Why make a movie? It's not recommended. Filmmaking is such a horse's ass, and we don't mean American Pharaoh's. There's a lot of bullshit you have to deal with in an increasingly unpredictable world, lots of human error and human evil, sometimes even unrehearsed heartache! Given these variables, we'll let you in on the secret, the secret that anyone who does anything knows: it's that there's something enormously satisfying about letting an idea germinate, and letting it expand into a story, and getting the right people to make it real, and then making light pretend to be their performances, then piecing the story back together again with all the king's horses and all the king's men, then sending your little fledgling out into the big bird world to see whether it's going to end up on the sidewalk or in the clouds. There's money and people and life and lies and truth, there's disaster and brilliance and boredom, and, at the end of it all hopefully, there's a hot meal and a warm bed (with a warm body in it if you made any money on your last one). Making a film means total commitment, like a good murder or great sex,and it also means that as much as you put into it, this whole goddamn thing could explode tomorrow morning and you will cry, and then after crying you'll say Fuck It and think about the next movie. And it isn't just obsession, it's something else, something nobody knows... maybe this doesn't answer the question.
