QI | Gyles' Never Ending Anecdote 

The difference between Gyles and other people who don't know when to shut up, is that Gyles is genuinely interesting and entertaining and can laugh at himself.

I think I speak for everyone when I say you should upload a full version.

Gyles Brandreth, the great storyteller, and Sally Phillips, his lone attentive listener. Her and all of us, of course.

Giles is a master of comedic timing, delivery and misdirection. His stories always take the most bizarre and hilarious left turns into insanity.

This is the man who holds the world record for longest after-dinner speech - twelve hours and thirty minutes, so probably also counts as the longest after-breakfast speech too.

Sally genuinely interested in someone's story is just so refreshing for some reason. She seems like a very nice person to hang out with.

Brandreth plays with his perceived character so well. His, "Okay; you live and learn...", at 1:58, was brilliant. Smoothly self-aware.

NOOOO, they left out the best part. When Gyles talks about having eating "human". it is one of my favourite moments of all of QI "I once ate a human" and all of a sudden for a split second, its as quiet as a crypt :D For anybody interested this clip (and the one Im referencing are in episode "Piecemeal". Enjoy!

I’m going to adapt this anecdote for the stage.

"I know there are bonus points for courtesy" I've never heard a more British statement 😂

And Gyles Brandreth was then speaking as the whistle went, gained an extra point for doing so and is now in the lead!

They should do an April Fools' episode where Sandi asks the first question and the response is 30 minutes (45 for the XL version, of course) of one of Gyles' anecdotes

This is maybe the third time I have seen him on QI and I really don't have a good idea who he is but I find him hilarious, from the US.

I'm amazed how much I love this man even though our political views are very much unalike.

This reminds me of the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah - the important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

I expected a longer video.

Give Gyles his own show where he can just talk about his life experiences, I'd watch that! Or maybe a podcast, then you can do other stuff at the same time, I guess.

Gyles is a national treasure. What a story teller he is.

Doesn't it rather defy the point to edit this one for brevity? Reminds me of the time I was asked to edit a friend's screenplay (he was later arrested, but that's a different story...)

Gyles is also a very talented author. I recently read his novel. Jack The Ripper, Case Solved. . its an outstanding piece of fiction.

I'm American but love British panel shows along with British TV as a whole. The only way I can get some shows is via RU-vid *ahem* unauthorized uploads. But Gyles quickly became one of my favorites even though I have no clue who he is nothing but loved whenever I run across him. Such a gem for a whole nation and more!

I absolutely adore Giles B. He can be educational & tell serious anecdotes with such an amusing irony and sense of humour that you find yourself laughing out loud. He has led an incredible life and I wish he was my best friend. Then I could invite him to dinner every week and charge my friends for the priviledge of sitting down with him (no, Giles, you would not get a cut. It would just be plain rude to offer your besty crude cash.)

I love Gyles Brandreth. He is hugely knowledgeable, has an excellent memory, and is very funny. He would be right at the top of my list of who I would love to invite to a friendly meal. Greg Davis and Rob Brydon too.

I'm sure many have requested this: please do 'Gyles Brandreth's Anecdotes.' I've no doubt he has enough to make two videos. Series P Episode 3 and recently Series S Episode 4 were pack with Quite Interesting stories.

My favourite little thing about this is the impressed look on Jimmy's face at Gyles' quick thinking of that orgy party joke.
