Qissa e Parsi : The Parsi Story

Indian Diplomacy

The Film explores the history of the Parsi community, its relationship to the Indian state and association with the city of Mumbai. It strives to understand the Zoroastrian faith, and the philosophy to live, laugh and love, which is the backbone of the Parsi way of life, and what makes it so endearingly unique and beloved. As the community is plagued with anxieties over its dwindling numbers, it looks at current debates on issues of inter-faith marriage. On the whole, It is an attempt to understand a community which has always been numerically small, yet, culturally and socially formidable.

@Truthfears Guilty Artificial insemination with sperms from Zoorastrian males may help the community survive even when they girls have married out side, husbands wouldn't really know would they? ha ha just a suggestion, I like that joke about a Zoorastrian with a hard on walks into a wall, breaks his nose first, didn't know the thingy was so small! ha ha

My first Parsi friend was surprisingly from Hyderabad, not Mumbai. It was from his old parents that I learned about the massacre of Hindus carried out by Razkar Muslims during the time of independence, before Patel sent in the army - facts that I later found to be true. I am not a Parsi but I'll tell you that the Parsi community is the greatest in the whole world. Their track record shows a list of achievers, contributors, entrepreneurs, artists, scientists, philanthropists, etc. They have always known to give, give and give and in the process enrich those who genuinely associate with them. They have high ethical standards, respect for their culture and possess a fantastic sense of humour. They have never known to cause harm to anyone- if only it is just the opposite of it. They are really in minority and yet never ever raise a hue or cry about it (in many ways, they are entitled to do that). Truly, they deserve a lot more when you compare with other major communities around the world. My best wishes to them and I just wish this community grows in size and that they are protected at all costs. This is a lovely documentary. It kind of showcases what Parsis are all about.

Vikram You might have your perception. Rest assured your statement is nomadic and ignorant. India being a Hindu nation welcomed everyone from Pasi Musle and Christians. India even welcome sikhs in 1947 with open arms when they were running from pakistan. Its the essence of time. There was a time in History when Parsi's wanted to eliminate India from the face of earth and look at the tirany of time the last living parsi's has to take refuge in India to protect their race and religion Zoroastrian. So its HINDUS who are the most kind and accepted every needy in the world. Har Har Mahadev Jai Hind

In my understanding the community alone could have the maximum number of Bharat Ratans. A true symbol of devotion to hard work and their country, generosity and selfless charity to the community, creativity in the works of arts and culture and above all love for India. Yes our country's name has always been Iran b/c of the many Iranian branches together. We do absolutely hate the regime, you are spot on, and want to go back to our real roots and also have a democratic Iran with NO mullahs. We are all one people, Kurds, Persian, Ossetian, Zazaki, Talysh, Tati, Mazani, Gilaki, Laki, Lur, Bakhtiari , Semnani, Baluch, Pashtun, Tajik, Pamiris who all speak a varied branch of Iranian languages. Kurds are the second biggest Iranian branch, which makes them the big brother of all the other Iranians. Before the war with the Ottomans which separated what was northwestern region of Iran, splitting the Kurds, the Kurds were never a minority in Iran. Even the Safavids were originally a Kurdish clan of Zarrin-kolah of Nahavand. The British and Russians divided our lands to keep us week. It's also my wish and dream that one day we all reunite under one united land! I think the Kurds have the power to make that happen, and help create the constitution for it. If we ever get rid of mullahs (which we will) be ready to take back your lands/all of Iran.

As an Iranian, I would like to travel to India one day and meet my fellow Persians in India. For us Iranians, the Parsis of India are like pure jewels that have remained for us from the brilliant past of our time. When I read history, I see that Indian Parsis have always remembered their Iranian compatriots in times of need, for example, in the same corona virus that passed, Indian Parsis gave a large amount of vaccines to the people of Iran. When I found out about this for the first time, I became very emotional and cried. I deeply believe that one day our country, Iran, will be freed from the hands of the Arab demons who have taken over Iran's sovereignty for a thousand years and are making the people of Iran suffer, and all of us Persians will unite again and build our Ahurai country.

Mokh7777 Iranians in my mind aren’t all Zoroastrian. They must follow the religion themselves, have a Naujote & go through the entire process that actual Zoroastrians do. It’s like being baptized into the religion. I am a Zoroastrian who lives in Canada where plenty of Irani people live & I constantly get asked if I am Persian, I will answer them with “I am Zoroastrian, which is an old Persian religion” & they will have the most confused look on their face b/c they don’t know what Zoroastrianism is, though the Fravashi is the same symbol that all Iranians use.
@Mokh7777
@Mokh7777 5 лет назад
Kass They definitely would know what Zoroastrianism is (Mazdayasna/Zartoshti as it is referred in Persian). Perhaps they get confused when you mention you’re not from Iran or not Persian, since it’s an Iranian/Persian following. Navjote is for Parsis (Persian) Zoroastrians of India. The Iranian Zoroastrians call it Sedreh pushi. The Parsis of India also added some rules to keep their Parsi ethnicity from mixing with other Indians that does not exist amongst Iranians since they already carry the blood. What I meant is culturally Iranians/Persians’ culture still pretty much remains pre-Islamic Zoroastrian/Mithraic and still continue to carry the same traditions in all the various regions of Iran from thousands of years ago before Islam even arrived. When I compare them with Iranians in Iran, they still seem to be far more successful (for instance, in business) especially when you consider they are a tiny minority. As an Iranian, I deeply believe this. And addressing my dear friend who said that we should solve our problem by ourselves, I must say that the Persians living in India are also considered among us. If the Persians of India were only Indians who are Zoroastrian, their name would not be Persian anymore! Parsi is a Persian word and in its meaning it means someone who belongs to the land of Pars "Iran". The Persian Zoroastrians of India have been in India for a thousand years, but they all have Iranian names, and on the facades of their fire temples, they carve the figures of Persian soldiers of Persepolis Palace in Iran. Those male soldiers do not belong to the Zoroastrian religion, but they are Iranian soldiers. Although, being a Zoroastrian in general means being an Iranian, from where it is clearly written in the Zoroastrian Avesta book, "I praise Far Iran". (Far is a Persian word that has a great place in Zoroastrian belief and I don't know its meaning in other languages, maybe the closest meaning for Far is spirit or existence)

Zartoast was born in south Afghanistan, about 1700 bc. When the Harappan civilization ended in 1900 bc, its influence seems to have encouraged Zoroastrian religious thoughts (similar to the Vedic purport) to have been embraced by the local community, but spread over to the west. The Vedic tradition is an extension of still older Puranic tradition of the Yadav tribe of Krishna who preached the glorious Sanatan religion of Vasudeva Vishnu.

The only country where these Zorastrian Persians could feel safe was India and migrated to western shores of India and eventually flourished even as an ethnic group foreign to Indian soil. Tolerent and non violent India gave refuge to many tribes over millenia - such as Indo Aryans, Scythians, Persians, Jews , Syrian Christians, Burmese Buddhists, Bangladeshi Muslims and recently Tibetans who fled from Chinese occupation of Tibet.
