You shouldn't drink the first batch of filtered water if using new ceramic filters because there will be too much Wollastonite mineral from the ceramic in the water, so you should always throw away the first filtered batch. Also the British Berkefeld is just two stainless steel pots, it's the Royal Doulton ceramic filters that do the magic which only cost about £26 for two so you can stick them in a couple of 5 Gallon buckets and add a spigot to achieve the exact same filter system for a fraction of the price.

Yes you can purchase direct if you wish but if located in a different country then it may be better to look for a more local supplier. Doulton filters have an authentication number stamped onto them so you can authenticate that you have purchase a genuine filter, you can do this online by entering the number on their website.

Thank you for the information about not drinking the first batch. My husband and I will be ordering one of these. We live in the U.S. and a website called American Reserves sells the 3.17 gallon British Berkefeld Stainless Steel Countertop Gravity-Fed Water Filtration. We chose this brand because of the type of filters it uses.

Potassium Permanganate. Two grains per ltr of water... _any water!_ Job done. Also doubles up as a fire starter, if a few drops of glycerine are dropped onto a small heap of grains or ground together, using a twig, with an equal measure of granulated sugar.

Mine arrived today. You can buy filters that last 10 years from another company, berkley but the candles that come with this one only last 6 months :/ I thought they were 10 years.

*Sukama RU-vid* The filters lasts ten years, but don't filter for that period of time, as they require periodic cleaning, due to clogging.

RAIDER FAN They also have local dealers/distribution in conus, if budget is tight go for the Berkey camp filter ;) I made my own and it uses the same filters.

Amazon or Ebay. Comparable filters, manufactured to the same specs, are much cheaper and advertise themselves as replacements. Berkey hasn't sued them, so their claims must be true.

yes, but why? the doulton filters are superior to any of the berkey filters.

*marzsit* Both only filter to 0.2 microns. Most viruses are 0.02 microns. Better with black carbon filters containing integrated silver and activated charcoal.
