Nice tutorial as always JoyStickNY. When I did my Sanwa swap I actually opted to use the quanba switches and qanba wiring harness on the Sanwa JLF since my Sanwa switch board was pretty old and in need of a replacement. It is kind of a pain to get the switches to sit on the Sanwa mount and get the gate on without one of the switches moving out of place, but once it's all set with the gate on it works very well!
Hey I love the video man. I feel like there's a lack of instructional videos when it comes to modding arcade sticks. In the future do you plan on covering stick mods? Such as the golden fanta mod kit or springs/actuators? It's something that I don't really understand.
Vincent yes, those are in my time line, further down the road, i have a lot of videos to makes and not enough time to make them, its going to be a bit slow for now 🙏
Thank you for the video brother. I have this same arcade stick and the stick was all loose and messed up and so were some buttons and I thought that I would need to buy a whole new arcade stick. I just purchased a Sanwa and buttons and that cord and looking forward to hitting up the FGC once more. Take care and thank you again
Thank you so much for making this video! Sanwa feels so much better. I probably would've had to take it apart and put back together 5 times if it weren't for you. I love your videos. Such good quality, and you make everything very clear.
hello just wanna ask are sanwa buttons kind of loose in their button holes? and do they really feel better I bought some recently and they're kinda loose I haven't used them yet but they seem less... tighter? than my old qanba buttons
Da_Masterdude Lol i think its just playing a lot and practicing, its one of those things thats hard to learn from a video or watching, the more you play, the more games you lose, you will slowly pick up on the games 🙏❤️ and thank you for the kind words, welcome to the channel
Thanks for all the videos! It's been helping me a lot! I bought a Drone as my 1st stick & I'm very happy! So the hardware besides Stick & Buttons, how important is it? Will I "waste" my full Sanwa upgrade on a cheap drone? Or would it be better to pimp a more expensive stick? I'm spending about the same amount off cash on upgrades as I did for the stick.. So any clarity would be nice, thanks! also would LED buttons work with Drone?
hopping to get this as a starting fight stick for ggstrive, and im glad to know its easy to mod the stick (the square gate on the base one is the only thing i was worried about)
Hi JoyStickNY, i just bought my qanba drone, button is ok, dont mind that much but dont like the accuracy of the joystick at all. im kinda sad now. Im an old school arcade gamer, i want the joystick to be as close as old arcade machine joystick possible, any advice?? i think seimtsu joystick will be the closest to old arcade machine joystick. if it is, then which model seimtsu joystick should i buy for my qanba drone? link would be fantastic. thanks
Mamun Hossain i been playing in the arcade since 2000, the parts that was in the usa arcades were happ part. They were circular gate and they feel tighter. The qanba drone lever and button is actually better than what was it the arcades, i think maybe you have to give it some time, Japanese parts are more loose, but loose doesnt make it less accurate, if you prefer a tigher feel, you can change the spring on the lever to a heavier spring or change to happ. But i dont recommend happ. Qanba is very close to sanwa, try to give it more time. Let me know in the future, if you really dont like it, i ll give you some links to seitmitsus
@@JoystickNY thanks for your quick reply. Sorry for the confusion, Im from sydney and here we use Japanese arcade machine with japanese ball lever, not happ part, at least in my time (around 20 years ago), so i think im used to with loose lever i guess. i also watched your video "Sanwa vs Hayabusa Vs Seimitsu Review Detail Comparison 2019 HD". and i think i will like the seimitsu lever than sanwa and my current one comes with qanba drone. will buy both sanwa and seimitsu lever and decide myself what i like as you advised on the video. all i need is the right seimitsu lever link to buy for my qanba drone. thanks for your time
Recently got a hori rap 4 kai and the drone. After a days use on the drone some of my buttons alrdy started to stick lol, im definitely going to follow this mod! Do you have a link to the sanwa buttons as well?
BowmansWorld thank you for the reminder, i will add a link to amazon in a about an hour. Amazon has some, but they dont have much colors to choose from. You can use focus attack, or arcade shock website for parts. They have more selections 🙏❤️ thank you for the love and support
I finally did it. It took me a lot longer since I'm not good at it like you are, but this video was very helpful! I know this will up my gameplay by a lot, so thank you very much.
