Holy cannelloni, this is amazing! Such an impressive instrument and player. Really liked her song. But can't help but wonder...70-something strings - that'll take a while to tune. And it has levers for changing the pitch and the bridge is mounted on fish skin? That's not helping with keeping in tune, isit? :D

Kanun comes out from the greek word "Κανών" (Kanoon) that means "Rule". It is based in ancient music theory from mathematician Pythagoras.

Fady Al Qaisy Sorry my friend but the word is κανων in Greek and it is the κανων of Pythagoras Do you know anything about Byzantine music ? We have the same scales We call them ήχους which means sounds and you call them makamss you are talking to a Greek the Greeks know the divisions in music is in our culture our religion and traditional music for thousands of years This instrument has been found in Ancient Greek places In Byzantine pictures you can see the same instruments that we use now Pandouris is bouzouki you can find even in ancient statue in Peloponnesus Psaltirion kanon you can see it in Byzantine but also is recorded by Pythagoras Lagouto pictures also in Byzantine icons The truth is that you arabs have ancient civilization and deep culture You delivered and spread Greek knowledge from Andalusia Spain a lot of Greek writes was delivered by you to the west you used to be traders and we used to be too back before centuries while the north west Europeans used to be with not any progress
@apmikalogran
@apmikalogran 5 лет назад
Fady Al Qaisy Peace from Crete the place that Palestinian come from finikas I don’t accept what you say about the word the world used to be alexandrine for centuries nobody could add something in Ancient Greek writes in 1204 the westerns stole from konstantinoupoli the major amount of Ancient Greek writes and the rebirth of culture took place after in Europe based in Ancient Greek wisdom

It means law because the name is coming from the Greek word "κανόνας'' which has the meaning of law in ancient Greek also the Greek word expressing this instrument is ''κανονάκι" which has the exact same meaning. The origin of this instrument must be from Israel, I am not 100% sure. This kind of music system with sub-notes originates and was established in Byzantium in approx. 800 A.D.
