This production was taped at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx in July 1981. It was first shown on television part of the "Broadway on Showtime" series in October 1981.
In this number Missy (Rhetta Hughes) and Lutiebelle (Melba Moore) get to know one another, and soon Lutiebelle reveals her secret feelings about Purlie (Robert Guillaume).

Melba Moore, is an award winning American singer and actress. She was born in New York City on October 29, 1945. She just celebrated her 77th birthday on October 29, 2022

I saw the touring production in the mid 80s, so this was especially wonderful to watch because I adore Melba Moore.

Saw this when I was little girl. Got the album, used to sing all the songs and my patient parents listened to me. Never mind I couldn't sing. Love Melba Moore!

I played Lutiebelle in my 6th grade school play. Boy did I rehearse. Just wanted to hear the lyrics again. I'm 45 years old now. Was a long time ago. Still remember a lot of it.
