time to flesh out something that will never ever happen! first, we take four's pallet, and rename it 'captain's palette', in which it's the same it's just that instead of it being four's, it's the captain, and we remove parallel canon, switch it for another big machine like the rollie boy and the cone. like make a square, like that we have a circle, a triangle, and a square. when unlocking the last locker thingy, you get eight's pallet, and four's pallet. and while eight's pallet is all about how you must keep your hacks in order with a low amount, four's the opposite, it goes full chaos mode, it picks 10 hacks at random (always 3 lives though), and each level has a random main, sub, and special. (good luck picking a strat when your loadout's always changing), but you can't get upgrades that only affect one weapon, like the color chip that just lock your brella's shield, or the mid-shot-charge of the splatling, as well as increasing the chances of danger levels, and bonus levels. also you can't buy specials or subs during a run with four's. now, what i think would be funny, is making three custom bosses! first, 'Overture lancer', a mimic of captain three (it use the hairstyle from the main story mode). it would, like parallel canon, be a machine, but, unlike parallel canon, i was thinking more of a chase, where you'd have to wear them down multiple times, each times super jumping to the next platform, being a very obvious throw back to Octavio's chase during the first game. i chose Overture because it's a musical term for 'An instrumental composition that introduces a longer work', and i think with agent three kickstarting the serie's story mode, it's only fair it's imitation has that title. then, we have our new and improved 'parallel canon', this one being , quite literally, a parallel to you, using the same weapon as you, and having the same color chips as you. each of the three phases, you get another kit, forcing you to adapt. and fast. and, at last, at the 30th floor, instead of order, you have a brain-washed four, sitting on the ground, waiting for you. and they. are. merciless. you'll have to struggle through 4 phases, with each one they have a saturation with strength, then movement, then range, then support. you CAN use marina to continue on four's run. but it cost a lot more than average. once you manage to kick their ass, you'll unlock them as playable. note that after finishing four's palette, their palette becomes normal again, simply being two normal boss fights and then overlorder. if you want to go through this challenge again, there'll be a box next to the elevator (like the first accession box and the first boss fight box) four plays very similar to 8, with the difference that instead of being accompanied by marina and pearl, they'll simply be with acht. (which means more lore with acht), they can turn off and on hacks since by the time you clear it smoll husk would've already been beat at least 10 times, which means he does not care anymore and you can just open up a menu without rina's help on like, a watch that was given to four when they were brain-washed. instead of pearl drone color chips, they'd have a special 'cheats' color chips, the color of said chips being white (the opposite of the black ink order uses), the 'cheat's essentially being upgrades that go against the rules, which have effects like hacks sometimes (more cash per level, cheaper stuff at the vending machine, etc) or just straight-up cheats (low-life, which make enemies spawn already damaged, calm, which make gelatons take longer to get angry, or invisibility, which force gelatons to be close enough to see you if you're in your ink, where they'll just wander around if they can't see you. etc...) well, that's that, enjoy reading a text-wall. if you read it all... thanks?
Wow I feel like everything you said exactly points out what I think has been missing in side order. Boss variety, a secret(ish) final boss and more Acht lore!
Maybe they could either use a specific weapon to counter the player’s weapon? For example, if you use a close range weapon, Agent 4 would counter it with a long range weapon and vise versa? Of course with the multiple weapon switches, the player would have to either stick to what the have, or they would also be able to switch weapons for certain floors? Could be a good way to have a callback to Octo Canyon’s hero weapons like you said before, going full circle.
The Girl From Inkopolis? NAH We already got her safe and sound. The Squid from the Square. They deserve much more love. Edit: Agent 4 and Drone Marina would be something to behold though lmao! Just imagine. Side Order is out right but Nintendo would be like WAVE 3 DLC Side Order+ lol that would be amazing!
My head cannon is that Marie was too scared agent 4 would be traumatized and hurt like agent 3 (splatoon 1 not 3) was and kept her from doing more missions like that. Now she’s just Marie & the rest of the crew’s lil bean

Wait idea: You play as agent 4 in the tutorial, but instead of escaping only Marina Pearl and acht escape. Order takes agent 4 because they beat them Agent 4 as a semi final boss known as “Orders protector” as a parallel to the agent 3 boss fight before fighting tartar After you clear the spiral once, agent 4 joins your team and you can swap between them and 8 Hell they could even make a hack that lets the agent your not using be a npc to help you but as a nerf you can’t use Pearl drone
Idea: The First Climb goes as normal, but the first boss you fight on 10f in the next spire is corrupted agent 4. After you defeat Agent 4 their mask flies off and Agent 8, Acht, Pearl and Marina rush to help them up, and in the next level Agent 4 gets their hero suit back (but a white version) and helps Agent 8 from this point onward.
Agent 4 NEEDS MORE love and appreciation!! I thought Four was going to be in Side Order and I was disappoint that they didn't show up. (I know they were kinda in SO; but I meant like how Old Agent 3 showed up in Octo Expansion.)
I like how you said "Hypothetically, Order saw Agent 4's potential and decided to use that for their own goals.", but if you complete the Spire with Four's Palette and read Smollusk's notes, you'll learn that that's exactly what happened. Does anyone ever read that?! Great artwork, by the way! And don't worry! I'm writing a story involving Agent 4 in Side Order that proposes a big change to the way the game is played!
