Flying for 20 hours is probably 1,000 times safer than going 12,500 feet below the surface of the ocean in the "Titan" submarine to see the Titanic's wreckage. I was just in Australia this past May. The flight from JFK to LAX was 5 hours and 27 minutes and then LAX to MEL was 15 hours and 30 minutes.

I was hoping for some information on the specific planes. At least there was a short bit of video showing the Boeing 787... if they chose video that correlates to the story. Many times, the media just grabs any stock footage. They seem to feel a plane, is a plane, is a plane. I saw one just 9-hours ago on the GE9X engines on the Boeing 777X, and the footage showed a 747-8. Many viewers actually have an interest in the planes themselves. We like to be informed about the various models. Fortunately, I was able to learn more from other commenters than from the news story itself.
@mnewm21
@mnewm21 Год назад
well the plane chosen was the A350-1000 so I guess the video doesn't relate? The 787 is used on their current extended long haul flights between Perth and London but isn't economically viable for Ultra Long Haul. Personally I can't think of anything worse as getting off in an airport mid journey provides a great stretch of the legs and escape from whoever is around you for a couple of hours before reboarding! Saving 4 hours of time is not really a game changer. IF they get the supersonic club going again then halving the flying time is a game changer potentially.

And a new price tag of an Economy Seat will match a normal First Class/Business price for a flight like this, with less seats. The fuel saved isn't enough to offset a few extra seated passengers so the prices will have to be much higher. Luggage? Yeah, you gotta pay for that extra too.

You can do it as this EWR/JFK-SIN-SYD on SQ ( you are going to need United Airlines mileage plus for SQ Star Alliance )or Oneworld AA/QF EWR/JFK-DFW-SYD (requires American Airlines Advantage Plus to access Qantas lounges if elite Tiers on Oneworld) American Airlines QF Cathay Pacific One World also offers the Hong Kong route stop over EWR/JFK-HKG-SYD.

Remember that Air New Zealand Star Alliance Gold gets access to UA Clubs in EWR Terminals A & C. Reverse actually works UA Mileage Plus on NZ. CX needs AA Advantage & BA Avios to work. So why did the switch from Boing to Airbus ?
@kobyschechter8163
@kobyschechter8163 Год назад
Because the 787 can't fly for 20 hours with a full payload. The weight would cause the plane to run out of fuel faster. I was just in Melbourne Australia in May. My mom and I had to stop in LAX (literally the worst airport ever, it's disgusting) after we left from JFK. The flight from JFK to LAX was 5 hours and 27 minutes and then LAX to MEL was 15 hours and 30 minutes. The flight from LAX to MEL was on a 787.

Water - yes. Natural almonds - snack. Certain fruits. Walking/jogging with 13kgs of tools in my backpack all works for me prior to the 2.30AM start of a shift of around 12 hours driving for Greyhound Australia from Rockhampton to Townsville. Not many low sugar/high fibre muesli or cereals on the supermarket shelves but I spotted a liver cleansing one (must blow "0.00" every time). Timing is everything in transportation. Steak burger 🍔 🍺 after duty is complete. Red capsicum (bell pepper) is a staple too 👍

As an Aussie pilot that works in the US I will never fly Qantas home again, they offer a subpar product for a premium. United out of the west coast is good, Hawaiian EXCELLENT but that requires going through HNL. I flew Air NZ back once and they were fantastic but yes, via Auckland. The fact that Aussie pilots are leaving QF to take the E3 Visa gigs with ULCCs, LCCs and ACMI operators in the US should tell you enough of the professional regard for Joyce and QF group.
