In high school in NYC I was part of a group of the best electrical students in the city. They took us to the Department of Labor for an aptitude test. My test told me due to my inferior dexterity in my hands and based on how I processed information, I was HIGHLY unlikely to be successful in the electrical industry and I was better suited for office work. I was crushed. All I wanted to be was an electrician. I told no one of my results. I remember riding the bus home in silence while all my friends were so excited with their results. I trusted what my parents had always told me. That I could do whatever I wanted. I stayed the course. After a very lucrative 25 year career in various aspects of the electrical industry, I was recently appointed Lead Airfield Electrician at one of the airports in NYC. I don’t tell this story to boost my own ego. I tell this story because even the institutions we know and trust to guide us when we are young, can still play a role in us doubting ourselves. Never doubt yourself. Whatever your goals are, you can achieve them with hard work, dedication and focus.
These are the words of encouragement that he needs to hear to himself. Hence why he is saying it to his son consciously, he also saying it to himself unconsciously. It's exactly the answer to his own questions and problems he is dealing with yet projecting the answer to his son. Which is really amazing writing and acting as well as the underlining message.

This is true! I had a best friend that was telling me to “Get a Life,” and my friend tends to put me down because I was focusing too much on my goals; and not hanging out as much. But 😊now I got the job that I’ve been waiting for! Hard work pays off!
What should I say about the film, really, I was crying last time I saw it in the last 25 years, I have not seen a better movie till today and no such movie will be made, I will give a 10/10 rating to Smith and this is the movie that we have made. Taught me a lot about life
Remember when I was a kid growing up everything I wanted to do was shut down by my mam. If I wanted to do something she would always say mind you this might happen or such and such did that and they failed or had a panic attack. No words of encouragement. I did okay. Left home joined the army served 14 years now own my own business. Took a lot of getting over self doubt however that was drilled into me by my parents because they were all about playing it safe. My little girls I will never do that. I will tell them to aim for the stars
The plot, the acting & the emotions...all were in perfect sync. Will Smith has everything needed to excel in this industry....guess we all have made some bad choices, and his was pretty glaring...sad, but that's life. We are all but a sum of our choices 😢
This is the main reason why I want kids . Because when I’m frustrated, stressed , I can do two things . Take them out to let my mind off , or talk to them and teach them things like this !
My kids will never see dad give up❤ they will grow up to change people's life. I'll leave a little positivity in this world with them , so that they themselves will continue long after I'm gone. ❤
The past 10 years of my life have been a pursuit of happyness and I know happiness is spelled with an “I”😅 But this one part of the movie is where shyt got real damn deep and felt that… I replayed this clip over and over to keep saying it to myself for my children. Because people don’t want to see someone else do BETTER than they are. 🦀🦀 in a barrel.