Funny thing is that I made agent 3 black in the game, and was surprised to see it pased on to three as a black captain. Love nintendos attention to customization detail!
The lack of focus with Agent 4 upon the conclusion of Octo Canyon is one reason why I had run with the theory that Agent 4 had a quiet retirement from agent work after all was said and done. They'd still keep up with Marie once in a while, but the mission at Octo Canyon was ultimately their last. I ran with this until Side Order.
i honestly really really love agent 4, they are silly and i identify with them alot due to their hairstyle and splat 2 being the first splatoon game i ever played
I thought of a third option for agent 4 using your playable character outfit. She gets stranded on floor five because she heard Marina and went into the elevator before Acht did. They do mention that the elevator goes down if nobody's in it. So agent 4 becomes an upgrade and occasionally super jumps to use a random special kind of like with the disc. Acht, Pearl, and Marina translates for agent 4 like how Callie and Marie translates for Captain 3. And outside the tower, you can change her lookup and also slightly squid party with her because she 100% slightly copies you. So if you're in "swim" form long enough she'll go into swim form. Also agent 4 flat out hates Parallel Cannon. Complete dislike for that boss, 0/10, and makes it known. Why is she there? She hadn't heard any updates about the Memverse and was just checking in, but got suck in. She was hired to be a security guard for the place.
These are such cool ideas, along with some adorable art designs ❤. I also wish Agent 4 could have been utilized better in Side Order. What we got was better than nothing at all, but there was some real missed potential. But hey, maybe instead of them being playable/a boss in the Spire, perhaps Agent 4 could go on a new adventure. Yes, I'm on copium, and no this won't happen. But if I may, let me dream a little... This new adventure could be called *Parallel Chaos* or something silly like that. As the agent Marina chose to lead Memverse security, 4 would help Agent 8, Pearl and Marina behind the scenes, _parallel_ to their adventure as it were. Imagine if in order for Agent 8 to reconfigure the Palettes and restore all the lost inkling and octoling souls, Agent 4 first has to find them and upload them to the Control Room. Remember how the subconscious desires and wishes of the Memverse engineers created new life forms like Smollusk and Cipher? Now imagine if they unconsciously created a digital world based on their memories separate from Marina's Order Sector. I mean Cipher came into being without Marina's knowledge (based on her dialogue about it), so this isn't too implausible, right? In their new adventure, 4 would explore data versions of the classic Octo Valley stages and Amiibo challenge levels from Splatoon 1. These levels are created from the memories of the Octoling engineers previously under Octavio's rule. This could be a means to bring those classic levels back but with new twists and changes. It's here where Agent 4 would find and free the lost soul fragments of all the inklings and octolings affected by Order. Furthermore, this campaign could develop Agent 4's character through their very own Agent Diaries, special notes similar to 8's mem cakes which you gain by defeating certain numbers of enemies, finding secrets and finishing levels. As a tough challenge, the especially powerful souls would become Palette Avatars, incredibly difficult but fun bosses based on the Palettes. This way, you'd have special boss versions of Callie, Marie, Deep Cut, Off the Hook, Sheldon, Octavio, and Murch. (*SPOILER WARNING*) Remember at the end of the first successful Spire Run where Order grayscaled everything, but Agent 8 came back through the power of music? What if that was Agent 4 bringing 8 back? Like let's say they were able to avoid Order's grayscaling program (insert technical reason here). Then in a special final level, there is a rhythmic platforming course where they jump and shoot obstacles to the beat of the music. By destroying the obstacles, they bypass Overlorder's greyscaling program and put music into 8's mind, thus waking them the others up. It's basically Squid Beats making a comeback as an obstacle course. And so both agents would save the day, working together through two parallel adventures. Once you've 100% completed all levels, you unlock the ultimate challenge: *Inner Agent 8.* This is the most brutal boss fight Splatoon has ever seen, and it'll take everything you've learned to get you through. Defeating IA8 frees Agent 8's Palette, you earn a Platinum Toothpick, and you feel like the freshest squid around. I know this almost certainly won't ever happen, but I can dream though 😂!
I think it will be cool if they made agent 4 like a secret boss fight that you can only unlock by doing a off color mochrome run with his pallete also you need to fill out the pallete before fighting lil squiddle
I think it would be a lot cooler if the boss fight would differentiate depending on who you choose! (Meaning if 8 was chosen you would have the Agent 4 boss fight but if you choose 4 you would have to fight 8 instead!)
In my canon 4 is actually in the memverse too, but got brainwashed, and 8’s mission is to find 4, mostly because 4 is my favorite agent. It’s like this for my ocs too, other stuff happens too.
Agent 4 really was underutilized in Side Order, I’m hoping Nintendo will do more with them in Splatoon 4. Also, I found it just a little hard to hear your voice over the music, but besides that I loved the video!
I really wish they were playable. I find it strange how there’s no Inkling option. And it’s not like the story can’t be mainly about Eight. But it’d be nice to have another character in the elevator. Give them some personality.
I don’t remember cuttlefish ever saying something like that. Every splatoon game the Agent protagonist is a different inkling/Octoling in the universe when you play story mode. I believe that theory came to light before splat 3’s release but it was quickly debunked. At the end of the day every agent was some rando in the street that happened to stumble on the deeper history and story of the world they thought they knew.
