Putting Maps on top of each other in Paper Mario: The Origami King

What would happen if you put the Scorching Sandpaper Desert into the Great Sea in Paper Mario: The Origami King? What would happen if you put King Olly's throne room into Picnic Road? What if you could walk around the maps that are reserved for battles? Could we bring a boat to Shogun Studios? Today, we put maps on top of other maps, we replace some map files with other map files, viewing the cosmetic changes that occur, and we answer these questions and more!
We do these experiments with maps including Picnic Road, Diamond Island, Shogun Studios, the Battle Lab, Autumn Mountain, the Great Sea, Scuffle Island, Hammer Island, Heart Island, ?-Island, Mushroom Island, Big Sho Theater, Full Moon Island, Spade Island, Bonehead Island, King Olly's Throne Room, and more!

Ever since I beat this game I've always wanted to see a full world map. The game only provides chapter specific maps and id be interested in seeing someone put them all together

That's a really cool idea! We can view individual maps with the program Toolbox, and I wonder how the maps would fit together or if they would overlap/ have missing spots! I'll have to look into that, thanks so much for the comment :D Have a great day!

Really cool stuff! Looks like you're able to select any of the maps in the game. And if that's the case, I'm really curious: while scrolling through maps to fuse, did you ever come across any unused maps? The game seems very complete when it comes to battle maps, having one for every situation. But still, is there ant unused maps for the overworld or battle maps that you could find?

Great question! I was hoping there might be some unused maps, and I haven't looked through every single map file yet, but of the map files that I did check, I haven't come across anything unusual yet It'd definitely be a cool video topic to find some unused maps if there are any!

@@ZXMany I'd say that would make for a very cool idea for a livestream: 2 or 3 hours of just looking at maps from the game. Even if you don't find anything new, it will still be fun to look at them from a new perspective!

1:23 suppose Olly was a bit of a slob in the past trying to perfect the folded styles of the vellumentals (as seen in the first phase of the final boss) some through trial and error and some with failed attempts of mastery Lol I wonder why they didn't use the light, wind and dark elemental vellumentals... Of course, like paper, origami will last for a long time (unless we have 'snip, snip' in the way!)! There are no ages for the characters in the game overall. P.S. I tried the no guard challenge and some battles can be won without using guard (unless it's needed to avoid IN.KO), it's just time consuming overall... (Just need to test them in the boss simulator to be sure)

I’m just curious, do you know if it’s possible to swap a character (maybe a regular toad or even an important character) with an enemy? If it’s possible, could you fight them, or interact with them like the original character would? It’s okay if you don’t know. I’m just wondering.

I guess reality truly can be whatever you want... Fantastic video, I particularly liked how Mushroom island can show the other directions or the swapped maps, it'd be cool to see more maps from the opposite direction to see just how much is modelled. Also I feel like I'm out of the loop, did you swap Mario's sprites for Princess Peach's? That's great haha Edit: One thing that just came to mind, the sumo bros. contain multiple enemies during the same boss fight. So how would boss fights work if you added in those enemies, and is there a limit if that works? Also can the "Stoney Sheety Cutty" be used in other battles? I am really curious. :0

Thankfully maps don't have animations like characters do, so swapping swaps (without swapping objects in the maps) just results in fun glitchy messes or interesting combinations!

Hey there! I don't sell any mods, I don't think it would be legal for someone to sell mods of a game that is owned by Nintendo! Nintendo is the company that's likely most-known for taking down fan games That said, there is a modding community of Paper Mario, and there are some fan-made Paper Mario games that have been made/ are being made! Hopefully nobody is selling fan-made games, people could run into legal trouble quickly if they do that!
