In todays video we cut all the independent front suspension out of my 2001 Chevy S10 in preparation for the SAS. We are installing the High pinion dana 44 out of a 1976 F150 fully built, out of ‪@DirtLifestyle‬ TJ. We got this thing fully on its own weight so we can make some important decisions. We still have a ton of work to do but we are getting closer. I am of course using ‪@barnes4wd‬ parts for this build as always. See you next week!

i would lower the spring mount to closely duplicate the tj spring mount to axel set up. that #1 wont cost any extra, #2 not sure how the multi rate 6" spring would work with your intended ride height . 6"lift i think would be engineered to have a much higher ride height before bump. thanks for the great info and explanation on front geometry.

6-6.5 springs then just space them up from axle build the box up or Spacer ... Or get adjustable bump stops to space it up
@matthewschwartz6919
@matthewschwartz6919 Год назад
Not sure if you're taking this into consideration but a longer spring of the same spring rate might not be the answer. With the axle at full bump, will the block height of a longer spring fit between the upper and lower spring mounts? I think this truck will be heavier than a TJ so a stiffer spring with the correct block height might be what you need instead.
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 Год назад
Yes, I think you might be correct. The s10 weights about 800lbs more than the tj, but the engines weights about the same, 4.0 being a little heavier. So I will try this and if it’s too soft, I might change to a zj spring which have a 24lb heavier spring rate than the tj.

5:16 A point of contention.... You don't "have" to use a Panhard bar. (its not a track bar.....) You could use one of the variations on a "watts link". And given your oil pan layout, engine mount set up, along with your steering geometry, you might want to consider a horizontal watts link.
@krisf8178
@krisf8178 Год назад
Taller springs all the way!
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 Год назад
Yup, I will try that first, if they are too soft I can do zj springs which are slightly stiffer.
@legitdelirium3446
@legitdelirium3446 Год назад
If you cut 3" out of the towers and go for the larger springs you will be able to have more down travel. Build some sort of spring retainer for the axle and frame so it doesn't come loose at full droop
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 Год назад
👍🏻 the reason I like the metal cloak springs is even at full droop they never come loose, because of the upper soft spring rate.

Consider ZJ front coils. They are identical dimensions to TJ coil's, but they have a higher spring rate for the heavier V8 chassis.
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 Год назад

@MuddyBeards4X4

@@MuddyBeards4X4, my year (2000), the abs pump was separate from the master cylinder (later years, it one unit). Yes, I’m using the stock master cylinder and it works great. The abs on it was not a good system. It rarely kicked in on road and kicked in offroad way too much. I also needed the space under the hood. I wanted it gone anyway.

If you re-install ABS and get to the bleeding stage and you can't get it to bleed that is normal sometimes when changing an ABS unit sometimes you need a special machine to push fluid through or theres a special procedure. I can't remember specifically for your vehicle but I've had troubles and have helped plenty of people that have had troubles bleeding a new ABS unit. I'd suggest deleting ABS then you don't have to mess with sensors and tone rings and stuff at the wheels with your new stuff. Ive deleted ABS on a few vehicles with not much trouble especially older vehicles. But, and this is a big but lol, if the ABS ties into other systems that require wheel speed and whatnot or theres features you want to keep or the computer needs then it can get troublesome and in that case I'd keep it and try to simplify and relocate things.
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 Год назад
The abs is out, no wheel speed sensors, so it would never work anyways. You need the gm or aftermarket scan tool to bleed the abs module. I worked as a tech for GM and replaced and bled plenty of them, they do suck.
@forreststrong797
@forreststrong797 Год назад
@@MuddyBeards4X4 awesome you shouldn't have too much trouble making new lines and getting it all fixed up. ABS takes up a lot of real-estate sometimes plus I've never liked ABS on a offroad oriented vehicle. I'm guessing your stock master cylinder is probably just fine for the size of calipers on the new axles so you probably won't have much trouble with anything unless you have to mess with the proportioning valve. Have you ever thought about doing hydroboost? It's probably unnecessary with your setup but I really like hydroboost and there's probably some off the shelf parts you could use from the vans.
