Well said. If Ukraine had progressed in the Euros and played England, I would have had a dilemma. Cheer for my country, England, or cheer for the heroic country, Ukraine.
Thank you to Gen R Jones. A great methodical speaker. History repeating it self all over again. You can't sit around the table with a dictator like Putin. My heart goes out to Ukraine 🇺🇦
Unless Russian dollars are being funneled into your campaign. Just like America, England has its MEGA, and they have more in common with Putin than they do with their neighbors.
I loved it when Gen Jones described Farage as an apologist for Putin. My one criticism is, I don't think Farage is ignorant of or naive about history when he calls for negotiation with Putin. He is just utterly cynical and does not care about Ukraine. In a sense, Farage is worse than Trump. I suspect Trump is ignorant - not much of an excuse, but better than being as malign as Farage.
Both of them are danger for EU safety. And many EU politicians like Orban, Fico, and others. What they do is not a being cynical, its collecting preferences, as they dont know any other way. Politicaly upset, poor and uneducated people will happily vote for them, that is already a proven pattern.
Its WRONG to put restrictions upon someone who defend its self, who been unprovoked attacked..its WRONG in every way, shape and form..you go Ukraine! Stay strong, united and NEVER give up! Slava Ukraini🇺🇦💯🇸🇪👍
foolish person. If that were the case then America would not have sent any weapons because the first tomahawk they get would be aimed at the kremlin and start WW III. Life is more complex than you seem to think and decisions need to be more nuanced.
The Ruzzkies want a peace agreement, so I have one I bet my life Ukraine will accept. Pull out all military and stop their support of the Donetsk and Luhansk separatists. Btw, about the video, an unspecified amount of aid has already reached the battlefield BUT let's say it's 40%. Then by the time the rest trickles in, their new fighter jets will also be in the air AND they'll be getting money from Ruzzie's illegal funds (via interest) as well. Also, to the commander, a big part of why NATO exists was bc of the massive Soviet stockpiles; I'm sure he knows that but didn't mention it. The Ruzzkies have lost about 45-60% of their stockpiled important items, except nukes (which may very well not work). Lastly, the US spends 1.3T annually on defense and intel.
B-but russians do have the best/most technologically advanced cars (Lada Kalina & Uaz Bukhanka) the most hypersonic hypersonic missiles and the ultimate honour of subserviently submitting to the dearest dear leader on the planet 🤯💪🇷🇺💪
It is always most interesting to listen to Major General Rupert Jones. He has such a realistic and level-headed perspective on the situation in Ukraine as well as, with respect to geopolitics, generally. What a pity you cannot have him as your Prime Minister. Incidentally, his criticism of Farage is spot on. I agree, when the music stops, Ukraine should be dominant.
As a former naval officer of 30 odd years l keep an eye on developments in Ukraine with some insight. Jones' analysis is bloody superb and free from the armchair expert opinions that seem to push to the front of the queue these days. l will be keeping an eye out for him from now on. We need to get Ukraine to prevail for a whole lot of reasons that most don't seem to understand.
@@frankstonrat This war, like all wars has forced the rapid development of technology by one side or both. ln particular as a set-piece action with conventional forces vs conventional forces that we haven't seen for a very long time. it really is a 'battle lab' in real time (horrible though that is for those involved). To me, Ukraine has been amazingly adept at battlefield manoeuvre, learning as they go and adapting existing and emerging technologies to their advantage. 'Drone boats' and other remotely operated vehicles are nothing new and have been part of most advanced nations military S&T/R&D efforts for some time, but are generally in my understanding not at the front of capital equipment acquisition. However the fact of the success of Ukraine without a navy to speak of achieving 'Sea Control' (a key element of western maritime doctrine) in the Black Sea with this technology alone is nothing short of astonishing and will be causing a massive rethink amongst all maritime powers. While there will be for the foreseeable a need for capital ships and their escorts in 'bluewater' operations, the success of the Ukrainians in the more littoral environment of the Black Sea, l am sure will have many military planners around the place on the scramble, because their adversaries are watching just as closely. Sorry about the lengthy reply. Cheers
I've been following this at a ground level quite closely. Podcasts from soldiers etc It doesn't seem anyone can win this war and that Putin will settle for the Donbas

