Congratulations! I had a 1997 Mahindra 485 DI and it would pull anything you hooked to it. It was a man. My cousin just bought a new Mahindra 2538 and I have uncles and friends who all have Mahindras.
A lot of tractor for the money!! I just bought 2.5 acres half an hour out of San Antonio so I will be looking at the same issues as you have. Enjoying the videos! Thanks
Awesome, enjoy the property and peace and quiet. I've had this tractor for around seven months now and it's been a real work horse.......Thanks for watching.
Very nice. It's your money spend it has you want. Everyone has a opinion about what's better. In the end if you are satisfied that's all that matters. Minhindra is the worlds leading tractor manufacture for a reason Good luck enjoy it.
I had to laugh as your wife was freaking out during the tractor load. When we loaded my 2540 Mahindra onto a rented (new) car hauler, the Dodge RAM back end went skyward and the back of the trailer was just about grounded. I'm not sure if your tires were filled, but mine were, and with the 6ft brush cutter on the 3 point, that's a bunch of weight on a trailer that has a GCW of around 5500 lb. The tractor rode nicely and made it safely on its 25 mile journey home. I really like the tractor, which is my first. Once spring gets here, I have plenty of projects planned for the beast. I considered a 3038E JD, but it lacked in features and capacity. I almost bought a Branson, but it was 600 miles away. I came across my 2540 on CL with 47 hours, along with a Mahindra SD6 cutter, 6ft MD rear blade (never used), and a rare front plow, and I couldn't pass the deal up. My first tractor, more tractor than I need, very happy so far. Now I'm looking at pallet forks. Did I hear one of the girls speaking Russian?
Yeah she was definitely freaking out, Mahindra's are heavy that's for sure. I ended up trading the 4550 a year later for the 5555 because I realized I wanted the shuttle drive transmission. But the 4550 never gave me any problems, just got tired of having to come to a complete stop to go from forward to reverse and still would grind gears a little. My wife and her family are Mongolian and they do have Russian influence.
Love my Mahindra tractor! I have the Max 26 XLT and started up a channel myself. Ill be following along on your channel to see what you accomplish! Cheers
Thank you for publishing. I have had a 5530 4WD for the lat 3 years. I've seen Mahindra usually gets a bad reputation. It's true I would like a lower gear and a cup holder. Other than those trivial issues my tractor is a work horse. It is heavy enough to do some impressive land clearing. I will say that the Mahindra dealer where I live is extremely slow and costly. I have learned to do the maintenance myself. Thank you for posting. Cheers!
Thanks, Yeah there is a lot of negativity about Mahindra and I new that from the beginning but there's a lot more positives out there. You are right that it is a work horse and for the money you just can't buy a comparable tractor.
Thank you for your video. I am picking up my 4540 tomorrow and just can't contain my excitement. If you have time, could you put a video out on how it is working after 2 years? Thank you again
Pete B. I haven't read all the comments so someone may have suggested it already but i would stick a could of jack stands under the rear frame of your trailer when you are loading or unloading so you don't put so much stress on your pickup. It's a nice looking machine. We are buying an acreage in the next 6 months and i plan on purchasing the 5555 model.
Derek Chaplin Yes definitely a pair of jacks will work, I'll do that next time. Enjoy your new 5555 they are definitely heavy tractors. Thanks for watching.
Great choice. I will be buying two or three tractors in the spring. I have really done my research and I have decided that I am going with Mahindra. I also have a great dealer here in my area. I am looking forward to using the Mahindra equipment. I am also going to buy a Mahindra UTV and later a Mahindra Roxor. The larger tractors are assembled in Houston and other plants around the country, the UTV is all American made in Arkansas using Kohler motors, and the Roxor is assembled in Detroit and is about 50/50 from India and US. Enjoy your Mahindra.
That's awesome, I ended up trading the 4550 for the 5555 because I got tired of the non synchronized transmission and I wanted the shuttle trans in the 5555. Here's the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lJyx02RirC8.html
Thanks, but I traded it in a year later because I got tired of the non-synchronized transmission and bought the Mahindra 5555 shuttle shift. The 4550 was a great tractor and never gave me any trouble and I had 115 hours on it. But the 5555 in a beast and I love it. Here's the video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lJyx02RirC8.html
+Jason j I really like this tractor, I dug a ditch along the fence and my driveway today from the metal building and halfway down my driveway..........with the front end loader 6 feet at a time. This tractor has plenty of power for what I need.
