Veterinary medicine has come so far. Years ago they would have just said “put him down”. Now, at least they’re able to reach a diagnosis by exclusion.

It's wonderful how far it's come. Imagine putting down this poor little boy. That would be devastating to lose your puppy like that.
@wendyclark3260
@wendyclark3260 Год назад
What do you mean years ago , vets to this day still would say " just put him down " / recommend euthanasia depending on the extent of the diagnosis / likely outcome
@Danica.Powell
@Danica.Powell Год назад
@wendyclark3260 of course, it wouldn't be right if they didn't have it as a suggestion. But these owners just weren't going to do that even if it was recommended and I think it's great that they can do so much if a person is willing to pay the bill. I'm sure if they believed that no matter what treatment you did that the animal would have a poor quality of life then they would be advocating for that for the animal.
@Danica.Powell
@Danica.Powell 11 месяцев назад
@cheeririnaldo435 I think it's also a bit of a problem because people think that this is actually expected of them when their pet becomes sick, that they must spend money they don't have for expensive treatments because they think are a bad owner if they don't. They don't have to do that, there's absolutely nothing wrong with euthanasia when the animal needs treatment that you either cannot or do not want to pay for. It doesn't make you a bad owner at all. Mostly when it's not on TV and your animal is sick it's easy to chat with your vet and work out what the best choice is without judgement from them. Well my cockatoos vet is like this, he's only ever been sick once but they were very careful to make sure that I knew what the bill currently was before I opted to do any more treatment and how much it would be if I did that treatment. It wasn't cheap but it was exactly what I was expecting to pay, it was not second mortgage type money, it was a few thousand and those treatments saved his life which is what I wanted as he was only a baby at the time and would have a long and happy life ahead of him if we got him through.

I went through this with my shepherd I thought he had fallen off the drop off near the one part of my yard some how because he was really limping and in pain… turns out it was something called “pano” they said it’s like growing pains but for dogs and that he had to be on pain meds antibiotics and bed rest poor fella we did low impact training like commands and scent training to keep him engaged and everything but he still got so bored by the end of his bed rest that he tore up his whole mattress so I figured if he’s comfortable enough to destroy a crib size mattress he should be able to play a short game of fetch 😅 he’s since grown out of it and is a beautiful full grown adult ❤

I'm sorry, but a lumbar puncture for meningitis was unnecessary. This dog had zero symptoms of infection. There was no sinus congestion, no fever, no discharge, no ear issues. You had the info you needed. He was playing with another dog and suffered an injury. Lumbar puncture should be less flip and used for infection suspicion, not injury suspicion.

This poor pup. It is wearing a collar. Did his leash get yanked and damage that part of the neck?
@AnnaHartman-spiritwolf
@AnnaHartman-spiritwolf Год назад
I don't like collars for dogs. They should not use a collar on this pup. ALWAYS use a halter so the pressure from them pulling on a leash is spread across the chest not just pulling 100% on the neck .
@gizzmowalliss
@gizzmowalliss Год назад
Depends on your position if you use a harness then it’s less pressure on the dogs neck but you have also got less control of the dog, if they get into a fight I would prefer a collar because of the control it gives me but I also understand that this is a puppy and it does need a firm but not rough hand so it could be trained with a harness but I also see that because it is going to turn into such a big dog there is a need for control.
@SaraNightfire1
@SaraNightfire1 Год назад
@@gizzmowallissHarnesses also really encourage pulling. And that’s not a good idea with big dogs (which he’s going to grow into). Also it’s very easy to chew out of. My brother owned a husky and insisted on having a harness for him. He chewed out of every one.
@gizzmowalliss

@hazelco8622
@hazelco8622 Год назад
Harness is a good thing for young pups. They are fragile, even big and giant breeds. Keeping them in harnesses (can be specialized harness for control if they are pullers) on walks and runs for the rest of their lives is also good. The fit of a harness, is also important. They should be snug but not tight, and should never chafe the front armpits at the back side.

@AccidentallyOnPurpose
@AccidentallyOnPurpose Год назад
Sometimes with certain conditions it makes it worse. Because, with pain meds they'll become more active and move more, and if it's a spinal injury the animal could accidentally make it worse because they have little pain signals. That is why in cases where trauma isn't apparent they will wait for a diagnosis.
