Beautiful marimba arrangement of a popular tune. Leslie Bricusse/Anthony Newley, arr. Alex Stopa. Music available through Tapspace Publications. To the memory of Gene Wilder, you were an inspiration.
Been watching and rewatching this video during random times over the last couple months, and I’ve begun to realize... this may be the most beautiful marimba performance I’ve ever watched. Thank you.
Sometimes I like to learn my solo's from the ending to the beginning and then rep a ton to make sure I have a strong closer. Would you recommend that techniue for this piece, or should I learn it from beginning to end?
Ginni Strehle the end and beginning are quite similar and probably the easiest to execute (in terms of technique). the beginning is easy to learn and i'd recommend starting there to familiarize yourself with the theme and character of the piece. then look at the end, it'll be very similar and you can figure out how to tie everything together. finally, get into the middle section and make it special! i learned beginning to end and that worked for me, so do whatever you feel comfortable with. thanks for watching!
This is absolutely stunning. I’ve listened to this so many times and many for different reasons. The first time was when I was looking for competition solo ideas, and then I re watched it simply because I wanted to hear it again. And now because I wanted to know how it was set up microphone wise. Do you remember how you set them up? I’ve recently wanted to start getting into recording marimba. I can see the microphones above, but did you have any below the resonators at all? Thanks!
I don't know if anyone is trying to find out what mallets he is using now since it has been about 7 years since the release of this video. But I am pretty sure that he is using Marimba one round sound mallets.
technically, this solo is pretty accessible. musically, there’s a lot you can do. there’s one lick that’s a bit tricky, especially if you have a limited reach... but i would never discourage someone from attempting it! the worst that can happen is it’s too hard and you have to put it away for a few months. nothing wrong with that. depending on the freshman it could be anywhere from a 1-10, haha. i guess i’d say about 6? 7?
How was it learning this piece for you? I’m currently working on it for my senior recital and I just keep hitting walls with it. My deadline is quickly approaching and I was wondering if you had any tips on how to go about this piece
IP Mark Ford Greens, I think 114s?... but they don't make em like they used to. if I could've I would've used something a little heavier down low, but otherwise they're great mallets. I think I'd use IP TB2s if I were to play this again!
I am learning this for my solo and ensemble contest and was wondering how long it would take for a novice like me to learn it as I have only 1 month to get it learned. Is it do-able?
John Cenna If you actually looked at the music and listened to all the small details of this solo you would recognize it's greatness. Alex Stopa did a great job with it.
