My 300CE W124 Mercedes had a cloth interior.. beloved by some but not by me. Leather makes a huge difference to the way these cars feel and in this video I am swapping out the whole interior and changing the very scratched glass!!
That interior does make it look so much better and the transformation this car has gone thru is epic. Hopefully the "Bismerc" stays around for a while.
Amazing - the interior looks fantastic. With a bit of leather filling and re-dye it will be mint !! Love these longer vids where we get to see exactly what work is involved to get to the finished result 🙂
I had a W124T (manual) when my first child was born with a cloth interior pretty much like yours. Subsequently I have had an S210, S211 and my current S212, all autos and crucially all leather. Kids and cloth seats do not go together, leather looks and feels much more high end. The bismerc looks superb now.
Usually those vertical scratches are done by dirty, dust and/or sand contaminated exterior dew squeegees. Have a look. Unfortunately, you would have to remove again the glasses to clean or change them... Duh. 😳
For really cheap you can buy a set of plastic panel pullers and wedges etc and save on using metal screw drivers etc on plastic parts. Looks so much better after the change.
Congratulations on the amazing transformation of your Merc Jack!! I hated it when you first bought it but so glad you did, you've given this car a new new life!! It's really a timeless and classy car. Look forward to seeing it with new tail lights and grille etc😊👍
:Love these longer, detailed videos; they make you feel as if you're part of a nice days tinkering. It's the taking things apart and figuring out how to restore stuff that makes it so interesting and your manner of presenting is always fun to watch.
Great vid Jack, your perseverance is definitely paying off, the whole car is such an amazing transformation compared to its original state, you must be proud of the car now. Your vids are perfect lengths and very informative, don't change the formula you got it just right. 👍👍
Jack, I reckon you're getting attached to your Bulgarian taxi... I do like the cloth interior, it's cool and hard wearing but even I must admit it does lift the interior. Thanks for showing the centre vent removal as I need to do mine on my 190E. Loved the video BTW!!
Oh wow! Looks so much better Jack…i was a bit dubious about you changing the cloth as it was very vintage Merc but the leather lifts the lux level matey.
I like seeing you discovering and dealing with the problems as they arise, as opposed to cutting them out and acting like it was all a piece of cake. The leather is much better!
I have to confess that I was in the ‘leave the cloth trim in’ camp, but seeing that leather interior, I’m convinced you’ve done the right thing. I’m also really glad that you thoroughly vacced the carpet after removing the seats…failure to do so would have really triggered my OCD!
Great video. I was one of the advocates for doing the leather interior. And I was looking forward seeing the (cream-colored?) interior installed. But you're quite right. Grey was the way to go. Well done.
Wow, the old girl looks amazing Jack. Brilliant effort. Great video too - I love seeing the trials and tribulations you endure to get to the end goal. 😀
Well done! I do love the old Mercedes cloth seats, specially when they're not faded or damaged, but I agree that leather is on another level. Good thing your interior is grey, because those seats in black leather get really toasty in the Summer... The only thing I'd do more on the interior is remove the black wrap that is still on that thin piece of wood trim that runs across the whole dash, just above the steering wheel.
You helped me understand how to replace the “triangle” trim piece between the rear side windows and the shoulder belt housing! Now I can replace the nasty one on my otherwise very nice C124 Sportline. OctoClassic makes the parts using 3D printing.
I've always heard good things about the kits from the furniture clinic, they tend to know what colours are correct for each car by brand and age. The leather really has lifted the car, top job! Shame about the glass.
I always recommend leather. Ironically I've only had it in one car, till now, in my old 2nd hand 1986 Metro Vanden Plas. Cream leather seats, walnut dash, electric windows, I thought I was the shizz :) All my other cars have had cloth interior until my Ssangyong Tivoli. It's reminded me why I love leather. Definitely makes you feel better and lifts the car to a luxury level.
Well Jack I was that guy saying keep the cloth interior but I was wrong! The leather does suit the stately vibe of the Bismerc , I thought the length of your video was great Jack ……. I’m sure everyone enjoys watching your content so more is always good! Any chance of adding smellavison so we can all have a sniff of the Bismerc’s interior? 😂👍
Big productive day Jack. I was hoping for the beige interior as it is my preference too but the grey was the wiser choice and it was a big boost. Going to be a challenge to let this one go once it's fighting fit. I really liked the longer format myself.
Thank you! This is amazing. I was looking for this kind of a tutorial for a loooong time! 100% best video on how to take c124 interior apart! I have problems with scratches on rear window on my c124 (facelift model) and now I know how to fix it all thanks to YOU dear sir. Thanks!
You have taken this car 10,000 miles forward! Definitely a keeper do not decide to sell it unless you are going to give it away to one of your favourite subscribers 😜
Well done Jack it's no fun taking out a car interior as a a car valeting buissness owner I have done it many times to in the past it's seems now people are keeping their cars better here in Ireland but it was always a achievement to have a dirty back to showroom so well done
Despite the video being around 5 month's time frame, but the assembly of the interior for leather seats on the Mercedes does make a major difference. 10/10 stars vid!!!
Totally agree with you - and every other commenter: looks like the car you'd want to own! Great vid, mate - and the length is fine - tbh happy to watch for longer when you're fighting a fix... cheers
That looked an incredibly fiddly job but the end result is fantastic. Well worth all that hard work and the video didn't feel too long, but then it never does watching other people work :-)
You can get a product to polish the marks out on the glass to look like new. Worth a look!! Great watching the transformation, keep up the good work. 👍😁
Nice one jack you really have rescued this dream car of mine from a possible bad end if I didn’t have cancer I would have been desperate to buy it from you
