Well, after rushing to button up everything and get to Solid Axle Summit #5, I failed. I had the cruiser loaded up with all the camping gear, my son, and my hopes and dreams of an epic journey to Colorado. And I never made it out of the county. Bummed me out big time, and took a lot out of my motivation.

Keep up the good fight, man. Depression sucks. It’s good to talk about it. Great content as always!

"BLOCK DRAIN" Don't forget the block drain. It's the lowest point in the engines coolant jacket where the crud likes to settle and collect. Don't be surprised if it's clogged. Located drivers side of block, down low and to the rear. Don't know if you did but some folks use that opening for the Sniper's temperature sensor.
@projectwrongway9127
@projectwrongway9127 Год назад
Used it for the Sniper temp sensor, but solid advice man.

most thermostats have a small hole in it to allow air to pass through, some have a small valve on it to assist with that, good on you for testing to see if it is working.
@projectwrongway9127
@projectwrongway9127 Год назад
Not like me to do that, but I’m learning.

I know this footage is older and you have already found the issue but the cooling system on these cruisers is a bit of a wild goose chase and everyone has an opinion. Ask me how I know. Mines a 2h diesel but the fundamentals are the same. I have gone through the new radiator, thermostat replacement, radiator cap replacement, new hoses and clamps, told it may be a cracked head, fan clutch. All these things cost 💲 to either replace or investigate. In the end someone put the overflow hose on the wrong way around on the overflow bottle so it wasn’t sucking the water back into the radiator so creating air pockets. In this case I hazard a guess it’s the fan clutch or a loose belt which only rears it’s ugly head at high speeds rather than the radiator itself. If the radiator was blocked it would be getting hot at idle
@projectwrongway9127
@projectwrongway9127 Год назад
It is old, but the feedback still helps. And anyone else dealing with it can also get help too,

When I feel overwhelmed or down I either go swim, ride my bike, lift weights or meditate. I had a overheating issue with my wife's 88 Toyota pickup. The radiator had a cold spot in the middle of it. I had to take it to a radiator shop twice. I think it was a matter of impurities clogging things up. At some point I bought a new radiator.

some thermostats come drilled with a small 1/8" hole in them to help with air pockets. Some folks add them to thermostats if they dont come with one. Guessing in video #2 you figured this out
@projectwrongway9127
@projectwrongway9127 Год назад
They were so uneven, I had to believe it was home made holes.

My 82 LC runs about 160 and the 78 LC runs around 170. This occurs regardless of outside temperature. FIRE ALL PARTS CANNON! Edit The holes drilled in the thermostat (you probably know) are for the coolant to run past the thermostat regardless if it is open or not.
@projectwrongway9127
@projectwrongway9127 Год назад
Yeah, figured out the heating issue may have been happening for a while. I love that “Fire all parts cannon”… it was just like that too. I just replaced everything I could think of 😆

Youve been driving that 40 around a bit to local places without cooling issues right? Ive had my thermostat stick closed from time to time. Ive also had a radiator get plugged up. Ive found it best to drive my 40 a lot locally to get as many bugs worked out as i can while close to home. For depression, go for a quiet walk every day looking at nature for 30 minutes or so, maybe bring your wife along. Look at the trees, birds, grass, deer, sky and quietly take it all in. See if that helps.

Not sure if behind the screens to check for coolant in the oil? My first heart break was the head gasket installed backwards during a fresh rebuild which lead to a number of other problems down the road. Then i got paranoid and ruined a good gasket looking in a different problem. How did you test the gasket, compression test?
