I'm a Middle-High Medievalist as well. I particularly enjoy investigating the cast of characters leading up to the Wars of the Roses. I'm a great defender of Margaret of Anjou.😊 I'd also like to read House of Lilies but I don't have any idea when it will hit the U.S. And I'd read anything by John Guy... A suggestion for "Side-quests" for Q2: Watch "Becket" with Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton. Both of them are excellent.
I think I saw somewhere that House of Lilies might be available from April or May in the US but don't quote me on that! I have been wanting to watch Becket for ages, I just can't find it anywhere. Thank you for watching! :)
Oh my Erica, I want to read all of them! I've just downloaded from the library, Weir's 'Katherine Swynford' (after a long wait). After I finish that I Ihave qujte a pile-of-possibilities to choose from. I seem to remember a water damage treatment that involved sealing the book in a ziplock bag and placing it in the freezer overnight, then placing it under a weighted board for a day...I'll need to look that up.
Lol I'm going to have to steal "definite maybes" lol. House of Lilies looks cool for sure. John of Gaunt was an interesting character, thanks for putting that Beaufort book on my radar. Ravenna was great. Great video as usual!
‘House of Lilies’ sounds so good! I finished my first book for this quarter a couple of days ago, which was ‘The White Ship’ by Charles Spencer. I really enjoyed it. I am also planning on reading ‘Summer of Blood’ by Dan Jones, ‘A Great and Terrible King’ by Marc Morris and, if I have time and all goes to plan, ‘Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville: A True Romance’ by Amy Licence.
All great books! A Great and Terrible King is excellent. I haven't read Licence's book though (or even Summer of Blood), I will look for this now. Thank you for watching!
I know the first two quarters are your main interest Erica but they are the two I have the least on my shelves to choose from. I think I’m going for Viking Britain by Thomas Williams and Matilda by Tracy Borman, neither of which I’ve ever read anything about. Like the sound of Ravenna and feel you on over zealous watering damage 😉
Have you read anything by Sharon Kay Penman? Her trilogy on early Plantagenets is incredible! The second in the trilogy, Time and Chance describes Henry’s relationship with Becket, so good 😊
Some lovely choices there. I’m concentrating on Vikings this month but have a load of medieval life books from there onwards 😊. I really love historathon
@@passageoftime8561 I am reading The Children of Ash and Elm by Neil Price, Valkyrie by Johanna Katrin Fridriksdottir and The River Kings by Kat Jarman. I think that should keep me going 😁
@@RaynorReadsStuff I loved Children of Ash and Elm - I hope you enjoy! I have Jarman's book but haven't read it yet - I look forward to hearing what you think.
@@passageoftime8561 Yeah I was looking for mostly medieval and regency era books. Got quite a few good ones while going through your channel. Would love a library tour!
Nice choices. Hard to go wrong with anything surrounding Henry II/Becket! I'm working on The Canterbury Tales and some Chaucer adjacent nonfiction, so it might be interesting to read something about Becket if there's time to spare. Hope you have a great reading quarter!
@passageoftime8561 Looks like you checked out the video where I mentioned them. 😁 I'll try to share some thoughts about them via video and/or the Historathon Discord.
I am joining this late, but will read for sure in July, as my June reading is planned, but i might jiggle it about and squeeze something in. You have chosen some great books, I have read that John guy book about Thomas Becket, hope you enjoy it too.
I’ve not read anything about vlad the impaler. I would like too I Joan Beaufort my many times grandmother so I love reading about the Beaufort. I have been wanting to read the biography on Margaret but haven’t found one yet. I would love to explore your bookshelves since our reading interests are so similar.
I don't think I've come across a standalone biography on Margaret - do you know of any? I agree, what a great tale that would be. Thank you for watching!