Awesome video, and keep up the great work! I'm looking to buy my first stick, and this looks like a nice option. There are a few used Madcatz TE2 sticks for sale in my area (SF4 "rivals" and a SF5 Chun-Li). Both are in "like new" condition, and are about the same price (maybe even cheaper) as a Quanba Drone + upgraded parts. Would you recommend the TE2s over the modded Drone? Thanks for your help!
thank bro I buy one Qanba Drone in 38 dollars (used) and buy sanwa stick cost 30 dollars more bottons 25 dollars and now have full sanwa stick for 85 dollars and new component
Lol I want to get these sticks soo bad but I live in india a stick here costs literally 70000 rupees which is about a 1000 dollars but amazing content bro good job...😀😀😀💙
This video really helped me with choosin' my first stick without payin' hundreds of dollars for one of those high end ones. Wasn't plannin' on switchin' out the stick so early but was glad to know it was so easy to do. Snagged one of these off amazon but the stick felt really... stiff? I guess is the word? picked up a Sanwa replacement and a bat top instead of the ball and plopped 'em in today and omg it feels SO freakin' nice... kinda wantin' to do the buttons next to swap out the all black stock ones. So thanks for makin' a really easy to understand video for a joystick nub like myself =)
do you have to have the metal part of the wire connected all the way down on the metal part of the button? On my hori rap n, the metal part that you pull up is really stuck on there so when i reconnected it, I connected it back just a little past halfway so next time it isn't so hard to take out. Will this cause any issues if, as of right now, the buttons seems to work perfectly?
the elusive meme you can actually adjust that metal part with a plier, you can loosen it up and then plug it in and clamp it tight, its soft metal meant to be bent.
@@JoystickNY i dont have a problem putting the metal part on, its more the taking it off the button part that is hard. I use pliers to lift it up a little than I just pull it out. But i was wondering if its okay to not have that metal part all the way down so i wouldn't have to use pliers next time.
the elusive meme if it works, then you dont have to worry, i think some of mines are sometimes half way too, as long as its tight enough so it doesn’t come loose.
I just finished a full mod with a Sanwa JLF joystick and Sanwa buttons. Why can't all joysticks be this easy to mod??? I should've had this stick a long time ago. Great video bro!!!!🙏🏿🙏🏿
It took me forever to remove the ball top off of my Qanba Q4 RAF with the flat head screwdriver as the threads were basically stuck together and the buttons were just as hard to get out. I couldn't remove the quick release from the buttons and I couldn't do it with the flat head screwdriver but I managed to use a pair of pliers to wriggle them out with some force. After I remove the parts and put it back together since I just wanted to see if I can remove them, I find it easier to remove the connections as I see fit. I think it's the age of the parts as I got the stick used. Luckily I don't really need to mod the stick as it already has Sanwa parts and connects to PC out of the box. I do intend to change the artwork when I get the chance.
rxzero00 you can also loosen up or widen the metal connection, its must metal and its designed to be bent. That way in the future you can just use your hands to unplug them 🙏 thank you for watching
last question sorry for bothering you so much man When i go to arcades and stuff i see no kids my age and all my friends are not interested in fighting games so how do you think i can find kids you are 15 yrs old ish who are into fighting games are there any fgc websites for that are something
hey. honestly you should go yo locals and meet people in your area. Always meet people online, most people are friendly and enjoy the same games you like. You should just play, not worry about makkng friends. You be surprised how big your local scence are. Some local game store also hold local events, or maybe you should find ways to host your own events to get new people interested.
Great question and observation, your are correct, fighting game has a very small community, fighting game is the least popular game genre compare to every other genre, like shooting, RPG, sports, mmorpg, story, much more. Fighting game can be hard, becuz it takes time to learn, fighting game can also he boring becuz someone is just pressing the same buttons over n over again, and there is nothing new on the screen, there is no story to it. Someone can play final fantasy for 10 hours easily, but someone can get bored at fighting game in 10 minutes. If you like it, i would recommend finding a game you like that has a good online system, and play online more. I love fighting games and i can play it 10+ hours. But i can tell you its going to be huge, and i am going to let you know why, i have a video on that topic soon 🙏❤️😊🕹
jose melchor yes, its the same, but is easier, you dont need the 5 pin cable, the obsidian has a cable inside, you can just plug straight into the sanwa JLF joystick lever ❤️🙏
Now that the Qanba Drone is going for the same price as the F500, what would you recommend? I don't like that you need a ps4 controller to connect to a ps4, but you can get a usb dongle that makes it standalone.
S Rhom i think the f500 would be a better deal in terms of value, because u get a bigger and heavier body and its multi console, but i think i would personally go for the qanba drone becuz i dont like to connect controller part too. Both of them are similar in terms of function and parts, go with which ever design you like better . Or wait for a sale
How timely this video is... i just bought a Qanba drone after being convinced by your other video 😉. So far Im ok with the stock lever, would Sanwa be any good?
