Utah - it's Nov. 2023. I bought the exact hole saw plus 1/4-20 tap bit you demonstrate in this video. Tonight I hollowed out 4 PVC tee fitings plus drilled and tapped them, for the first time ever. Also tested each hole with a 1/4 bolt. It all works exactly as shown in the video. The T fittings slide smoothly, but are rock solid when bolted tight.Thank you! I couldn't have gotten this far without the guidance shown here. Much appreciated, and I can't wait to see what I can make! -Dan

Hi Dan, I appreciate you letting me know how your project came out. I love hearing from folks. If you watch my last video I posted on a number of projects I have made, you will see the upgrade I have made to the stand since then. It is a second tube running the length of the stand. This gives you extra stability for bigger and longer sluices. If you build any more projects, I’d be happy to hear about them. Good luck on your builds.

Light weight. Pretty strong. And won't rust....and fully customizable....sheeeeah..thats a good idea. Just solved my problem...and if done properly can be just as sturdy as any

Hi Bill and thanks for watching. Yippers, it’s stronger than it looks. I have run my Gold Hog stream sluice on it which is a beast. If you watch my last video, I show the latest version. It has 2 bars going down the center which gives it some more strength and stability. I have about 20 sluices and Miller tables from 4” to 12” and I made this because I can easily adapt it to fit any of them.

So I saw on another design someone using modified hose Clamps with a turn key on them and those are just a gravity and friction solution to keeping the sluice where you want it. This is a very clean solution though. Nicely done

Thanks. I have tried a number of different ideas over the years and this method worked the best for me. I still use this stand although I now use 2 long bars down the center instead of the 1. I have a heavy Gold Hog Stream Sluice that I have used on this stand and it held it very well. With my wood sluices, I can screw my stand right to the sluice and the legs fold along the sides for easy transport and set up. With longer legs, I can set this up in knee deep water and drop the sluice down in just the top 1” of water to run or put short legs on it to run in shallow water.

Cool stand. I made one out of PVC too for my Angus Mackirk sluice box. I have a video of it on my channel. I like how you made the adjustable legs with the Tee's. I ended up using a conduit hanger bracket for mine.

I checked yours out as well. Nice stand, with that set up you may find like I did that, that is a better way to run your sluice than putting it into the stream. It's hard to get the water adjusted properly in a stream and by using a stand and tote you can control the water flow perfectly. Plus, as you are catching your material in a tote, you can check your tailings and easily see if your sluice is losing gold or not. I found that by doing it this way, I increased my gold catching ability by a large margin.
@CDCGoldProspecting
@CDCGoldProspecting 5 лет назад
@@utahavalanch yea It surely is easier than setting up on a stream. Unfortunately most of the places I go do not allow any type of motors, electric or gas. So you either use a streams water or no sluice at all. haha... I mostly just use mine for cleaning up cons I bring back. Thanks for checking mine out!

CDC Gold Prospecting Yippers, i know how it is. We are only allowed a gold pan and garden spade on many of ours. I found years ago, that the bigger gold is found away from streams and so now I look in other places. Lots of gold all around us. One of them is in my Urban Prospecting video. I get far more gold now than I ever did working streams in my younger years and I work way less dirt.

👍 Nice video, I think I will make one for my A-51. The stock stand is bulky and gets caught up in every tree branch when I'm hiking in, Plus it yours looks much lighter.
@utahavalanch
@utahavalanch 7 лет назад
Hi Utah, thanks for watching. I enjoy your videos. You're right these are much lighter and you can cap the bottoms and fill the tubes with sand for extra weight in the river if you need to. I was surprised how stable these are even in fast or deep water. They enable you to set up most anywhere. You can make a bag from the pant leg of an old pair of jeans to carry them in and and hook it on to your pack frame. The legs for mine are 2 feet long and I have a couple of PVC pipe connectors to connect 2 of them together with a cap on either end and make them into walking sticks or stabilizing poles when wading fast rivers. In the winter you can use them for snowshoe poles when hiking back in. These and my 8" drop riffle sluice are what I use now when I pack back in. Very lightweight.

Phobos Deimos Hi Phobos and thank you for watching. The one I am using now has 2 bars running lengthwise instead of just one. This gives it a bit more stability with my larger 10" sluice. Put the Tee's close to the legs and then have a spacer in the middle between them to adjust to the width you need for the sluice.

Alan Robertson Hi Alan. The one I'm making now has 2 bars the full length instead of just one. Much more stable. Holds my Gold Hog stream stream sluice. You could make it out of 1", 1-1/4" or even 2" pipe. Rather than holding by friction like these do, you could drill holes into the inner pipe so the screws would go into them and that would hold it for sure. Keep up the great work and have a very Happy Thanksgiving.

@@Joshaug1005 I am using this on my new 10” highbanker that is quite heavy. I have a 10 gallon tote with the new stand I use out in the field. Works better than the usual highbankers as I can calibrate the water flow for the fine gold so I don’t lose any. I can’t run as much dirt as a lot of them but I get more gold out of the dirt I do run.

On the new version you just add 2 more Tee’s and another center length shaft. I don’t glue any of the parts, so I can change everything out so I can make it fit my 6” x 20” finishing sluice up to my 10” x 4’ gold hog stream sluice.

David John Thanks David and thanks for watching. This one has been perfect for my 8" sluices but I just made a heavier duty version that is designed to hold larger sluices in the 10 - 14" wide range. The sliding leg part will be the same but it will have a beefier center section to give more stability to the larger sluices. I just have to shoot the video. These are great because you can control the water flow on them. If too much flow, just raise the front until you get the perfect flow. Not enough? Just drop the front til it's what you want.

Cool stand idea. The only thing I noticed is that the Sluice being used has riffles that fill with material. Once full anything else that's ran through the Sluice goes right out the end cause there's nowhere for the heavies to drop out, so after only a bit of material you have to clean your Sluice out. Seems a good way to lose gold. However the Sluice stand idea is good.

cool wonder how it would work on a keen 52
@utahavalanch
@utahavalanch 5 лет назад
Yippers, it would. I have a newer version that I used all summer that has 2 bars going down the center to give the bigger sluices better support. I'll get a video on it one of these days. On the horizontal cross braces, just add another "T" and run another bar down the length of it. Makes it much more stable. I like these in a stream because if the water flow is too much you can just raise the front of it until you get the flow you want. I use this in knee deep water in a river and I can cut the flow down to hardly anything for the fine gold. You can put caps on the ends of the legs and fill them full of sand or heavier black sand to give it more weight to help keep it more stable in a strong flow.

WHAT SIZE WOULD I NEED FOR THE KEEN
@utahavalanch
@utahavalanch 5 лет назад
@@triple_A_rockhound 3/4" pipe would work. I had my Gold Hog Stream sluice on the one in the video except with a longer center piece and wider on the width. It is a heavy beast. If you wanted you could use 1" PVC for a little more strength. You would need a 1-5/16" or 33 mm hole saw to clean out the "T"s. if you wanted to make the legs adjustable. I used one of my 10" sluices on the 3/4" pipe double rail all summer and it worked very well. It is wood and only 24" long though. But I think 3/4" pipe would be enough for your keen.
