It appears that a towering more than 15,000 foot tall volcano could soon erupt as what was likely magma was detected at shallow depths. This situation is occurring at Colombia's Purace volcano, and as a result its alert level was raised from yellow to orange. Almost all of the volcano's measured activity has increased in the last 6 days, and fluids that could be magma were detected at only 800 meters depth. As a result, Purace may soon produce its largest eruption in 40 years.

Note: Such a "large" eruption would likely only rate as a maximum of VEI 2.
