Retired pastor here. Yes we can speak out against Trump, but not from the pulpit. That’s for preaching the Gospel. However we can preach against the hate and fear the far-right is spewing. We can speak out against Trump by name in every other venue, as private citizens.

All pastors should be able to speak out against lies, misinformation, and other attacks on truth telling. We don't have to say Trump's name, we just have to speak out against what he does. Speak out against the notion that a person can refuse to repent and still be considered good.

I was raised a Christian, but I can't say I am a Christian - but I am relieved and thankful and grateful to discover there are Christians who still sound like the Christians I used to know.

Thanks for navigating those waters with maturity. To me, Trumpism isn't about Red vs. Blue or Conservatism vs. Liberalism. This is about Truth vs. Lies, Democracy vs. Authoritarianism, Decency vs. Incivility.

Christ may not have involved himself in the politics of his day, but he did speak out against the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. I'm not saying today's Evangelicals are the Pharisees, but hypocrisy is still hypocrisy no matter who practices it.

So many of the churches in our area have gotten to the point of promoting Trump that going to church has become like going to a Trump rally, so I stopped going. I can worship at home

It is so extremely hard to have a Christlike attitude when you think of all the harm and the horrible things Donald Trump has done. That’s why it is so important to keep speaking out against him and not let him get a foothold in this country or at least get that foothold greatly loosened up. My pastor let a woman pass out in our church papers printed off from Dutch Sheet, declaring and decreeing that "America will be saved." She asked everyone to participate in this "prayer" as if it were urgent. I told my husband, after reading it,"I can't declare this!" America is not going to be saved, and I don't have the authority to declare and decree anything. I told my pastor later that that man is a false apostle, and it really bothers me seeing people deceived by this movement.

As a 63 year old Christian man for many decades now, who has never voted in my life because I fully understand that it is equivalent to friendship with the world, which makes one an enemy of God; has recognized overnight that Christians who have involved themselves in politics over the last 40+ years are responsible for giving us Trump. I have said for many many years now, that wisdom and obedience to scripture has been lacking in the leadership of churches; and now, that has brought us to the place we are today. But most pastors/Christians are far too prideful to receive correction - it will be the downfall everything. I'm fully expecting the beast system to fall into place very soon. Most of this got started with Ronald Reagan, but most Christians are ignorant of Reagan's evil, and will not even listen to the truth about Reagan and the Republican party.

We should stand up. We do have a perfect choice. We choose Christ. There are things in the Bible that are hard to understand, but most of it is plain.

Anyone calling themselves a pastor, who don't and won't speak out against DT, should find another career. To say it would be the blind leading the blind would be a generous compliment.

I'm normally 100% behind the separation of church and state, but we live in a country currently, where some churches don't play by those rules. And in this case, I'm fine with you are anyone else in a past or current church position to speak out, as this isn't an issue of left or right, it's an issue of fact Vs fiction, good Vs evil, right Vs wrong. The pastor who recently spoke out at his church calling people out for following Trump and his Bible selling grift. So yeah, when we have false profits and people who use the church for nefarious reasons, those responsible for sure need to be called out in real time.

If pastors and priests do not call out Trump for what he is, but cheerlead him, Christianity will be treated as toxic material by those outside the faith who at least can see Trump for what he truly is.

You can describe his behavior without mentioning his name. He should be in the category of “who is going to hell.”

I am 70 yrs old and have been a member of the same First Baptist church since 1978 and before that I was raised in a Baptist church where I became saved at age 9. Both my parents and my spouse and in laws were democrats. My dad and my father-in-law are World War 2 Veterans and fought for our freedom. I believe in freedom of religion and justice for all! I feel like in my church and in my circle of friends and church family that I can't speak my political beliefs because I vote Democrat and I am a never Trumpster. I know I would also be looked down on because I am pro-choice. I personally don't approve of abortion just as a form of birth control, but I do believe a woman should have the right to make the decision along with her doctor, family and God. There are so many different situations and I don't believe our elected officials should be making those decisions. If the mother's life is in danger or the pregnancy is not a viable pregnancy, the woman should have the right to decide. If someone is raped and physically abused, she should have the right. A small child of ten should not be forced to give birth! This is insane to me.But that is how far some of our leaders have gone. I believe if you are really pro-life, how can you only consider the unborn fetus as the only valuable life to protect! Each person should have the right to decide. We should put just as much value on the mother's life as the unborn child. I was recently at a meeting at our church about the Southern Baptist Convention which was just held in Indianapolis and our pastor attended. I left that meeting with the feeling that if you're not a conservative, you have no place in the SBC or in the Baptist church. Liberals seem to be not welcome in our faith. Even moderates are looked down on. It seems like now to belong in my religion you have to be conservative and follow Trump. I read where he was at the convention and spoke and we are told we have to vote for him because he is the best choice for our beliefs. It's all about the abortion and the LGBTQ community. I read my Bible daily, attend church and Sunday School regularly, and I don't believe this way of thinking is Jesus' way of teaching. Thanks for listening and thank you for your videos. We are to fight the good fight of faith. Choose wisely who you worship. Its not Biden or Trump. Ask yourself who currently is personally attacking Christians in the media,courts,schools and communities.

