I just finally realized Perrito and Jack are supposed to be counterbalances to one another. Perrito has EVERY reason to be a villain but he's so optimistic and cheerful that there's nothing that can get him to turn. Jack on the other hand is just an irredeemable monster with no real reason to be how he is other than...he just is and doesn't give a damn that he is.

I mean I felt that this film and all the other Dreamworks animated films were intended to target both kids and adults. And I think that the Wolf and Puss being scared is a good element to add to attract both Kids & Adults.

Death is based on the folkloric character of the Grim Reaper, whereas the tune he whistles is based on The Silbón, a legend associated with the Los Llanos region of Colombia and Venezuela.

Don Bluth (one of the most prolific animators and animated film directors of the 20th century, Land Before Time, an American Tail, Secret of NIHM) had a philosophy about scary things in kids movies, he said that kids can take just about anything you throw at them, as long as there’s a happy ending. I for one think this is a great philosophy about telling stories to children and all the more important to incorporate important themes for them to ponder and learn about. It’s important I believe to instill into them the understanding that that there will be trials and bad times, but when we persevere and confront problems, there is ALWAYS hope for things to end well.

21:23 I believe that Kitty lied to Puss about not showing up at the altar either. Prior to her eavesdropping on Puss and Perrito’s conversations she would usually be hostile/violent towards Puss whenever Santa Coloma was brought up, also she had stated that she no longer trusted Puss because of what happened at Santa Coloma so the behavior that she inhibits contradicts her statement of not showing up to the wedding since she’d have no justifiable reason to treat Puss with such hostility and distrust. I think she started to believe that Puss had changed or was at the very least trying to so she decided to soften up to him from that point forward, hence why she would lie just so that Puss could let the guilt go.

Perrito means "little dog" in spanish, which is why Puss and Kitty used that as a placeholder.

This interpretation of Death is very refreshing; his weapons being sickles is genius. While their still harvesting tools, they also hint at the Egyptian god of the dead, Anubis. The scythe is classic, but frankly it's been done...to death.

8:40 The more I look at that shot the better it gets. UNWANTED, the worlds smallest violin, the tumbleweed, and all the untouched tear-off bits at the bottom that they didn't even put a number on.

The whistle still give me goosebumps 😳

Happy birthday! and I just wanna say, I understand Goldie. It's not like she didn't love the bears, she just felt out of place. Which wasn't helped by all the teasing Baby had towards her. It might seem they just had their little banter together. But constantly being told "you're no family of mine!" must really cut deep to someone who already feel like they don't belong. You can clearly see during the part at 20:50, when Mama puts her paw on Goldies shoulder, that she truly love them. And she feels guilty for not feeling at home with them. So in her mind she likely feels the bears would be better off without her. But that might be me reading a bit much into it. It's also showed during her speech when she reveals her wish to them. When she says "I'm not a bear" she sounds disappointed in herself. Not to mention how she clutches and almost hides behind her staff. She feels awful for thinking like this. which is why I love their interaction after Jack blows up. Them all hugging and Baby finally calling her "sis"

For those who don’t know a sliver of Spanish: “Hasta la Muerte” means “To the Death”. That’s what Puss in Boots says to the wolf after the fight at the end of the movie.

One of the best things about the movie is that Death kept his word. He saw that Puss started valuing his life, so he let him live.

13:16 - I feel like that sudden silent dropping of the smile is *exactly* what the creators of this movie wanted to see in that moment. 24:04 - The pacing really is uncanny, every time I've seen someone reacting to the movie and they're like "we haven't seen the wolf in a while" or "I hope the wolf shows up again because we haven't seen much of him" another scene takes place. 32:02 - A 5th Shrek movie has been confirmed to be in the works for ages now.

I hope you've had a great birthday! 🎉 This movie is simply spectacular. It has gorgeous animation, top notch fight choreography, an amazing cast of characters, a great arc for Puss, and one of if not the best DreamWorks antagonists ever. That whistle still sends shivers down my spine. I like how, at the start, Puss was bragging about having "never been touched by a blade." So the moment Death was actually able to cut him, Puss became a scared, anxious mess. It's the moment he realized he's not invincible after all.

Someone elsewhere pointed out that Perrito's version of the map is _secretly_ dark: "Pocket Full of Posies" comes from "Ring Around the Rosie," which is about dying from the Plague; "River of Relaxation" is a nod to traveling the River Styx; and "Quick and Easy Solutions" is worst of all, "taking the easy way out." Yikes on bikes, that's grim.

_The Bad Guys_ has a similar animation style and is loads of fun.

You weren't missing much with subtitles off. A lot of the sprinkled Spanish is subtitled as literally "[Speaks in Spanish]" even when it's just one or two words, like "holy frijoles".