I have the identical machine, but I've had the warm up issues, where it won't come up to temp. Otherwise the machine has been great, and has a ton of power. Also, the red handle is the pressure sensing draft control for grading and such. The other black lever, right side of the seat, is for your factory rear hydraulic aux valves.
+dirtyford I thought my temperature gauge wasn't working but it does go up a little bit. I checked the radiator coolant and it good and full. Thanks for letting me know about the handles especially the black handle next to the seat. Here's a video I just uploaded on the tractor removing some old concrete from our property. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZoxvqwHyGQY.html
i have had all types ford jd ih. I love my 4540. I dont dislike any others just 4540 is what i like price not bad and great tractor. Believe me here in southeast louisiana we work them mud rain roots you name it. No problems!!!!
What you can do to keep it from lifting the truck is place like an old railroad tie peice undert the tail end of the flatbed and you wont see the lifting motion.
Mine was an electrical nightmare. Kept it for 2 months in shop 3 times. Traded it in for a John Deere no problem with it. I think the mahindra tractor is not bad I just got the 1 that was.
I recently traded it in for the 5555 because I didn't like the non synchronized transmission. The 4550 was a good strong tractor and I put 115 hours on it and never had a problem with it. I just didn't like grinding the gears when I had to go from forward to reverse. I had to make sure that I was not moving and wait a few seconds to shift in to reverse.
Thanks for sharing your country living goodies and your lifestyle! I have always heard that with heavy machinery like this, owners need to be aware of safety hazards, possible accidents etc. Have you been safety briefed when you bought your tractor or done any safety checking on your own? This is a serious machine! What are the most dangerous hazards you face working with a tractor like this and/or living 'out of town' ?
No I have not been safety briefed but I don't get to crazy with the tractor and try to use common sense when I'm using it. I might work it pretty hard sometimes but that's what I bought it for, to do work around the property. If there's something I can't do then I'll hire someone with the right machinery to do it. I haven't really had any dangerous experiences although many commenters might disagree :) This country living is a learning experience but I love every minute of it and I'll never go back to the city.
Smart man. I have responded to numerous tractor related deaths. The simplest stuff can get you in a hurry. I once saw a guy pulling a steel i-beam with fence hanging off of it to level a pasture. The chain was connected to each corner of the i-beam and formed a v to the tractor. He was going fast and when he turned, the right rear tire grabbed the chain and after it wound around the tire, it flipped the i-beam over the tractor. As the beam flipped over him, the chain fell on him and tightened up so tightly if broke his back and killed him as it bent him towards the floor. He was a huge man, and bent the throttle control straight down towards the floor. I will never forget the accident. One thing that I learned that day is that a rollover protection system would have saved him. I have seen many others where the RPS would have saved them as well.
Pete B I'm curious how you like your tractor after almost three years. I have a 1538, but thinking about moving up to a larger, either a 2655 or 4550. Haven't decided if I want shuttle or HST. If I decide on shuttle I'll get the larger one. Thanks!
I traded in the 4550 because I didn't like the non-synchronized transmission. But other then that it's a great and powerful tractor. I ended up trading it in for the 5555 with the shuttle transmission, It's the way to go. I hear that the HST transmissions could have problems after about 7 years and they are not as powerful as having the clutch on the shuttle drive. Here's the video when I got the 5555. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lJyx02RirC8.html
@@petebeasttexashomesteading Nice tractor! I'll look at that one when the time comes. I watched your video, and the one with the 3pt backhoe. I got the backhoe on my 1538, and I'll bite the bullet and get the frame-mounted one from Mahindra. But I prolly use mine a lot more than you do. Cheers!
Do you think this will be way yo much for me. I have 7 acres and it's basically 3 acres pasture, 2.5 woods and rest shooting range. I do lift BBQ pits or pipes once in a while but thinking maybe a model below this one.
+Jorge Serna It all depends, I wanted to get the biggest tractor I could get without going over $30,000 I was going to get the 3500 series but they all had the heavy duty hydrostatic transmission and cost a lot more and that's one more thing to fix when it breaks. Here's a link to the Mahindra new 4 tier tractor web site so you can compare. mahindrausa.com/tractors/tier4
+Pete B. I will have to drive around 3 hours to get to nearest dealer and see them in person. I have about 1 year with the property and really need a tractor and do like the one in your video. I will check out the link and see what info I can find. My neighbor has a 2013 or 2014 JD that I tried out last week around 45 or 50 hp. The HP was good except it's 2wd and was getting stuck all over since a dozer was on location that day clearing out brush. I guess my main issue is not knowing the exact hp needed for attachments. Anyways great video, good information, very helpful. Appricate the response.
