In this video, we will be exploring the key specifications of the PVC Industrial Swing Non-Return Valves, also known as Backwater Valves. These valves play an important role in preventing backflow in low-pressure or drainage systems. For example, preventing the reverse flow of stormwater through drains, sewage systems, or preventing contamination from untreated water in a water treatment plant.
One benefit of these valves is the access point into the top of the valve. This allows you to easily access the inside of the valve to clean it out or remove debris. The inner section of the valve including the flap, can also easily be removed and is a replaceable part.
Now let’s look at the specifications.
- PVC Industrial Swing Non-Return Valves are available in three sizes: 50mm, 80mm, and 100mm. It’s important to note, these valves are designed to connect onto PVC pressure pipe so if you are installing a DWV or stormwater pipeline an adaptor will be required.
- The valve body is constructed from PVC type 1 which is renowned for its durability, a commonly used grade of PVC that conforms to the American standard ASTM D 1784.
- The valve flap is made from EPDM rubber with a PVC support for added durability.
- The access cap O-ring is also made from EPDM rubber.
- Each valve features an external arrow flow indicator, for easy identification of the direction of flow.
- Being designed for low-pressure applications, this valve carries a pressure rating of PN3 and has a working temperature of 4°C to 40°C. It is crucial to note that this pressure rating will be de-rated at elevated temperatures.