I love the wolf aka lobo aka death the whistle is creepy and haunting honestly he gave puss a reality check and woke him up a little. All in all great movie

Since Perrito basically means Puppy in Spanish, it fits the crew’s naming convention

So Perritos map only looks nice because of his personality all of his are death related. Posies are a Ryan about the Black Death. The river is where he was almost drown in. The “easy path” is suicide. But since he is so happy he doesn’t see it that way.

I love how we see another side of Puss in this movie, considering he's my favorite. I also feel like a lot of us can relate. Like if we don't fear anything, we do fear death. Even the bravest of hearts too.

I live downstairs from my mom, I love rubbing her dog's belly. I have two cats and one loves a belly rub when she's in the mood. She has this soft little purr. My senior kitty loves cuddling and rubbing our faces together like when two cats show affection. She's 18 and still loves giving me kisses and sucking on my earlobe. She's very possessive of me, but I wouldn't' have it any other way.

Do you realize that Death is Puss realizing his own mortality and having to face and come to peace with his past. You can never run away from yourself because no matter where you go there you are. Once Puss faces what his lives have been he realizes what he really wants and can move on and live the way he really wants to be. (it is a beautifully told story of life's journey) Great reaction and be well. 😄

I am really really excited for the next film. My assumption is that it is going to be a Shrek film, maybe like a little exposition to see what Shrek has been doing within the time from the last film and to just before Puss reunites with him. My assumption is also that we will see Perrito and Kitty in that film too since it wouldn't make sense for them to just disappear. Hopefully we won't see Puss die as it would be nice to end it with him and Kitty just living out the rest of at least Puss' final life, as I don't know if Kitty is on her last one. Yet Death was just so cool that it would be cool to see him again, maybe they could do it in a joke way. Like Puss and the gang hear the whistle and Puss goes, "what really now?" Death just goes, "Oh hey Puss, no I'm here for this random background character." Or he makes it seem like he is there for him at first, but then just does a 180 just to mess with him.

The animation style is inspired by Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse which originated the idea of the 3d/2d blend. That move is true comic book style, you can pause any frame and it looks like a comic book panel. PiBtLW is more of a water colour style.

New Shrek film in production and so is the next Kung Fu Panda movie with the same director as this film. This had so much in it for both kids and adults. Disney rarely manages a decent sequel. Dreamworks does a sequel to an 11 year old spinoff from a sequel and gives us this. They really set the bar high with this one.

When I first saw this movie, I thought to myself oh my god this is gonna be an antz movie from DreamWorks, looks like for children, but secretly for adults

12:35 - That gold statue would have weighed several tons. I highly doubt even Mr. Incredible could have lifted it in a wheelbarrow, let alone carried it, by himself. And no wooden wheelbarrow would have been able to hold it.

when perrito was introduced i thought i would hate his character cuz i thought he was gonna be another typical comic relief character, but perrito ended up being one of my favorite characters in the movie

Fun fact: Jack Horner's Death is a reference to Terminator

I think the movie was great, the only thing I would have loved was a slightly longer final battle scene with death. I really loved the fighting scenes and death's character, so seeing a slightly longer battle would've been great.

"...this wolf character... real good..." Now go back and watch again... because he's there more than you think. >:) Okay, to help, when the video is panning over the crowd cheering for Puss, he's standing in the back of the crowds in an alley. Then go back to where Puss was recounting the times he died, and each time a card comes up with the number of that death... look in all four corners of those cards. "...the mommy bear and the daddy bear don't share a bed, they each have their own..." They're from the 1950s. ... Kidding! More like the 1850s. That's when the 'Goldilocks' version of the story appeared (or, well, the precursor, who had silver hair, she wouldn't _become_ 'Goldilocks' until 1904, well after the switch to golden hair). Before that, the intruder was an old woman who was kicked out of her home by her family for being awful, and the three bears weren't related, there was just a small one, a mid-sized one, and a large one, all three were male. The change to them being a family happened... somewhere between 1852 and 1878, depending on who you ask. Watching you cover your mouth _exactly_ the way Kitty Softpaws did when _she_ heard the story of Perrito was... awesome. :) "...I love her skirt..." Now keep track of it... and how it changes through the movie. Also, while in Nostalgia Pines, pause when they show you the book with the story in it. Consider what the story is supposed to be about, what the map said it was about, and then read the first letter of each line of that book. "...this seems like really scary for a kid..." It's rated PG for a reason. Try Gremlins, Beetlejuice, Jaws, or Poltergeist. _All_ of those are rated PG. Kids need horror stories, too. "...I'm never gonna get over this animation style..." Try "Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse". Same style, and the movie was good enough to get a sequel. "...the wolf character is terrifying..." Yep. Exactly as he should be. He's the ultimate villain... and yet unavoidable, only delayed, but also not malicious. Nice reaction! I have a whole list of movies that I love watching reactions to, and this is one of them. :) Have a nice day!