+Jorge Serna The 4550 might be a little big for your acreage but I believe it's better to have a bigger tractor around when you have to do big jobs and the 4x4 is really great. A septic truck buried his truck in the mud on our property, he didn't think that the 4550 would pull him out, I hooked the chain to the back put it in low and I didn't even spin the tire on the tractor and I pulled him right out.
I think ChuckE2009 is right that most of the problems that are electrical are caused by the government mandated safety switches. I haven't had to do any warranty work on it yet but the place I bought it from are really nice people and I don't think I would have an issue with them...........I hope :)
HI sir i have just watched your video , and it was dated April 2016 and i was wandering if that was the date you bought your tractor what your thoughts were on it after 5years ,the Mahindra do appear to be great value for money and very strongly built i would love any feed back that you could give me kind regards from N Ireland UK .
That tractor I traded in for the Mahindra 5555 because I didn't like the non synchronized transmission of the 4550. but over all it's a strong tractor, heavy and plenty of power.
ok I see the video now. I am drawn to the 4550 because I am thinking it is simpler so it will have less to go wrong with it, as opposed to a modern tractor with the shuttle shift, etc. I have 10 acres of raw land that I want to clear approx. 2-3 acres of and cut trails. What is your advice? is the 4550 that terrible to shift? should I go with the 5555, is it just as simple, less to break?
Well the 4550 is a great tractor and I never had a problem with it. But you can't shift to another gear unless you are at a complete stop or you'll grind gears. No synchronizers in the trans, so you have to start in whatever gear you need to be in. The 5555 has a synchronized trans and you drive and shift like you would a manual shift on a car and you can shift from forward to reverse while the tractor is still moving. I couldn't do that with the 4550. So it's up to you and what you need it for and how much money you want to spend. If you're going to use it just to clear land and cut grass, then the 4550 would be ok. But if you can get the 5555 then it will be much better to do a lot of other things especially when using the front loader and going from forward to reverse. Hope this helps.
So, how has the tractor been treating you, I'm thinking of buying one, I've looked at most of the others and I have a Mahindra dealer really close by. Thanks.
I ended up trading it in for the Mahindra 5555, not because I had any problems with it but because I wanted the synchronized transmission. The 4550 was a great tractor and I never had any problems with it. But I got tired of the non synchronized trans and having to come to a complete stop when going from forward to reverse or you would grind gears. I have video review on the new one here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lJyx02RirC8.html
Thanks so much. Yeah, I wondered about how that might work out in the long run, I'd be doing a lot of ground bucket and grapple work, so HST is a must. I'll go check out your new vid, thanks again for your reply.
Thanks for the video just concerned with the hauling of your load. If you don't mind I would like to help you be a little safer next time should you need to move it. First the ramp if you had supports welded on the bottom it would make loading a lot safer. It would stop your truck from lifting so high in the back. I say that because unless you have the E brake on and well adjusted, if the back tires lift then it's nothing holding the truck or trailer in place. Second with metal you should used chains to tie down your load. Straps can be easily cut on sharp edges. God forbid you wreck you want to keep it from going forward and running you over, and keep it from coming off and harming others. Last would be every implement needs to secured. I say this, because I drove trucks for some time, and I've seen what happens when things go wrong. Check the law about your hang over on the trailer and remember to tie a flag on the end. Wishing you and yours many safe years ahead. Its also a tractor company that did videos on safe loading that may be worth watching.
Thanks, I don't plan on moving it any time soon but yeah your right about having some support under the back to keep the front of the trailer from picking up my truck and chaining the tractor down. I only used a strap to hold the mowing implement from swaying side to side but straps do tare on sharp edges..........Next time it will be done right. Thanks
I traded the 4550 a year later for the 5555 because I got tired of the non synchronized transmission. But the 4550 was a great tractor and never gave me any problems and plenty of power.