Joseph Olvina the stock lever is actually not bad, it is better than a lot of entry level sticks, i would get comfortable with it and master it first, learn everything about it, once you think you are ready for the next step, then make the move 🙏😊 thank you for watching
honestly you should mod the buttons to sanwa, noticeably difference in quality. Drone buttons feel cheap and hollow. Have same opinion on the drone joystick, joystick lever is little more difficult to mod, need special 5pin harness or cut the wire on drone and place sanwa color cable together certain pattern.
Well it depends on how sensitive do you like when it comes to button presses. Sanwa buttons are really sensitive as just a tiny touch can trigger the buttons. Sanwa levers are also really lose out of the box to me. You can fix that with a heavier spring or a tighter stick like those from Seimitsu. I like Seimitsu buttons because you need a little more force. If you like mechanical keyboards, then maybe Gamefinger buttons or Crown buttons as they use mechanical switches. I think the modern Hayabusa buttons from Hori are close to Sanwa but with a matte finish instead of the typical glossy finish. Also to consider is your budget really. Qanba buttons are close to Sanwa. For my Qanba Q1W I just use Seimitsu buttons and a Seimitsu LS-32 stick but I just use it for 3D fighters like Tekken and Virtua Fighter, other arcade games, shoot em ups, and Touhou Project games. My other Qanba Q4 RAF, I have it already stocked with Sanwa parts so I just use it for other fighters when I don't feel like using a game pad controller.
You can fit a korean lever only if its design for japanese sticks, with a short collar, and officially u cant just drop it in the drone; u will have to bend the connectors i will have a video on it this month on the drone and other entry lvl sticks 👍🕹
I also have another question is the seimitsu stick the most precise stick because in your comparison video you said that it was best at diagonals and im still a bit confused which category the stick would fall in
Da_Masterdude Lol technically it is the most precise in terms of how hard you press, becuz of the metal, every little pressure you push will show, where as other switches are simple just press or not pressed, thats why seitmitsu is more accurate in that catergory. But in fighting game, that pressure doesnt really matter becuz there is no input that has partial press or half press, if you know what i mean, generally speaking, they all work great, if you arw unsure, go with sanwa . You cant go wrong with it 🕹😊
For some reason I had to connect the jlf connector to the adapter as opposed to skip that and go straight to the board with the 5 pin. Idk why I mean it works just a lot of wires there
Ned Stark if it connect and it works, it should not be a problem, if you have time, maybe take out the extra parts, sometimes go pass too many wires can add delay to a signal. 🙏❤️ thank you for watching
The easiest way is to open it, connect a different wire to that button, then go back in to setting in the game; button configure, and just map that button as thr attack you want, let me know if it works 👍🕹
@@JoystickNY it's a lot smaller than I originally thought it would be, i'm 6'6 is there any bigger stick you would recommend that is modable, I already bought sanwa parts and plan to use the qanba body in the mean time.
Just wondering if this stick will work on a Raspberry Pi or Nvidia shield? Looking to use it mostly as an arcade stick for those two devices for retro games. Being able to use it on a PS3/PS4 is just a bonus for me. Maybe the Qanba Carbon would be better for those?
Hey Joystick NY, an off topic question here, but what are your opinion on the IBuffalo Savior 13 stick? I managed to ordered one for a cheap price but there's no review (that was in a language I can understand) whatsoever
I never seen that stick before in the usa before, that is a japanese exclusively for the japan market, i dont understand the Japanese writing, judging from the photo and price, it looks like a entry level stick. And i couldnt find any pictures of the internals, so i cant really give you a good answer on this stick. If you do receive it, open it up, and if its friendly mod able, you should be okay, cuz you can just replace the buttons and lever easily, but if its solder wires, then it will be a bit more hassle 😊
@@JoystickNY So the stick just came in and I can confirm it's mod friendly. Sadly I'm still pretty much a beginner in all these stuff so I didn't dare to mess with them. The lever and button feels good enough tho, so I'm planning to just keep using them and see what'll happen.
What would be a better choice the qanba drone fully modded with sanwa parts or a Hori RAP V Hayabusa for switch but no modding? I play on PC if it matters
Aries Austria great question, from what i seen, No, majority of sticks uses sanwa, hori uses their own hayabusa, and other cheaper sticks uses unbranded parts.
I was watching another mod tutorial on this and the guy added and octagon gate on the bottom of his sanwa joystick. What is the benefit of this? Is this extra part needed or worth it?
Elite Company great question by the way, the sanwa lever usually comes with a square restrictor gate, some people like to swap it, and pop in a octagon gate, there is no advantage in terms of game play, but they give you a different feeling, for example, on a 🟥 gate, notice up down left right is a flat wall, and on a octagon every direction is a corner, so it feels very different. Thats the biggest difference, i do have a video coming up soon and i will be talking about it in more details 🙏❤️🕹 new players prefer the octagon gate because its easier to learn, because there is a true direction,
Thank you, the lever had not "survived", the SF6 Beta and there came plastic out of the case, when i watched into the stick. Saved me a lot of money instead of buying a new arcade stick.
