Of the two filters in the video, the red one wins in every category except my preference of a coil spring over a stamped leaf retainer spring. I personally would spend a few more dollars and move to the Purolator One filter with its synthetic blend media.

I like the construction of the Tech filter a little better with the crimped seam and cleaner appearance. I would pick the Purolator Red because of the better filter media which is the most important part. I have seen several filters made in China and most of them seem to have this brown filter media which looks like it is part recycled paper. I would bet the Tech filter is made by some generic manufacturer in China that put other oil filter companies sticker on them. You can search the internet and find these companies. Very good video.

I have several of the Tech line of Purolator filters and they are made in India at the state-of-the-art Purolator oil filter factory that also makes oil filters for Bosch there as well. That same factory makes the OEM oil filters for automobile manufacturers Suzuki, Tata, Nissan, etc in that region of the globe. Purolator India Limited is the largest manufacturer and exporter of Filters in India. ... Purolator India has two state-of-the-art filters facilities-located at Parwanoo in Himachal Pradesh and Khandsa in Haryana.

Red has sloppy glue and holes have shard edges. The tech is much better made. Made in China wins. The USA made can cause engine damage due to sloppy glue coming loose.

It used to be you could tell a Purolator by it’s fully covered baseplate with the sheet metal that captures the gasket and is part of the can seal, now M&H has hybridized them to take on WIXISH characteristics and further commoditize Purolator. Based on the filter media they are 1970’s technology, not bad but nothing extraordinary. Kind of ironic the red one is made in USA😄

Sad to see M&H moved production of this Tech jobber filter to China. For me, no beuno. Even more happy the Tech filters I got recently still made in the US same plant as the L series classic red. I go with the Purolator Red here, little excess potting doesn't bother me. Contrast the China Tech filter to the two other US Tech filter vids you've made, US made Tech filters FTW. But, I'm sure the China Tech filter cheaper to make, and that's the bottom line. Thanks for the vid.

Thank you. Based on an earlier video, I emailed Mann+Hummel and requested and received Specification Sheets for smaller Purolator L14610 and the Purolator Tech TL14610. They list 99% Filtration Efficiency for L14610 at 30um and unfortunately 50um for the Tech. So, I'm assuming the Tech will most likely always have lower quality filter media.

I would go for the RED one. I think that Tech filters is of lower quality made for old change establishments who need to try to supply the cheapest filters possible to make any money on an oil change. I remember years ago an oil change establishment put a PRO MOTIVE filter on my truck and it was made by Purolator. It was nowhere close to the quality of a real Purolator filter or a Motorcraft (FORD) filter.

I'll say unlikely the topic Made China TL meets the 96.5@20um rating. Otoh, the two made US TL Whip had cut open previously appear to be same media as the Red Classic L series. A big reason why the made in US TL surpasses the topic made in China. That and it's made in the US.

JMO, But I disagree, this Tech filter has way too many holes and will probably filter closer to 50 microns. A Supertech oil filter which I've opened many times claims to filter at 30 microns and has no visible holes under a microscope. Thanks!

@@WhipCityWrencher I´d rather have too big of holes than too small, at least I know the cams and mains are getting oil, most of the crap is being filtered out anyway. Too many engines suffer from "OIL STARVATON!" City driving, automatic trannies with low idle leads to the oil not being filtered enough, for normal filtration you need around 3000RPMs. BMWs are prone to low oil preasure, "KNOCKING LIFTERS!" The BMW shops know about this and have a secret fix...the mecanic reves up the engin too 3000rs for 3-4 minutes giving the oil ppunp a good work-out, called "FLUSHING THE HEAD", no more knocking! I´m old school....change the oil/filter often, keep an eye on the condition of the oil, look - feel - smell and REV THAT PUPPY OUT ON THE HIGHWAY!
