Tips on tretinoin: 1. Minimize your skincare. Get rid of toners and essences. 2. Consider washing your face once a day. 3. Consider switching to a non washing cleanser 4. Don’t use facials or facial steamers What to do about peeling? 1. Don’t scrub or use masks or mechanical brushes. You will irritate your skin even more. 2. Use a moisturizer. 3. Check in with your doctor. 4. Avoid googling information. Three magical words: Keep it minimal!

selena dang I think so. When you stop peeling (if you do) you can wear mask without any side effect. But I am not specialist. I am talking based on information I read and listened on RU-vid.

Dana fer I think it depends on your skin type. If you started with a low percentage (0.025) you may not be peeling. As Dr Dray says the “peeling period” lasts between two and six weeks, while the “breaking out period” can last up to two months. Right now I am using 0,05 percentage and I am experiencing both peeling and acne, I will keep you adjourned on my progresses👍

Hello Luv! I am a senior viewer. A College Teacher whose salary has never been substantial enough to seek out great derm care. I have learned SO much from your "library" of videos & I just wanted to thank you. I am half Italian & half Irish. I've used tretinoin or retin A for years. Just the tiniest dabs, maybe 2 times a week. It was CONSTANT peeling & irritation! The Cerave Resurfacing Retinol Serum you recommend which I started a month ago seems to be a perfect solution!! Appreciation! Please never forget us elders are watching!
@juliefraioli6705
@juliefraioli6705 4 года назад
Can you tell a fellow senior viewer how you apply with success?
@jt8142
@jt8142 4 года назад
Julie Fraioli - Here’s how Dr Dray applies it: 1. Wash face with gentle (fragrance free) cleanser at night 2. Apply moisturizer to damp skin 3. Allow skin to dry (e.g. 15-30 mins) 4. Apply Tretinoin to face Many derms also recommend starting out slowly to minimize irritation/peeling, and other side effects; therefore, it could take months before your skin can tolerate nightly or every other night usage. If you’re still having issues, then you may want to talk to your healthcare provider about a lower dosage, depending on which one you’re currently using (e.g. 0.1%, 0.05%, 0.025%).

Kat Lauren yes! My doctor started me out at 0.1 strength along with a benzoyl peroxide wash, this was after me telling her about my extremely sensitive, actively broken out with hormonal acne on the chin - skin 🤦🏽‍♀️. Thankfully I knew better than that and requested a lower strength and stuck to my CeraVe cream cleanser instead of the benzoyl one.

@nicolemitchell446

1. Apply moisturiser. Allow to dry for 10-15mins then apply tretinoin. 2. Use the smallest amount possible. Just the thinnest layer is needed. 3. Stay out of the sun/ use hat and sunscreen if unavoidable. 4. If sensitivity is too severe, take a break for 24hours. 5. Try to avoid makeup. It’s going to look bad on those flakes anyway😂 These are tips I got from some of dr dray’s other video’s. Taking a one day break is something I had to do after the sensitivity kept increasing. Just not using it once made a huge difference and since then I have had far less irritation and have been able to use it everyday with only minimal sensitivity and mild peeling. I’ve been using for about a month now and have seen real improvements in skin texture, appearance of pores and smoothness.

I've been using Tretinoin for 2.5 years and luv it ... now... I struggled with mega-peeling and sensitivity for the first 12 months, only to find that I was using too much. Dr. Dray, thank you for this vid! I know you say to check with the doctor that prescribed different medications for skin conditions instead of trying to figure it out on your own, but I don’t feel that my derm cares as much as you do. They’re always in a hurry to get out and they give me very general responses that aren’t specific to my skin. So thank you for taking the time to address specific skin conditions/needs. My skin would truly be a mess without you❤️

I went to a dermatologist last week for the first time in 21 years, my first visit was as a teen. She prescribed benzoyl peroxide and adapalene serum/ointment. She told me to use dermaroller with vitamin c for scars. I told her, that I thought vitamin c was pretty unstable and she said just but one in a dark container . I also told her if it was safe for me to use dermaroller and she was so ok about it. I really wish I could go see you, dr. Dray. She didn’t even discuss about cleansing, moisturizing, or sunscreen. She didn’t tell me what I can use and not use on my face while on this medication. 😩 I don’t know if this is going to help my adult acne, but she seemed so very uninterested in helping me.