I want to mod a drone, but i really dislike the design. Is there an easy way to change the decal or maybe get a faceplate for the drone to change the design?
Not that i know of, by default is not artwork friendly because its like painted on to the plastic, i think the best thing you can do is probably print a design on a adhesive and stick it over it to cover it 🙏❤️
I just got an used qanba drone and i am wondering, should i bother and upgrade it or look for ''the next thing''? if you could put in terms of cars between a stock qanba drone and this modded version, do you think its worth it?
I would def change the button and lever to sanwa if you are serious about fighting game, if you touch it here and there, i would say dont bother. In terms of cars, its kinda like if u drove it on the weekends, u can drive a base model honda accord, if u drove to work everyday and wants to feel the turn and the handling, maybe go for that sports fully loaded with turbo if u know what i mean
I just did this to my drone and it works on the ps5! You just got to turn the ps5 on with the controller then press to the ps button on the stick to use it.
@@JoystickNY It is. compete.playstation.com/en-us/article/best-arcade-sticks-fighting-games-ps5-2021 I just ordered this stick yesterday, I was wondering if there is a list of games somewhere, listing PS3, PS4, and now PS5 games which support this Arcade sticks.
Loved the video Do you or anyone knows if the shaft cover and dustwasher that comes with the drone stick can be use with the sanwa JLF? So I don't need to order those plastics? Thanks in advance
trying to find the 5 pin cable in canada. i do not want to pay 23 bucks for 5 of them. anyone have an idea where to get just one? oh how i miss radioshack.
It will be a 50$ difference, Qanba drone about 65-70, sanwa parts 30-35, your looking at about 100, But you get a smaller stick The daija will definitely be the better stick, if you dont mind paying 50$ more.
You should do more video like analysing characters and reacting to reveals trailer, I know this channel main focus is on fightstick but I thinks it's cool to switch up the content from time to time.
Thank you for the advice, i thought about those too when i first started, i do have some diff content coming soon, and i am also waiting for the new games to come out, kof15, gran blue fantasy vs, guilty gear strive, i will probably have more game contents, i feel that the current games already have enough people covering it, and most characters covered already. Thats why i figured let me get these videos out first before those new games release. 🙏❤️ and thank you for dropping by
Owa Chan hori rap 4 would be better worth, but it would he 2 diff things tho. Cuz ur qanba will be all sanwa parts, and hori would be all hayabusa parts
Owa Chan nope, cant change the artwork on the qanba or hori rap4, becuz the design is print directly on the plastic, the only way u can add a artwork is buying like a sticker to cover it, but its not worth it, over time it will peel and come off
I am not exactly sure, i never took it apart like that, but off the type of my head, they do seem abit different, how come ur sanwa lever didnt come in a whole piece?
@@JoystickNY My stick was modded was someone else as I fear ending up breaking the stick if I did it myself. I suppose he took the mounting plate for himself instead of handing it over to me. The mounting plate has to be removed so that the lever could be screwed to my Hori Blazblue Chronophantasma stick. I broke down my Drone to find out and confirmed that the stock Qanba lever's mounting plate is a perfect fit to the Sanwa, so at the very least it alleviates the need to get another mounting plate. I can't believe that piece of metal can be pricey as hell.
CyFang thats sounds like a fun video to do, i think probably down the road, right now i have a long list of video i want to put it out because the craziness happens, which is the ps5 and a lot of new games, i want to get most of the videos out on my timeline before it. I will definitely keep that in mind. Thank you for suggesting 🙏
The the taeyoung will not fit, because the shaft hole is too small, japanese stick casing have a different size hole compared to korea casing, because the taeyoung has that black cylinder on the shaft 🙏❤️ good question tho
Since I'm new with Arcade stick, what's the benefit of changing the buttons to sanwa? Will it be hard to play on my Qanba drone with its normal buttons? Thanks for your time 🙏
I bought Sanwa buttons for my Qanba Drone but they just doesn't seem to want to snap in place, no matter how hard I press on them (I can even hear the plastic creaking). Any tips on getting them to snap in place?
My only advice to someone wanting an arcade stick is to save a bit and get a good one, or buy an enclosure and put it together yourself, its pretty simple with very little knowledge required and will be future proof and easy to work on, if you buy something good quality once you don't have to keep buying slightly better sticks.
Hello brother I m from India I love sfv and I have qanba stick but in India it's very difficult to find the parts I have some problem with bottons where do I find the bottons bro pls help
