Nice video! Reminds me a bit of the LGA - DCA Shuttle, in its brevity. I’ll take your word for it, but that tofu burger looked so unappetising 🤢 Something I like about early morning flights? Calm, quiet? Cheers!
It depends on the rules in a particular country, but in most places you can leave them off from sunrise to sunset. It is done in most north European countries (they have a strong savings mind setting). I was tormented by my dad to save light bulbs in the house, so it does not surprise me he did the same on his B767 or B747. I think myself it’s best to leave them on as it’s easy to forget you left them off.
I've flown on one of Qantas' older -800s and it was simply awful. I was seated in seat 1D so my bags were not permitted to rest on the floor. Unfortunately, there was no room in the overhead locker so the purser stowed it in their personal closet. My recline function was broken and the seat didn't adjust. The footrest was stuck on the floor and the upholstery flaked off of the seat. The PSU had panel gaps and the lights in it didn't work, and the window shade was stuck in the 1/2 down position. Additionally, the oven was broken so my Business Class lunch was served cold and soggy. Overall, it was not worth the money despite the hour-long sectors I flew from Sydney to the Gold Coast round-trip. They lost one of my checked bags too! (VH-VYI/VH-VXA) On the A380 where I also flew business, the cabin crew actually forgot to serve my meal to me and somehow remembered everyone else so I had to ask them and go the galley about an hour after meal service commenced. They also forgot to pick up my tray at the end. I have a nut allergy, so they gave me one singular Lindt Milk Truffle (costs less than $1) when I spent over $9000 on the ticket. The inefficiency of Sydney Airport caused us to land an hour late in Los Angeles, making me nearly miss my Delta connection. The transfer bus in Sydney is AMAZING though. (VH-OQG twice) I'd rather fly with one of the SkyTeam airlines that serve Oz instead since the service and hard product are far superior. I fly Qantas fairly often to visit family down under and I can say that they've degraded significantly in the past decade.
So many Australians have done that flight so many times, and we do have a high proportion of frequent flyers between capitals and earning on FIFO work. I fully d the 30” too tight - I cannot lower the tray table unless my feet are under the seat in front. Nice to finally see my home city in one of your vids! (Just nitpicking/ the JL flight from Sydney is to HND, breaking the former fantastic connection SYD-NRT-BOS)
Yes I was waiting for someone to pick out the NRT/HND mistake. I noticed how MEL has only NRT and SYD HND and the more I told myself not to confuse it, I did! And the proportion of frequent fliers is madness! It’s like everyone is a frequent flier. The sam happens in the US but I think it’s higher in Australia. Thanks for writing! 😃
1: Believe me - there are NO Aussie rules that stop Qantas serving alcohol in their lounges in the AM other than being cheapskate. PS: there are no Aussie rules as alcohol rules are set by the individual states. Not the federal government. 2: Most Aussies are not fit. We are just as overweight as many nations. And eat just as much junk food.
I would like to point out that the food and beverage in the lounge is not free. It is included in the cost of your business class ticket or whatever lounge you have paid for.
I’m super used to it.. But yes, it’s like a constant fatigue. So used to have super short rest periods at random timings. But still function at 110% so that’s good!
Remember it’s our summer - December to March. After a few days of hot weather when a cool change comes through we often get a storm like that. But it barely lasts an hour or so (there can be exceptions) and sometimes no rain. Because it’s summer sometimes storms like that can hit a tree and start a bushfire. I think half our bushfires are started by lightning strikes in summer.
Great flight report, Tulla might not be the flashiest airport out there but it's adequate for the amount of traffic ... and it does have its own Emirates First Class lounge ... and that counts for something 😎🥂 Glad you enjoyed yourself here ... hope you get back again sometime ... 🥃🥂🍷 Safe travels my friend. 🥂
@@xr6lad I agree but it's no where near the likes of Manila ... if and when they get a train line to Tulla, they'll need to do some drastic expansion. Shame Avalon isn't used a little more.
