After a week in Switzerland, then a week in Finland it was time to come home.
I arrived at London Heathrow on an earlier flight with Finnair from Helsinki.
Making things a lot easier, is that flight arrived in to Terminal 3, which is where Qantas depart from.
The Qantas check in area is in zone C, the Priority check in desks are kind of hidden in the back corner.
Once checked in, you go up an escalator and through security, then a duty free store, then the Qantas London Lounge is located near Gate 11.
The lounge was extremely crowded, but still able to get a seat upstairs, before heading back down for some a-la-carte dining.
Boarding time came around, and it is a short walk to Gate 1, where we boarded soon after.
The flight was 100% full, so it made it a little more difficult to get the normal footage that I try and get, but all meals were tasty, and managed to get a little bit of sleep.
We arrived into Singapore slightly earlier than scheduled, which meant a little more time in the Qantas First Lounge. As usual, the dining experience started with Salt & Pepper Squid, and normally I would always go for the Laksa, however today the Roast Pork was in order (Delicious).
Before long it was time to head to D46 for boarding, and the Security Screening at the gate.
Another totally full flight, with us getting into Sydney shortly after the scheduled arrival time.

That was an awesome video. Great editing. Took us through 2 long flights with an idea of all the main steps. Heathrow Terminal 3 departure needs a bit of a facelift. I've always wondered whether london to perth to Sydney is better than London to Sing to Sydney. Then we have to consider if Sydney to London direct on the Sunrise project will be a blessing or 18 hours of slow torture in Economy. Time will tell. Awesome content!

Thank you. Yes, T3 is getting quite dated, especially the departure gates. I did fly QF10 from LHR to PER in October 2022, it was a great flight (better than I expected) but after missing the QF2 the night before due to lengthy Air Traffic Controls flying BA from Zurich to London, by the time that flight came around the following day I think I slept most of the way in an exit row seat (hence no video). I do like the break in Singapore, and as for the upcoming direct flights, pre-pandemic I used to fly the DFW to SYD a lot which is getting close to the same flight times (17hr if I recall) and with the new upgraded cabins on the A35X it should be a good option, especially for those in First/Business/Premium Economy.

May I suggest that you look at how you budgeted your time in this video. Boarding took place at the half-way mark.

Some people who watch these videos have never flown out of thees airports, so getting an idea of which terminal, where in the terminal the check in desks are etc etc, comes in handy. Also, I usually have a lot more content of the actual flight itself, however, given how crowded this flight was, I don't like to impose when taking video, so kept recording to a minimum. Normally 2/3 to 3/4 of most videos is of the flight itself (plus some lounge time). Suggestion noted, and I appreciate the feedback.

I was always wondering if they let you get off at SIN. Did they make you leave the aircraft or could you have stayed onboard? How long was the stop at SIN? Great video, subbed!
@ausflyer
@ausflyer 3 месяца назад
The stopover is 2 hours, everybody must exit the aircraft, with all personal effects and baggage (the aircraft gets cleaned, refuelled, catering loaded etc). There is enough time for those that have lounge access to chill out, or grab a shower. And for those without lounge access some time to stretch your legs, look at the shops etc etc. With Singapore, they perform security checks at each gate, rather than when entering the terminal, so time needs to be allocated to re-screening, no liquids over 100ml etc etc, then boarding usually commences 30-40 minutes before departure (once cleared the gate based security, there is a small enclosed waiting area with seating, and facilities to refill water bottles). Thank you

Wow the catered meals Qantas offers seem really shit on this sector. No appetizer with any of the meals, and a cold main dish (correct me if I'm wrong) to start with from Heathrow and another cold arrival meal prior to landing in Singapore. I won't book them. I expect more when paying that much to go to Australia. Yes, also in Economy. Other airlines like EK and SQ proof it can be done. I do like their galley setup for snacks and drinks, to end on a positive note. Great video, thx for sharing :)

Prior to the Dinner Service the crew firstly come through distributing water bottles to everyone, then there is a drink service which comes with a snack (usually a nut mix or similar, and they are a decent size bag, not the tiny little snack packs). The meal itself, with bread roll and dessert is more than enough, and bigger than what many other carriers serve. It was my choice to have the cold chicken salad (it is very good), there are at least 2 hot options as well (normally I video the selection screen, but there is usually at least 2 hot dishes, with one of them being Plant Based). The mid flight snack was a Hot Pastie, and the pre-arrival meal was a choice between a few hot options, and the fruit salad, along with a muffin and yoghurt. Then there was another full meal after leaving Singapore (the menu at 7:45 is similar to what it would have been on the previous flight) plus a hot pastry prior to arrival. Trust me, you will not go hungry. I tend to eat the salad and fruit plates due to eating the good stuff in the lounges... ;-) Having flown many airlines, including EK 7-8 weeks after the flight in this video, there catering by no means is better (in Economy) and as for quality of food, what is offered on QF & EK is from the exact same kitchen (DNata who is owned by Emirates). The self serve snack and drink area on the QF A388 is great. I would normally video a lot more onboard, but being totally full, I don't want to be 'that person' so recorded what I could without inconveniencing any other passengers.

