Ridge Roamer overview of the Indian Pursuit / Challenger platform with the PowerPlus engine, compared to the Indian Roadmaster / Chieftain platform with the Thunderstroke engine, to identify similarities and differences. Fixed fairing versus fork mounted fairing, as well as a liquid cooled overhead cam engine versus an air cooled pushrod engine are just a couple of the key differences in these awesome tour and bagger style motorcycles. We will also explain some differences between the standard, Limited, Dark Horse, and Premium models.

One of the best videos. Honestly this actually makes each bike in the range make more sense. I was just lost about the differences so the prices made no sense until now. The Indian website needs to explain all of this, or better still just put your video on it. 😂

Excellent comparison, thanks. I would note if you don't want all the tech (electronics that seem to eventually cause problems on moving objects) You might consider the Springfield. Almost no tech. You get ABS, Cruise and a fairly simple digital readout for minimal functions. Not much to go wrong.

Exactly what I was hoping to find here on RU-vid. This was well done. I just bought my first Indian last week. 2016 Roadmaster with 10,000 miles on it. I love that bike and absolutely am sold on Indian. I figure I am going to buy Indian moving forward and this video helped break down the differences. Good stuff.

Really a spot on review. I have owned the following bikes from Indian....2020 Indian Chieftain Elite / 2020 Challenger Limited / 2020 Indian Springfield Darkhorse / 2022 Indian Roadmaster Limited and now a 2022 Indian Pursuit Limited w/prem pkg. One thing about the Pursuit and PP 108 engine. When it's 90 Degrees outside, you won't feel that loss of power that you get on a Powerstroke engine. In addition, the lower fairing on the Pursuit does a much better job blocking the wind than the fork mounted fairing but still has the vents you can open when temps go up. For those that haven't ridden for any great length of time on the new premium touring seat, it is by far, the best stock seat I have sat on. I was not a fan of the Clima-cool seat on my 2022 Roadmaster but this new touring seat on the Pursuit is excellent. Thanks again for the great review !

Excellent comparison. Great coverage. I had chosen the 2017 Chieftain Limited because of the looks and the price point. Plus the Limited has the 19" front wheel and the more open fender. It has enough tech for me, sometimes even a bit more than what I need. And yes, the traditional V-twin sound is what had sealed the deal.

Nice comparison video. My decision was made in 1981 when I had a Vetter Quicksilver frame mount fairing attached to a 1981 Suzuki GS450L. It was many years until I got back on the road, due to life getting in the way but I knew what I wanted. Rode a 2003 Suzuki Volusia for 19 years with a windshield until I traded it in for my 2022 Indian Pursuit Limited. Water cooled doesn't do anything for the rider but it does help the bike. In 2016 I went to Daytona and rode a Chieftain. Loved the Indian feel over any Harley I've ever ridden but still knew that I'd have to wait for Indian to come out with a frame mount. Luckily it finally happened.

Climate can also have a major impact on your choice. Have you ever sat at traffic light in 100° weather? The liquid cooling of the Pursuit is going to make a huge difference during the toasty months in the south/southwest of the country. Thanks for the video! It was very informative 👍

As a long time Harley Road Glide owner, I really enjoyed the comparisons between the different Indian motorcycles. I also really like the traditional Chieftain platform but I thought Indian did a great job with the Pursuit/Challenger platform also. I liked your comparisons with what kind of rider would like which bikes. I can understand your more "traditionalist" view of the Chieftain, but it's hard to not fall in love with the Pursuit/Challenger model.

Excellent comparison video. When it comes to motorcycles and choosing the one for you, the data and what it says on paper doesn't matter a whole lot, it's really what you like that does. Like yourself I prefer the classic look and sound of the Roadmaster. I also think that the Thunderstroke engine is a work of art and beautiful to look at, while the engine on the Pursuit is bland if not ugly.

They are both great bikes, rode them in comparison over two days. I like 116 motor better, but prefer the Pursuit chassis and frame mounted fairing. Didn't care for the standard Roadmaster seat, it pushed me too close to the fairing. At the end of the day, I'd go with the Roadmaster Elite because the seating is roomier than the Roadmaster Standard and I think the ticking valve train noise from the Power Plus motor would drive me nuts.

Great comparison between all 3 bikes. I own a 2019 Indian Roadmaster that i purchased new. I wish i knew that Indian was going to the 116 Thunderstroke engine a year later, and also added the Apple car play the next model year. Ive travelled cross country on this Roadmaster, and after 18,000 miles , I can say this bike is a keeper. I was able to take a Challenger for a road test from the dealer in Newport News, Virginia. What a great bike! I can only imagine what the Pursuit rides like. Also, will Indian be making the Heated/Cooled seat in the Desert Tan Leather seat? I think i would buy this new innovation to bikes! Great job Polaris!

Indian as far as i am concered has lost its way caving to the so called modern boys oh sorry meant men of today. Or did i? Does murdered out mean boring conformatiy dull black to save money on having to do a real paint job same with slammed bags less room and cheaper for your stuff and is a gun fighter seat for men with very small undercarragies and to save money on a proper seat who know i just hate it. It is weird. I spent 2 years dreaming of the Challenger. I ended up deciding on a mid size cruiser and bought the Sportster S. But I still want the tourer as my next bike and I am actually leaning towards the more traditional Chieftain. The reason is that I already have all of the exciting "power at hand" tech on my daily ride. If I get a tourer I am pretty sure it will be more laid back. The Challenger doesn't rock me like it used to.

The Persuit is a great bike but I love the Roadmaster that air cooled sound is iconic and provides heat in the cold the stock heated seat is a plus. The low end torque of the 111 and 116 is plenty to climb those hills and mountains with ease. Liquid cooling on the Persuit I'm sure is cooler in the summer.

Great review, thanks for doing this! I have an ‘18 RM classic, which I love in almost every way. Two negatives: No Apple CarPlay pre 2020, and more importantly Engine Heat. I know that theoretically the WC challenger/pursuit platform should be cooler, but I wonder if it’s perceptively so in hot weather. I’ve replaced the factory pipes with a cat-less set from Reinhart Racing, which I like very much and helped some with the heat, but she’s still HOT. Any thoughts or data on this aspect between pursuit and RM? Thanks!

Yes, it is available as an option, and it does a great job once you get to speeds that you lean. However at low speed, tight turns in driveways and parking lots, it doesn't help. And I'm not saying that would prevent me from riding one, but it is a design result to consider.

@RidgeRoamer
@RidgeRoamer Год назад
That is exactly what I was referring to... parking lot speeds. Turns from a stop, roundabouts, parking lots, etc. Hitting a pothole or debris in the road at night sucks, and having a headlight pointed the direction you are headed is helpful in preventing that. Surely where you ride there are stop signs, stop lights, driveways that curve, cross roads, and other places you have to stop, then turn as you pull away. Thanks for watching!
@stevek8829
@stevek8829 Год назад
@@RidgeRoamer you wouldn't get any angle in a roundabout, unless under about 5 or 10 mph. If you're at a dead stop you can just look, besides your handlebars don't turn 90° anyway, do they? What do you do when driving a car? It's a non factor. I'm sorry, just speaking facts.

@@stevek8829 You are right. I am sure I've never been behind a slow car in a roundabout, or never had to yield to another vehicle as I entered a roundabout that would cause me to slow below 10mph. I wish I could ride in your fantasy world where you can always be above 10mph. I've never heard of a car falling over on it's side at slow speeds if it hits debris in the road, so I don't really worry as much when driving a cage. And to be clear, I own two motorcycles with fixed fairings... I have nothing against them, and have no issue riding them, but it is a distinct difference worth pointing out.
