8BitDo is releasing a controller which uses Gulikit's Sticks next week for $70 as well. Better deal IMO if you live somewhere where the King Kong Pro 2 is also $70. It has 2 rear paddles, a 2.4GHz dongle (as well as bluetooth) and a charging dock. You have to specifically buy the one which is for Switch and Windows though, they are releasing Windows only and wired only versions as well, but those use normal sticks.

Fun fact: The dreamcast's contoller had this technology in the early 2000's, where the analog stick would activate magnets in the circut board, which could be used for an analog input depending on how strong the force was. The only reason why it wasn't popularized was because the dreamcast's sales fell short of competitors (n64, ps2)

Everyone was telling me i have to go with the Gulikit KK2, so i ordered one. It's a nice controller, but i still think the 8BitDo Ultimate is better. It also has Hall effect joysticks. I like the 8bitdo better because it comes with a charging dock with pogo connectors, the controller also does switch, xbox, PC, Android and iOS. Another nice thing is it connects either Bluetooth, wired or 2.44GHz vis a usb dongle. The Dock also acts as a passthrough for either 2.4GHz connectivity or wired. The + and - (Start and Select) are also in better more conventional spots especially when it comes to muscle memory. The one nice thing i do like about the Gulikit KK2 Pro are the clicky shoulder buttons. Other than that, they're both nice controllers, but for me, it's the 8BitDo Ultimate!

Most of it is easily fixable with some sanding (the controller is one of the easier that I've opened too). My issue is that the mechanical buttons themselves are similar to mechanical keyboard switches but nowhere as high-quality; the 'clickiness' comes from two plastic fins grinding against two plastic tabs inside and this design gives it a weird amount of resistance that some players might find awkward and even 'sticky'. For people who find that the buttons are hard to press down and/or are sticky, I highly recommend giving them the same treatment as you'd give mechanical keyboard switches: open them up and lubricate the insides. They then turn into some of the best buttons I've ever tested.

For the GK KK3 they should have a stick / dpad arrangement you can flip around, and have different USB-attached radios you can attch so instead of shoehorning compatibility for almost everything inside of the controller body, they can have the external radio permit for different firmware to use with other consoles. If they go that approach, they could either have the radio sticking out of the controller, or to make it look _sleek_ they can have it stuck inside with a switch-style lever to disconnect and protrude the radio for ease of replacement, and tinkerers will definitely find other uses for them. Future replacement face button caps should either be magnetic, or barring that go full techie and use monochromatic e-ink displays. All of these changes would probably bump the cost up to $140 but remember, you're buying this _for life._ There's no reason why not to shoot for the moon and create the ultimate controller.

As some others have mentioned, GuliKit appear to have a few QC issues but nothing fatal; in my case I had a tiny bit of left-over plastic flashing on one of the triggers that was causing it to catch on the housing sometimes, but thankfully the controller is easy to take a apart and service and a few seconds with a mini file was all it took to clean it up and it's flawless now. A thing to keep in mind is their Quality Control. I bought this controller and I had severe input lags even in wired mode. I had to return it twice (they sent another one with the same issue but still very noticeable input lag) before receiving a non-defective one. And the input lags I experienced wasn't just milliseconds of delay, it was seconds to the point I could see the input was stuck in one direction while I was testing on gamepad-tester. Other than that, it's definitely a worth buy with such a cheap price but subjectively good to play with. Edit : On top of the issue I had, there's also some complaints at my local shopping platform where some users experienced some issues on the buttons where they would be hard to press and/or stuck, as well as the analog stick having some form of friction (which they shouldn't, they're supposed to be very smooth). These issues could be from the molding injection defects where there's excess plastic on the parts, another RU-vidr have made note of this when they disassembled it ( Link : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SLepubiTsEc.html ).

Something worth knowing about this controller - If you have experience with custom keyboards, you can open this up, open the abxy switches up, rotate the internal component and lube them and it creates an excellent linear switch. The old sega’s dreamcast controller uses the same method for their analog stick. There are some flight stick controllers by many manufacturers that also uses them, but weirdly enough, that’s a trend manufacturers sadly walked away from, probably for cost savings. @@kendokaaa It's likely down to either frametime variation or floating point inaccuracy, or both. The latter is an inherent issue with how computers handle decimal points, and we've been so unable to solve it that no programmer in their right mind should allow floating point numbers into financial programs. There are workarounds, sometimes. In the case of graphical functions, many calculations involve these slightly inaccurate numbers. Nobody cares if the model is a pixel off in a frame or two. It's definitely a case of "good enough," and some things run faster with less accurate numbers. My personal experience is pretty damning. I was making a program and defined a variable as 2.0. I then hovered over it in the code editor, and the tooltip told me it was 2.0004. What. Imagine that, but then you throw cosmic bit flips into the equation. There's a solution for that too, but Intel decided a long time ago that shouldn't be a general consumer feature. In short, the average home PC is likely not perfectly accurate. Engineers pay extra for more stable hardware, but even then the program has to be designed a little different for maximum accuracy.

In all of them, after everything else falls apart; the accuracy/precision of the hall sensor (after more than 10 years of continue using) is still as good as the day I brought them. I'm pretty sure drift wouldn't be a thing if they had slightly better quality joysticks. though obviously hall effect and optical switches are still the best in terms of reliability. a great way to get rid of mechanical drift is to have a small spring detent in the middle, avoiding the joystick from wandering around. though the problem would also be solved by having easily replaceable joysticks. use inserts and machine thread screws, and have the joysticks on a secondary pcb. don't tell me the extra 2 bucks can't be put in a fucking 70 bucks gamepad.