I’m assuming you are a frequent flyer to be able to access the Qantas Lounge?
@ausflyer
@ausflyer 5 месяцев назад
Yes, I probably need to make that a bit clearer in my videos. I have Platinum Status (OneWorld Emerald) with Qantas which affords me lounge access.

Thanks for the video. Just the thought of Economy for such a long haul fills me with horror. A few years ago I was upgraded on my regular 12hr flight from P.E. to Business. Clever move as from that day on it was Business class or nothing 😆
@ausflyer
@ausflyer 9 месяцев назад
Whilst Business Class is great, and it is hard going back to Economy after enjoying such a seat. My preference is to fly 5-6 more times with the savings between paying for Economy compared to Business Class.

Thanks for the video. I am trying to work up the courage to fly by myself to Australia as part of a World cruise. How did you qualify for use of the Quantas lounge flying economy class?
@ausflyer
@ausflyer 5 месяцев назад
The flight, whilst long is comfortable (even in Economy) and if you can get some sleep the time flies by. As for lounge access, I have a high frequent flyer status with Qantas which allows me lounge access when flying with them, or any other OneWorld airline, regardless of what class of travel I fly in. I believe at times they offer paid entry at the LHR lounge, which may get you access.

Does the London Singapore leg have some Australian based crew or is it fully serviced by the London based cabin crew?
@ausflyer
@ausflyer 6 месяцев назад
The crew was London Based but there were several Australians who relocated to the UK so both on that flight (the majority from UK). The flight crew up in the cockpit I am 99% sure were all Australian

@@ausflyer Thank you. I was just wondering how they were doing it these days. I was flying with Qantas on the Singapore London route some years ago and they were split half and half. I travelled on an Iberia flight from London to Madrid two weeks ago and spotted a Spanish guy working for Qantas commuting home. So I realised the London base is open again. It was confirmed by the new QF safety video with a London based cabin crew in it.

The crew on this specific flight had one crew member who lived in Spain, and another, who was one of the more senior staff living in Belgium. @@user-cx3mh6dd9n

Everything else in the video, title & description says QF2, the error was noticed a few days later but to fix requires deleting the entire video, then re-uploading it. Appreciate the feedback regardless. I blame fat fingers... ;-)

After all that food in the Singapore lounge I am surprised you could eat the roast chicken on the aircraft!
@ausflyer
@ausflyer 9 месяцев назад
Part of the reason there was no mid-flight snack... (The chicken was good). Also, keep in mind, at that point in time I had been on the move for well over 24hrs after initially flying from Helsinki to London Heathrow. The food was keeping me going... well that's what I am running with ;-)

So, where does the fuel go ,not in them skinny wings that's for sure
@ausflyer
@ausflyer 9 месяцев назад
320,000 Litres (250 tonnes) of fuel is stored solely in the wings, with a small trim/surge tank in the tail. Each wing is 1-3m thick and total wingspan is 80m (262ft). This plane is massive.

no way mate , more like surge tank and high powered air compressors more like it , absolute fraud as well , i call BS big time @@ausflyer
@ausflyer
@ausflyer 9 месяцев назад
@kinchegayowie6167 google A380 fuel tanks, 95% of all fuel is in the wings. I am guessing you have never flown on this aircraft to understand just how big it is, and how thick the wings are where they meet the fuselage. No BS at all.
@kinchegayowie6167
@kinchegayowie6167 9 месяцев назад
what a load of crap mate , your telling me that there is the equivalent weight of 20 double decker buses in each wing and all that weight sloshing around , could not fit that amount of liquid, and there is enough evidence to suggest the the opposite,@@ausflyer
@ausflyer
@ausflyer 9 месяцев назад
@kinchegayowie6167 The fuel level in the tail tank, which can take up to 23,698 liters, is adjustable in flight for trimming purposes. Overall, the hard-line A380-800 fuel-tank capacity is 315,292 liters, most of which is contained in two inner wing tanks with more than 90,600 liters. Two other mid-wing tanks hold about 72,000 liters between them, with inner engine 2 and 3 feed tanks containing 28,130 liters each. The outer engine 1 and 4 feed tanks each hold 26,974 liters, while the two outer tanks each hold 9,524 liters. Total Fuel Capacity in weight 250 tonnes. Maximum take-off weight is 573 tonnes (1,263,000 lb) Technical Image: i.stack.imgur.com/TJZA8.jpg