The most ironic thing about those IT folks running the bot farms is that the moment UA wins and Ruzzia falls apart, they will be the FIRST people streaming into the west claiming they have extensive IT experience and can quickly find jobs. Hopefully we can find jobs for them all at The Hague.
Thank you to both gentlemen for this interview. Lately it seems there're more and more things that almost but not quite add up. I find myself saying, "Oh. I must have missed something " more often than I did a year ago. Thanks to these gentlemen I now realize there are pieces missing, certain actions taken are not compatible with stated goals, people who ostensibly should know better turn out not to, etc., etc. I feel better now. Thanks again.
Brilliant expose on military code of honour, thank you - and excellent reminder for our global (aspiring) politicians. Taking a moral stance may not be hard, holding it however, may seem too hard for many.
I doubt any of his successors has political might to withstand against the wave of Russian nationalism if they choose to announce the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. Therefore, unless Putin is actually pushed to accept peace with a gun at his temple, there will not be peace not from Putin, nor from his successors.
The decision by (most likely) the very top at the kremlin (and not the ru MoD) to open up the Northern Front in kharkiv will go down in History as one of the dumbest decisions ever made. Much like Germany's decision to open up the Eastern front on June 22nd, 1941. But just like Germany's Circle of Power in 1941, ru in 2024 is a State which has a smaller and smaller circle of Decision Makers. instead, a bunch of "yes man" more than willing to say... "Yes, My F"! All while bringing pastries for that morning meeting...
@@Durnyful By opening the (disastrous) Northern Front, ru did this: 1) Quasi doubled their frontlines. 2) Pushed the West to change its Policies for the use of Western weapons within ru. Which is giving the AFU more leeway. 3) the ru MoD lost (so far), more than 15,000 troops.

Always a good listen when Rupert Jones is on. Thanks for calling out the comments of Farage, hope he looses a lot more votes. Trouble is there is nobody to vote FOR. One thing that can be said of the current Mob, at least they have been staunch in supporting Ukraine. That will heavily influence whom I vote for .

Where were the lies in what Farage commented . I do not agree with all those young men being killed ,on both sides . Artillery shell numbers are not the be all and end all. The M777 Howitzer, as used by the Ukraine military, fires Excalibur shells that have a circular error probable of 5m at a range of 24Km. This means that most targets are destroyed in the first or second shot. Russian artillery is experiencing extensive barrel wear and the shells from North Korea are of indifferent quality. As a result, Russia fires hundreds of shells to achieve what Ukraine can achieve with two Excalibur shells. It will be a long time before the USA is involved in any kind of land battle in which Excalibur shells would have any meaningful effect, so the USA holding them back as an ‘insurance policy’ would be folly when Ukraine is already using them so effectively to degrade the capability of the USA’s greatest potential adversary.
Sorry but you’re deluded. The Excalibur rounds are worth something like $100k each versus less than $1k for a regular Russian 152mm round, so the calculus just doesn’t stack up even before you get to the issue of availability and effectiveness. On the point of availability and effectiveness, the US even admitted in May that they gave up sending Excalibur shells to Ukraine because they were largely ineffective due to GPS jamming…
There's a reason almost every country that used to be behind the iron curtain chose to join NATO. Once you've been dominated by Russia you want to ensure that can't happen again. Countries freely choose to join NATO. None of them freely chose to join the Warsaw Pact, they were forced to. This say everything you need to know. Russia doesn't get to decide whether other countries choose to be independent or join NATO.
If people knew their history they would know that Ukraine was a sovereign state long before the rise of the Rus. But people don’t read history any more. History and Science are the most important areas for people to study. Science because we advance and create better societies through innovation and history because if we learn from the past we might find wisdom not to make the same mistakes over and over again.
Exactly. The earliest mention of Kyiv we have is from 456AD. The earliest of Moscow is 1147AD. Despite all the bluster to the contrary, Moscovian Rus is the youngest (or close to it) 'Slavic Brother '.
Honestly this argument in itself is absolutely dumb Even if there was no "historical" Ukraine - ALL states are "ARTIFICIAL", because ALL states are MAN MADE. Ironically Russia is currently defining the Ukrainian identity, forging it through war and hatred of Russia. Back before 2014 Ukraine had no issue with speaking or "being" Russian.
They say a war is won by its army. I am surprised it has gone on this long considering that the Russian soldiers are not defending their country just keeping themselves alive. Their moral must be very low.