I also had to take it apart and shave a small piece of plastic off of one of the joysticks because on the inside it was rubbing against something inside, stopping me from being able to move forward fully - it was very easy to do and maybe took 10 mins tops, but that was also trying to find out what was wrong (I've since seen this is the case for a couple of other people online too). The Gulikit also have one but is a separate purchase, and the design does not compare to 8bitdo's charging dock which also act as its stand. - Both controller (KK2 pro and Ultimate BT) have hall sticks sensor. The 8bitdo has its own software, which I will mention later. While the Gulikit can be turned on with a combination of button. Between the two, i feel like the 8bitdo is much more accurate that Gulikit. But maybe it's only because of: -Latency issues. While on PC, i connect the 8bitdo via 2.4ghz. While the Gulikit is only via BT connection. I feel a little latency on Gulikit, and is also a known issue already on internet by most user. I dont have any latency issues on the 8bitdo one. My Gulikit often disconnects and also worsens input lag if you're a few meter away from the PC. -Customizable: The 8bitdo ultimate has its own "ultimate software" that you can use to set your button bindings, macro, deadzones, etc. While the Gulikit ones only have a set of button combos/instruction on how to set a certain action (Example: setting no deadzone mode is 'gearbutton' + 'minus' button). - Android compatibility: I dont own a switch so I can only judge the two on PC and mobile android. I cannot connect the 8bitdo Ultimate BT on my mobile phone and it is a known issue. Even though connecting it via 2.4ghz or BT, no luck. My phone can pair it via BT but does not register any inputs. While the Gulikit works flawlessly on my android phone. Tried it on deadcells and call of duty mobile. - Feel while holding: I prefer holding the Gulikit. Its shape and looks looks similar to Xbox' controllers and feels better when held than 8bitdo. Maybe because of 8bitdo's shape which is a more straight on its side. -Buttons and trigger: Buttons, i prefer the 8bitdo. My Gulikit already have a sticky 'A' button only on 2 months of use. And my 8bitdo is much older with 5 months of use already. Meanwhile on trigger and shoulder: I prefer the Gulikit one. Its trigger is easier to trigger because it has a less travel time to be 100%. Also the RB/LB buttons have a clickier sounds. While on the 8bitdo, the triggers need more push to be 100% input. This is my take on the both controllers. I love them both because they are my first premium controller coming from fake xbox 360 controller which only cost around 7$. Had customer support send me instructions on how to update and reset the controller, but it seems that was only a temporary fix. Overall, I really do like the controller, but the way the sticks are made for pretty much every controller leaves a lot to be desired for sure

I have been using a PS4 controller as my main PC controller, and honestly, most of the time it's seen as an Xinput via Steam. So in all honestly, it doesn't matter if the face buttons are correct, you get used to the button positions which all the major controllers are the same regardless, face buttons mean very little.
@rensuchan
@rensuchan Год назад
@@KeithEngel I think it's a personal preference thing. My brain sometimes gets confused if they don't match. I played some rhythm games in the past using a PS4 controller on Steam and not being able to switch the button symbols really messed with me.
@DavidFrostbite
@DavidFrostbite Год назад
@@KeithEngel yeah, it's easy to ignore the PS buttons since they are basically half symbols - but when B is A and A is B it gets really confusing really quick. I really miss the wii u pro layout, with the joysick above the abxy. It was a mirror of the default xbox layout and the only nintendo controller I could switch between without needing to re-learn my muscle memory every time.
@KeithEngel
@KeithEngel Год назад
@@DavidFrostbite Yet if the controller is going to be used as Xinput, the B will be A regardless and the A will be B regardless because that is how the inputs are mapped. So basically I don't even look at the face buttons, for me anymore it's just automatics that bottom button is A, right button is B, Top Button Y, and left button is X. Muscle memory is muscle memory, symbols on the screen are what is important and remember were those inputs are regardless what's on the face of the controller.

depending on what materials your potentiometer uses it can also oxidize and skew the readout that way. Not much to generalise from other than that I learnt there's a lot to be said for companies such as Microsoft and Sony who HAVE to produce a controller that at the very least meets a threshold level of reliability. I opened it up to look and found the button had a bit of plastic poking off the edge of the bottom of it, and I had to smooth it down to fix it. Looking online I think Gulikits QC is lacking having seen similar complaints from others and for their older pads. 8Bitdo also has their own pad coming out this month that uses Hall Effect sensors, the same price but comes with a charging dock and it's both bluetooth and 2.4ghz, so that may be a better option if you are looking to spend money on a premium pad like this.

It felt a bit like beta-testing in those first months of use before they fixed pairing or input lag but as for now I didn't find any bugs and they still improve that firmware regularly, adding more features. I was curious about the difference between KingKong and KK2 but maybe if i'll need another for my GF to play some coop games or if the pad dies somehow, i'll pick that newer one.

@scoopstacey3112
@scoopstacey3112 Год назад
They might still be kicking, but if you use the controllers your kids have, vs a new series X pad youll definitely feel the difference in quality. At the very least, the silicone pads between the buttons and PCB on the original XBONE controllers are weak material, that often breaks around the rim of the button contact, making them feel very mushy, and sometimes even stick in the "down" position for too long. I had this issue with 2 xbone pads that were completely babied. Its not a matter of mis-treatment.
