the refusal of Britain and the United States to fight in Europe is most likely connected with the treaty between Germany and England in 1941. It was also advantageous for England that the USSR and Germany weaken each other in the war. And England joined the battle when the USSR had already defeated the German troops and was advancing on Europe. The Hess case and negotiations with him, the UK was classified for another 50 years last year!

Recognised with thanks by medals from the USSR to Merchant and other seamen which for years the British government refused them to accept, one of my relatives served on the Murmansk run and was always treated royally by the Russians, finally getting his awards from Russia in the 1990's. Fun fact: Aircraft destroyed in combat didn't have to be repaid. But Russia had to pay the United States (and the UK, respectively) for each aircraft that was still operational at the end of the war. This explains a lot of the tanks, trucks and aircraft that are being dug up here and there...

Take that even the outcome of fights between Octavius (Augustus) against Antonius and Cleopatra influenced American history as the Old World had developed differently, like a lot of other historic decisions.