Not dogging you at all. If you take care of your tractor and have some mechanical ability, I think you can get many years of good use. Keep it greased, torqued, clean and dry and do your scheduled maintenance. With so many grease points I finally ordered a Lincoln Electric grease gun (corded model). I have always fought with grease guns of the pneumatic and hand pump type. Never could get one to prime and a hand operated one will wear you out on a tractor and take a good hour. I'm telling you, that Lincoln Electric was the best $180 I've eve spent. I can grease a tractor in 5 minutes now. I'd also mount a small tool box somewhere so you can carry spare pins and shear bolts, a ladies foot and a dead blow hammer. Maybe a screw driver and a long chain too if you have room. Nothing worse than shredding your field on a hot day far from the house and you shear a bolt or lose a pin and have to go all the way back to the house to get tools. Also, if you don't have chain hooks on your bucket, get some. I use my chains to lift stuff more than I use my actual bucket. I live on 20 acres too but I also do side jobs. Shredding, putting in roads, drive ways, tree and stump removal and excavator work with mine. You sized yours about right for 20 acres. Rhino makes a 12 ft wide batwing that you can run. Only requires 35 PTO HP. Rhino Stealth I believe. Happy farming.
Thanks for the info and I'll have to check in to that grease gun. I hate messing with the hand pump grease guns, I usually get more on my hands then in the tractor :)
I had it for about a year and traded it in for the Mahindra 5555 with the shuttle transmission. The 4550 was a great tractor with plenty of power and never had a problem with it. I just got tired of the non synchronized transmission.
Arturo Zavala The inside width is 82 and 3/8 inches. The outside width fender to fender is 102 and 1/2 inches and the trailer is 18 feet long. It has two 4400 pound axles with 6 lug bolts but I was pushing the limits with the this tractor on it because I could only do 50 mph max before it started to shimmy side to side and stopping was extremely difficult so I had to keep my distance. hope this helps.
Love the tractor but dont like those tires at all they not worth a shit in mud I have the same ones I like the R1 or R2 tires so much better but you bought a real nice tractor
Thank you, I ended up trading it in a year later for the Mahindra 5555 with the shuttle transmission. The 4550 was a great tractor but just got tired of the manual non synchronized transmission.
It was a good tractor but I ended up trading it in for a 5555 because I could not put up with the non synchronized transmission griding gears if you are slightly moving when changing a gears. Here's the video to my new 5555 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lJyx02RirC8.html
Doesn't matter what vehicle, the more axles you're able to drive the better. Especially when you're doing things that a tractor is made for. Same even goes for a pickup truck. The only 2wd truck I had was my first one, ever since I've only gotten 4x4s. 4x4 is one of those things where it's better to have and not need than to need and not have it. I don't care if I only use 4x4 once a year, that's still worth it to me.
Man I keep hearing about Mahindra's affordable tractors and I gotta say, there are way better tractors for the money. I bought an LS a few years back. LS makes New Holland and Case. Same tractor but your not paying for the advertising. 5 YEAR COMMERCIAL WARRANTEE. Mahindra's farm and commercial warrantee are 90 days! Hear me out. I bought an open cab (G3038), 4x4, 38 hp, 1,800 lb FEL capacity, telescoping lift arms, 6 ft shredder and 7ft backhoe for 22k out the door. Was a great tractor but decided I needed bigger and more comfort. Bought an LS XR4155C, 55 hp tractor with 4x4, cab, AC/heat, CD player, air ride seat, 2,729 lb FEL capacity, 2 remotes, telescoping arms, wipers, front and and flood lights and an 8ft beast of a backhoe for 38k out the door. Deere wanted 68k for theirs with 600lb less lifting capacity and a 1 year warrantee. Kubota's equivalent lifted 400lb less, had 1 year warrantee on this, two on that, three years on something else and they wanted 62k. LS beat them both out by $30,000 and $24,000 respectively!!! Why so much cheaper. When you buy a Mahindra, Kubota, Deere, New Holland, you are paying for the advertising which is incredibly expensive. LS spends almost nothing on advertising yet they are a huge company. They are the fastest growing tractor company in the world and if you need parts, New Holland parts are the same. You see LS all over in Europe. In fact, look at a new New Holland tractor and it says plain as day "LS New Holland".
Off brand?.... to you maybe but not the rest of the world. I have friends with Deeres and Kubotas and they have had there share of problems too. This was the best choice for the money I could find. The equivalent Deere and Kubota in money is just not heavy duty enough.

+Tadicharala hareesh kumar here in Canada where we farm for real we run John Deere 11 of them every day. Your Indian junk is just that junk your warantys are a joke and service is a bigger joke. Mahindra builds little toys at best not real tractors you can trust to make a living with farming 185000 acres
+Tadicharala hareesh kumar yea right put a Malinda beside one of my John Deere 8235r side by side and you will realize what a piece of junk Mahindra is. Third world 1960s technology