@@deanmeixnertbh we need to start again. We have all that land on the other side near the golf course and control towers. A new terminal that can cater for the growth. It could be connected to the domestic on the other side by an underground people mover and a link road off the Tulla Freeway. That’s how I would handle it. The issue is the current terminal has had bits tacked on again and again so it’s become a rabbit warren. I don’t think you could expand it much more .
Wow! Great trip report. Qantas' safety video is one of the best I've seen along with Air France, Virgin Atlantic and Vistara. Can you try Qantas A330 on MEL-DEL or SYD-BLR route?
The safety video is great indeed! Love this one and the Virgin Atlantic one. Vistara is creative, but after watching it once I had enough. I was about to fly them to India on my way to Dubai but my Indian Visa expired so I went via Hong Kong instead. Stay tuned!
@@TheLayoverAviationI'm Indian and no shame to admit that I've a little bias in favor of Vistara, haha! Hope to see you in India again. Tuned, as always!
Great vid. Notw that only about the Qantas 737-800 fleet (some now getting split scimitar) have IFE. The renainder are BYOD device WiFi.. all have free inflight internet
I’ve always wondered why airlines use wide-body planes for short haul flights. Here in USA Delta uses 777 or A330 for their cross-country flights. Anyone know why?
Helloooo amigo! I'm really hyped for the A380! But let's start with the 737 also a great plane! I really wish to fly on Qantas and visit Australia.. Did you liked Australia? I remember their Wuala dreaming b744 and also remember the first/only flight to Prague in 2008 also on 744.. Another awesome video! Take care and see you soon! 😊
Hi Alex, Just to Say Dhaka Terminal 3 is open it opened at 7th October 2023 Please Visit it And My recommended flight is to take Dhaka To Doha Or Dubai Thanks Alex And hope you have a great week
I flew Australia busiest domestic flight for the 1st time last May from Sydney to Melbourne, but on JQ505 and the flight is good and okay, 1 and a half hours.
I just uploaded similar trip report as well just a couple hours ago! My syd-mel flight was really pleasant! I feel that the cabin crews for domestic flights are more friendly. I even got invited to visit the cockpit! It was an amazing experience ☺️
I’m just having a look now! I checked some fares to CGK a while ago and that’s the most affordable way to fly Qantas internationally, I almost did it until my plans changed. Gad you got to visit the cockpit! have a nice one my friend!
@@TheLayoverAviation really? How about DPS (Bali)? But I think they don’t use wide-body aircraft for all flights to Bali… thanks again for visiting my channel, mate!
7:18 yes the classic bulb with the filament usually are earlier burned out as switching them off or on are the most critical situation for them. The flights themself are not an issue as these are built for rough service.
No way! Small world! By the way, I love how Qantas stopped all ramp activity during the storm and delayed all flights for staff safety. I’ve never experienced that anywhere else before! So good his employer is considerate.
@@TheLayoverAviation apparently the ramp staff call it a "blue light disco" (blue light discos were popular for young teens in the 1980s, organised by local police youth groups). Thunderstorms are regular during the summer and lightning strikes too regular. 4 people were hit near the Sydney Opera House just two days ago
My last trip to Sydney was back in 2018, I remember departing out of 34L, the landing captured really reminded me of those good times.Thank you for this video!
Just discovered your channel by happenstance. It’s awesome!… My Pa was a DC9 captain (ex service) back in the 70’s with TAA. Often spent time upfront, mostly melb - Syd routes. He retired aged 55. Keep up the great posts, mate🙏🏻
Welcome to the team Michael, thanks for joining! Glad you like the video’s. I’m sure you’ll find some better ones around. Glad you got to spend time at the front, specially of the epic DC-9. I’ve also got family in the cockpit and got to spend a lot of time there when I was a kid. Fond memories 😃 Thanks for writing!
So glad you enjoyed Qantas’ bread and butter domestic route. Loved the apron shots. Looking forward to the A380 to HKG. Stiff competition with CX’s 4 daily flights. They have no love for each other despite Oneworld relations.
