I can listen to Pep Escobar for hours, it's holistic, a journey from history to the present, between civilizations. Didn't understand until I listened to Pepe how important honor, values, respect and history are in Asia and West Asia in particular. Pepe Escobar is a writer, brilliant and one of the few analysts who dares to define "national character". France's leadership does not reflect its people, which is the case throughout the EU. He sees the painful US control damage, and defends the Italian, German, French family eager for peace and relative prosperity.
Pepe has Britain slightly wrong but I can understand why. He summed up the establishment pretty well, but missed the point that they are almost universally despised by the people. Dissenting voices aren't sent to do hard labour in a gulag but they are crushed & silenced more effectively than anywhere I can think of. The political/corporate/media landscape in the UK is entirely sewn up.

After peak cheap oil in the 80's when everyone in the West lived well, the system ran on cheap money via banking industry. Now it's hit the wall and energy rich countries Russia Iran with China, can possibly overturn this banking hegemony (UK USA based).
In USA, oil prices peaked '79-'80, did not decline until Reagan made agreement with House of Saud (think 2nd admin) to moderate prices, which (I think) then decreased through early 2000s. Then prices rose to peak again (2006-2008?), and were elevated until directional drilling combined with (hydro)fracing allowed exploitation of the remaining reserves in the Permian, and tight oil and gas in many other places (ca 2014-present).

This inflation in energy (and cost of living) was counterbalanced by decreasing interest on money, so that costly extraction of oil was possible. Now this is no longer possible.
