Rest In Peace Terry Hall lead singer of The Specials and beloved son of Coventry who sadly passed away aged 63. Much love to his family, the rest of the band and to all his fans.
Loving the SKA stuff you guys are reacting too. You've really gotta check out "The Beat" , in the USA they were known as the "English Beat" I highly recommend "Mirror in the Bathroom" and "Stand Down Margret"
Saw them in London and LA, where they performed as 'The English Beat', supporting the Clash at the LA Forum. A great band. 'Stand Down Margaret' is a classic.
First saw them around 1980 when I was a teenager, last saw them about 3 years ago where my wife broke her foot jumping around like a lunatic, luckily she was boozed up enough to not feel too much pain so I got to see the end of the show😎 You should react to the original 1960s Jamaican Ska, this song was originally done by The Maytals who also recorded the classic 54-46 Was My Number.
If you want to react to another Specials song, I'd recommend "Nite klub" or "Rat race". As mentioned below, you should also check out "Mirror in the bathroom" by The English Beat and "On my radio" by The Selecter.
One of the most famous hits of the king of rock 'n' roll in an unrivaled gorgeous, phenomenal performance by Diana Ankudinova ( 18 y.o.) Can’t Help Falling in Love (Elvis Presley / DARK VERSION cover) Please react to Diana Ankudinova ! Meet the singer with the most unique voice (dramatic contralto with polyphonic overtones), reactors call her the goosebump queen. "Together with her tessitura, it identifies her potential voice type as dramatic contralto, the deepest, darkest, and most powerful contralto voice." (Wikipedia about Diana) Full vocal range - 4 octaves. The number of reactions to Diana exceeded the number of 12 thousand reactions. In my playlist section there are 3 playlists (5k+5k+2k reactions each).
Great to see your appreciation of The Specials. If you're checking out the 2 tone label from that era I'd also recommend The Selecter, fronted by the fantastic Pauline Black. Notable songs would be Missing words, Three minute hero, On my radio and Too much pressure.
One of my favourites. Thanks. My mates band 'Ska Wars' do a great cover of this - same song but a bit faster. The original reggae version by The Maytals is also fantastic.
Check out Madness song Embarrassment, brilliant tune based on real life events in family of band member Lee Thompson, many great tunes of theirs to check out
So glad you guys getting into the british ska movement which is long since dead. Im its day ( every underground club played this stuff) every venue was bouncing. Itcwas such good fun uplifying dance music with its own unique scene. Simple music but you knew youd been out for a night when you went to a ska night. I love the great american song book ( doo waps and classic tracks produced on your side of the pond) which is classic feel good music. So nice to see you guys feeling the vibe on our niche party music.
Bloody brilliant, I listen to this regularly, I've got a few ska and reggae playlists I put on to get me through housework, or just with earphones in walking - but I always end up walking really fast if I'm listening to ska 🤣
What a great time for music that was. Not even the late 90's ska/punk could murder these songs. Toots & The Maytals did a live set at Glastonbury a few moons ago and were spectacular. I am not sure if their set was aired on the BBC coverage or if its even on here, but deep dive down another rabbit hole 🤣
Ska was a bit before my time but I remember my older sister listening to it , and I’ve liked it since, but I went to a tribute band gig (think they were called Elton Rifles. In Wigan where I’m from) at a local club a few years ago, they played this and few others from the specials and others and It was one of the best times I’ve ever had at a gig , I was dancing like a madman on the dance floor albeit pissed but it was amazing, it’s great uplifting fun music to just jump around to. It’s was very loud and my ears were ringing for a week later as we were dancing right in front of the speakers ha ha
Wow that was a blast from my teens...very confusing times the 80s....so much awesome music by so many different styles,..so hard to choose, i suppose Azwad needs to be mentioned since UB40 already has...can't see where the Clash comes in, unless it was their later stuff I was rebelling at the time with bands like Stiff Little Fingers and the Sex Pistols Praise the lord i found the Floyd....greatest band ever...
One of the ideas behind 2-tone was mixing the sound of traditional ska with the speed and attack of punk. A mash up of an entirely black musical style and a white one. Think the Specials music displays this best.
Deffo try the beat a song called ranking full stop and also 3 minute hero by the selector! Monkey man is a cover of the original Jamaican ska by a band called toots and the mytals…think you guys are great!
Best version of this is the Maytals one, or Amy Winehouse has done this as well. Thanks for the reactions.guys. You two laughing gets me laughing, proper cheers this old crone up! xxx
Hey guys, if you want some serious upbeat Ska try Madness or Bad Manners, especially if you get a video of Fatty Buster Bloodvessel in all his glory, now that guy could move, his cartwheels were infamous!!
Hello, discover the world of Diana Ankudinova, a young singer from Russia and a talented artist. You will be surprised by the strength and beauty of her voice, you can believe me or not, but, listen to her. Please pay attention to Diana. Thanks. My subscription and like for you.
Do you need the video for this one they’re just having a wail of a time. PS don’t drive to understand the lyrics they relate to the original song going we met in the 1950s in Jamaica
