On June 15, 2013, James Cameron brought his submersible DEEPSEA CHALLENGER to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on Cape Cod. In 2012, Cameron used the sub to make the deepest solo dive on record--all the way to the deepest spot in the ocean, Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench. One year later, Cameron donated the sub to WHOI so that engineers here could study the technological breakthroughs he made in designing DEEPSEA CHALLENGER and apply them to future generations of manned and robotic underwater vehicles. At the event marking the formal handover of the sub to WHOI, Cameron took questions from the audience gathered on the dock.