That is the risk of joining an alliance! The same goes with Qantas and Qatar Airways. They should be great partners on paper but Qantas doesn’t seem to be able to stand QR and much rather prefers to work with Emirates. And it really makes sense to me as both EK and QF are such cool and fun airlines. I’m working hard on the video, stay tuned!
Hola Amigo! Finalmente!! Was in anticipation of your Qantas report. Poured a Campo Viejo for watching this video. Great report as always. Protocol when I flew 747 was always have navigation lights on! Both on KLM and Air NZ. Nice to see some Air NZ planes in your report! Still think Livery is stunning. When I finished on the 747 livery was very blend light green. Especially the All Blacks livery planes like the 777-300ER really stands out! Anyway, with QF you have attributed greatly to your experiences! Well done!! Next one, the great beast! Can't wait! Don't let us wait for 2 weeks mate! Heel veel dank en goed gedaan! Hartelijke groet, Flip.
Amigo! I don’t know if I told my Campo Viejo story.. I hold that wine dear to my heart as it was the first wine I got to drink. I fancied this girl when I was 20, she was older, and when she invited me over for dinner there was this Campo Viejo bottle. I had no idea about wines, just mixers and beer, so I pretended to like it. And each time I would go there would be Campo Viejo as she thought I loved it. And I learned how to love it, and it eventually made me the wine lover I am today! It’s nice indeed to see some different planes at the airport. Even I am not used seeing Air NZ except for in LAX and LHR. Gorgeous plane! Thanks for writing and keep enjoying that Campo Viejo!
Haven’t been on a 737 since 2018, and that was on a Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-800 from Istanbul to Birmingham (UK). Enjoyed seeing how Qantas does their things on these short 1 hour hops. *Thanks for the great content as always my friend. 😊*
This was such a great review and experience to watch as I know Qantas have a good reputation. Yes I’ve heard of the Mel-Syd shuttle a very busy route indeed. I’m very impressed with the look of the cabin, seat and inflight individual entertainment screens. Yes agree I wish European carriers would follow and take note that this would make such a difference for the passengers flight experience. Good job Qantas on the vegan snack 👏. Really great stuff as always 👍✈️
Hi Alex, nice to see you in Australia. Qantas offers an excellent service on domestic routes. Nice lounges, some with dedicated check-in and security facilities, nice staff mostly, great food and wines. I collect Qantas miles with my credit card and travel Qantas all the time, often in business. But its catering for Economy is always good.
The only serious downturn is an ageing B737 fleet. You are lucky if you get 2014-built examples with the Boeing Sky Interior. The majority of them are old and have nothing to write home about. Looking forward to new A220 and A321 neo, they should revolutionize domestic travel on Qantas
Hey Andrew, I’m hard at work on a Qantas A380 video. All you said is true, they’re great. Super staff, great facilities and enjoyed the food and wines. Stay tuned! Thanks for writing buddy!
I don’t really count TK as an Euro carrier as they’re not an airline to fly for intra European flights. Most people connect to Türkiye and beyond. But yes, TK is otherwise top!
Thanks for the amazing video. Pls help me with one query. I am traveling with my family of 3 (30kg*4 bags) so can we do combined luggage check in of 120kg at kiosk or it will take 1 passenger (40kg) at a time.
I see. When I flew Jetstar from Honolulu to Sydney last May, it's around $200 to $300 and it's cheap. When I flew Scoot from Melbourne to Singapore last May, it's less than $400 and it's cheap.
Awesome tripreport Alex.... didn't know Qantas had an ife on their 737s! Wish all European airlines were like this... well, besides TK.. amazing video and can't wait for the next One! Love from Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 ❤!
@@CHAuto333 yeah... well the sad part about euro airlines is that they don't offer a real business class on domestic flights, nor an IFE on any old or new narrowbody plane!
@@velvetacik True- but many European sectors are shorter, versus the five hours spent on a 737 from Sydney to Bali without IFE or wifi. Flying for one hour on Euro-business (with better food than Qantas) is okay. The seats are the same but the duration makes it tolerable. Air France and KLM are decent for business class.