As a pastor of a small church, I have told our congregation that we must vote according to God's precepts. Every year I would print out both the Democratic and Republican platforms and compare them to God's word. Every time, the same conclusion was found, and I was required to tell them "You cannot vote Democrat and be right with God. People who vote Democrat are either ignorant or evil. God says : "The liberal person is vile . . . he speaks villany, his heart works iniquity, he practices hypocrisy, he utters error against the Lord, he makes empty the soul of the hungry." Thank you! I lost my church family when I decided I couldn't support Trump. It broke my heart, but I could not pretend that his ungodly behavior didn't matter. I was called weak, a backslider, and worse. I saw that mindset was a slippery slope where the behavior of leaders within the church was not to be questioned, even an affair if there was "repentance." The break was traumatic for me, but I could not remain and pretend that position and power was more important than godly character.

I like the way that you are presenting this case. I have listened to some preachers in the congregations spewing out anger against anyone in their church who is a Democrat. And getting the church riled up to throw them out of their church claiming that Democrats are the devil. And looking at that pastor from a Christian point of view, I would have to say that he is the devil and working in the league with the devil. I have been a Christian for over 55 years and I've never seen anything like it. But I also realize that we are in revelations, and we see a lot more hate and division than we've ever seen before. Thank you for this video Pat. There are two things stand out for me. The first is that you have deepened my understanding of how pastors work and the influence that they have. This role is quite laudable unless it is misused and pastors are only human after all and we do know of a small number who have seriously misapplied that position to mislead and exploit their congregations. Secondly, as a member of the Bahá'i Faith, and first we have no pastors, but as an individual believer, I am forbidden to comment on party politics and we have been specifically directed to not make comments about political individuals. Here in the UK we have current elections and the ongoing drama in American politics is much in my and my wife's mind since one of our sons lives in California. The primary cause of this position of the Bahá'i Faith is UNITY. To attack an individual who is hellbent on power at all costs seems quite reasonable, put the devices nature of current American politics is only exacerbated by such a stance. I would rather simply stand for the positive attributes of elected personnel and maybe start with a quote from the Bible. 'But Jesus, knowing their thoughts said to them: Every kingdom divided against itself will become desolate. And every city or has divided against itself will not stand.' Matthew 12-25. And a letter to the National Assembly of the Bahais of USA in 1932 from the Guardian of the Bahá'i Faith, at that time: 'Let them (the Bahá'is) refrain from associating themselves, whether by word or by deed, with the political pursuits of their respective nations, with the policies of their governments and the schemes and programs of parties and factions. In such controversies they should assign no blame, take no side, further no design, and identify themselves with no system prejudicial to the best interests of that world-wide Fellowship which it is their aim to guard and foster. Let them beware lest they allow themselves to become the tools of unscrupulous politicians, or to be entrapped by the treacherous devices of the plotters and the perfidious among their countrymen.'

I’m a lifelong Christian almost in my 50’s, baptized at birth, 14 years of Christian private school, altar boy, and everything, and I’m also a lifelong Dem voter, and as much as I REEAAALLY dislike Trump, and as much of a dangerous threat I believe he is, NO!, I don’t think pastors and churches should speak out against him for the same reason I don’t think the ‘Christian’ right pastors and churches should be speaking in support of him. I’m a big believer in the importance of the Separation of Church and State. The ‘Christian’ right has meshed their religion and politics together. ‘Christianity’ on the right has become more about Trump than Jesus, and more about getting Republicans elected than getting Christians to serve the needy and feed the hungry and everything else Jesus told us to do. I believe Christian Churches and pastors need to keep politics OUT of our churches. So, NO!, I don’t think pastors should speak against Trump, I think pastors should speak against mixing politics into religion altogether. I don’t want my pastor telling me who vote for, and I don’t want my pastor telling me who not to vote for either, same as I don’t want my government telling me who to worship and who not to. What pastors who see the problem with Trump and the problem with Republican party in general, co-opting ‘Christianity’ for political gain, SHOULD BE speaking about to their congregation is that Christianity is a personal relationship between you and God, NOT you, your fellow countrymen, the government, and God. That’s politics. It is not for Christians to vote against everything we believe to be a sin to make the government force others from doing it. God gave us free will, and it’s not for us to take others free will away from them, claiming we’re doing God’s work. For example, I’m a Straight Man and a Christian, and I do believe homosexuality is a sin, but I supported the Gay Marriage bill, and I’m glad it passed, I support Trans rights, and LGBTQ rights, I support Abortion Rights, etc. I got Christians telling me “🫵😠 You can’t be a Christian and support those things”. Yes I can, I just can’t do em. And those that do do them, that’s between them and God. I don’t need to agree with people’s choices, to agree with people’s rights. Muslims believe eating pork is a sin, they believe drinking alcohol is a sin. Jewish people believe eating pork is a sin, and they believe the same about shellfish. Hindus believe the cow is sacred and they won’t eat beef. Do we need them running around trying to outlaw all our bacon, and beer, and shrimp, and lobster, and hamburgers, etc.? Pastors need to speak about the different between practicing religion, and engaging in politics. When you practice religion, it’s between you and God. When you engage in politics, you have to consider everyone in the country, people of different religions with different beliefs, and people who don’t practice religion at all, EVERYBODY. My main point is, more Christians need to be told that supporting in politics that goes against their own personal religious beliefs is not a sin. Too many Christians feel like it is a sin, and that’s how people like Trump come along and manipulate and take advantage of so many Christians so easily. So don’t speak for, or against, ANY politicians. Only speak on the importance of keeping our religious beliefs separate from our political views, and how to do it.