Maj Gen Jones like many others is now dissmissing Russian escalation threat. He says Russia doesnt have red lines but qualifies it with 'never say never'. Strategic defeat of Russis is its red line. It could be a massive bluff but it seems we are now ready to support Ukraine enough to find out, from not losing to winning.
One point which I've only seen mentioned a few times is the reluctance of western Europe to acknowledge that when it comes to things Russian, Poland, Finland, and the Baltics are the experts.
Where are these "quite big gains" exactly? The Russians have achieved pretty much nothing since the Kharkiv front opened. ln fact they're slowly losing ground there at the moment. Are they claiming otherwise on Russian TV? Is that before or after they celebrate the capture of the same tiny village for the fifth time?
I think a big problem for Ukraine is that they can't really count on their allies to keep the supply's coming on a dependable schedule, so they'll have to stockpile enough to be certain they won't run out mid-offensive.
Which is why long term, stable commitment is key. Some countries have pledged supplies, weapons and ammo at a steady rate for several years into the future. All Ukrainian allies should strive towards doing this. It also sends a strong signal that we are in this for the long run, which may influence Russian decisions regarding fighting; if there is no light at the end of the tunnel they may be less likely to try and outlast the west.
Jones is wrong about stockpiles, the USA has massive stockpiles. They are required by law, what has been sent to Ukraine is the %5 overstock. If conditions were met where the USA could release munitions and weapons from main inventory, this would be over in a few months.
This conversation is surreal. I want negotiations, not the death of us all. There are only 2 ways a war ends. These people want the worst option. The man that sent my grand father a letter to thank him for his resistance work, warned for this. Now, with the same name as my grand father, I need to protect my dearest against his fellow power sick countrymen. It is sickening.
Having explained that the Kharkiv salients drew off Ukrainian troops to allow Russia to attack elsewhere, he then says Russia has not attacked elsewhere. He seems totally unaware of what has been happening all along the line of contact over the last few weeks.
19:32 Who told you Ukros has to proove anything ? Even Rossia aproved douvereignity of Ukros. But any souvereign nation shouuld not act agains other nation souvereinginty. WORD is NATION.....PPL.
Russian munitions production is exceptionally high however artillery attrition is also quite high. Additionally ... with the United States in the process of retiring its A-10s, wouldn't it be smart to train Ukrainian pilots on the platform?
A10's really need fairly uncontested air space in which to operate effectively. Whilst you can get away with strafing insurgents, which I guess its where most of its reputation came from, entering air space of two nations locking horns it a whole new ball game.
When they are sending our equipment to them we are also replacing the older equipment for our troops. And more production and jobs. The money alotted doesn't go to the country involved it is to replace the equipment that is sent to help in the fighting. We end up with new munitions and equipment.
That is, now you yourself admit that this business is built on the suffering of other people involved in conflicts. All you care about is monetary income and benefits.)
$60 billion is flowing to Ukraine, about 7 billion was for presidential draw-downs, which goes directly to Ukraine. The rest was more indirect, for example for US support forces, replacement equipment for the US, long term orders for Ukraine etc.

If Farage is making such statements in order to capitalise on them politically, that means that such sentiments exist within the broad strata of the British public, in which case they should be taken into account and external policy should be tailored in accordance with them. Brushing them aside is undemocratic and is a display of disdain of the ruling class to a large segment of the electorate.
Well done! Farage is just a mouth piece, like Trump, no substance with a 'Little Englander' mentality. His stance over Putin is disgusting. It's people like him that help to keep the Imperialist Tsar on this destructive course.
It's a quagmire on par with WWI, complete with trench warfare. It's a stalemate and it's going to stay like this until one side hits the limit and seems to implode all at once. Just keep in mind, this war is the Russians to lose and they're probably going to take the win at the cost of several generations of young men.

How would him commanding a brigade in Iraq make a difference? He didn't come up with the strategy. He didn't determine to go in. By your logic, no US or UK General is a military expert despite being involved in the military for 35 years!! Meanwhile, I bet you buy all of the propaganda from Russian 'experts' who launched a far more disastrous mission in Ukraine than the US/UK did in Iraq.
Agreed. Jones' only demonstrated military achievement was the drawing down of the UK Army into a small, hollow force not capable of waging war on a large scale. He's a disgrace to the uniform.
Iraq was not (militarily speaking) a "debacle." The Iraqi Army and Air Force were obliterated in the space of two months. The planning of the politicians for management of Iraq post-victory was imperfect, by that has nothing to do with Gen. Jones' merits.

Surely this supposed General must know that the Kharkiv offensive was merely designed to take Ukrainian troops away from the main front, thus allowing Russia to make the considerable advances it has. Perhaps he sees his job as merely offering false encouragement to Ukraine's supporters though?
That's LITERALLY the very first thing he said... He then goes on to explain that it hasn't worked. And define "considerable"? Ukraine's retaking of Kharkiv THAT was considerable Ukraine's retaking if Kherson above the Dnipro River, THAT was considerable. Russia hasn't taken considerable territory since the initial months of the war. They've crawled forward here and there but there's certainly been no massive powerful push through Ukrainian defenses.