Adila: Have you tried not using Tretinoin every night to see if that helps minimize the side effects you’re experiencing? Many derms recommend ramping up the frequency of use slowly to mitigate irritation/redness/purging. Because when people go too quickly and have a bad experience, they end up giving up; therefore, it’s better in the long run to ramp up slowly. You don’t get better results in 1 year by using it every night at the beginning. This medication takes a long time to achieve the best results. Good luck! 🍀👍

I am 61 and had a laser treatment. It took 7 days to heal. I was prescribed a blend of tretinoin and anti-inflammatory ingredients from a compounding pharmacy to use post laser treatment. Unfortunately, I am a compulsive picker! My husband is constantly scolding me because I assist in peeling, sometimes causing bleeding. After watching your video, it gives me the motivation to stop "helping" the peeling. My skin looks great except for my nose which is where I have most of the peeling. I'm sure that's where most of the sun damage is. Thank you so much again for sharing your knowledge. It motivates me to do the right thing and put up with the skin flakes so they can heal on their own. I also will stop using my serums. My doc didn't tell me about stopping the serums.

Hey Dray! You really helped inform me over the last 6 months in crafting a routine that works for me. Your approach helped me stay patient with my skin, and also kept me consistent. Over the last year, I've consistently kept to a routine. 4 months ago, I added adapalene to it and I'd say about a month ago is when I started seeing significant improvement. I still get acne, sometimes large and painful, but it's gone in 2 days and the mark it leaves behind lasts maybe a week. Such a huge improvement. Key things I learned from you. I kept trying to use my toners, serums, and long list of ingredients type of moisturizers with no success. I have been on Retin A for a year now, and recently gave up on trying to add all these steps to my skincare routine. Now my skin care consists of a Cerave Or La Roche Posay Cleanser, La Roche Posay Toleriane Sensitive for during the day followed by SkinCeuticals Mineral Sunscreen, and at night I use La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra Night and Retin A. Some nights I use Retin A only. Every now and then (once or twice a month) I add a aha peel, but skip Retin A on that day. That is what works for me. 😊

I'm that person - Scottish with extremely fair skin and eczema, but I'm using tretinoin. It was a process to get here though. I started with retinols building up the dose over a year, before starting 0.025% tretinoin. I used that for a month with a little purging (hadn't had a pimple for years prior to this), excess dryness and sensitivity and a bit of peeling. I persevered and my skin acclimatised. I've been on tretinoin for over six months using it six nights a week now at the 0.05% strength. I had to stop all other active ingredients to use the tretinoin though - no AHA's, vitamin C etc, though I have continued to use niacinamide. All my products are now fragrance free and contain calming ingredients like licorice and centella. It has been worth it - my skin looks clearer, the texture is better and it has firmed a little. I plan to continue on the 0.05% for the forseeable future as I'm getting good results and don't think I need to go up to 0.1%, when it would cause more irritation etc. Best wishes.

Everyone's different I guess, I have a mix-bag of English, Scottish and Irish ancestry so I'm pretty damn white lol and I had little to no problems getting used to tretanoin... I started on a 0.05% strength and got some minor flakiness the first few weeks and the purging was pretty bad the first 1-2 months but 4 months later and I can now use it every night with other actives (mostly niacinamide, vit c, hyaluronic acid and azelaic acid). I also use chemical exfoliants 2-4 times a week, just depends. I have a script for the 0.1% strength, I just need to pick it up. But then again, I don't have eczema or anything, so that may be complicating the situation. You may want to try that Dermexa (sp?) moisturizer by Aveeno, sounds like it'd work really well for you. You could even use the one formulated for babies, the ingredients are actually quite good and really gentle too. It's not that different from the adult formula tbh.

Oh...what's wrong with the texture of the cream? I was going to buy it seeing as Cereve is kinda hard to find in Australia (I could order it online but I prefer going to actual shops). I could really use a good moisturizer with ceramides, mostly for those times when my skin barrier gets totally wrecked. I have been looking into K-beauty products, I have few face masks but that's it really. There is a shop in Melbourne that sells Cosrx, Krave etc. but I'm pretty happy with the brands I use now. Although I really want to try that green tea and matcha cleanser everyone seems to love.

I got the worst breakouts on my cheeks that lasted for like 3 ish months. Then after that, I got bad hyperpigmentation the. Followed with peeling. I used a barrier-restoring cleanser and also prescribed salicylic acid pads on the areas. At last, it is pretty much faded and all I see is very very light hyperpigmentation. Spf and consistency in my skincare are really helping and also I stopped picking my face a while ago and that has also truly improved my skin! Leave it to the professionals!! I’m on day 6 of Tretinoin! I stopped using my niacinamide treatment several weeks ago in preparation. The only things I put on my skin are my laroche posay sunscreens during the day, and my Fab cleanser, Necessarie body serum, and Cerave moisturizing cream, and final step, tretinoin at night. I use my moisturizers exactly how Dr. Dray says. My skin is rather sensitive, especially to fragrances (realized this maybe 9 months or so ago) so I’ve been doing this routine recommended by Dr. Dray since realizing. From starting treatment, the only signs I see of purging is slight dryness on my chin, which is where I’m the driest already. No irritations and no new breakouts since since starting treatment!! Very excited! Thank you Dr. Dray 💜
