), due to "cleaning up" Fort Myers/Lehigh Acres (both places rent has risen up to at least $1,600 for 3 bedroom/2 bathrooms... not that Charlotte county isn't any better. There is only 2 ways in and out of Charlotte County, and it's just more and more crowded. Crime has went up drastically too. More and more houses are being built up here as well, and very cheaply. There's literally nothing to do here. You'd travel to Sarasota/Tampa/Orlando to do some fun stuff.

"While preserving the natural Florida, that brings people here the first place." The quote at the end of the video. What a joke. Charlotte county commissioners dont know what preservation is. The greats spectacle now days is the Allegiant failure on the harbor. An please dont tell me that Allegiant is going to finish the concrete harbor blocker. Cause I'm going to that's bs. Which it is. The only work going on at that place is sealing of solid poured cavities in the block. To protect the rebar inside from rusting. As it sits. Till the county commissioner chumps can sell the property and building to someone else. An by then new owners will tear that down for something else. An all happens as theres plans to build some other monstrosity directly across 41 from Allegiant failure. Ahh, what a great county to live in modern times. (Yes, tons of sarcasm.) I've been here 21yrs+ now. An the county has fell to selfishness, narcissistic, greedy, money hungry d-bags. (If you don't get d-bags. Google it.) Nothing original. Nothing for the young adults. Nothing for children. Nothing for couples. An I can debate anyone on those topics very easily. So please try. I'm done with my rant now. An I do hope the right people see this. Maybe it will open the eyes of the right people too. I wish you all well.
