You did a good job showing how to correct the worn bushing hole before final reaming.

Thank you for taking the time to make these videos and posting them. I have a cuckoo quail waiting for me to work on so your explanations of how these work are helpful. I don't think this video is too long at all - you show a good amount of detail while editing out repetitive steps. My preference is to clean everything and polish pivots before bushing work on the theory that polishing may reduce the diameter of the pivot a small amount but having said that at the end of the video it looks like you got all three gear trains running very well.

Thanks Paul. I appreciate the feedback and you have a valid point and to be honest sometimes i do before and sometimes after, if the pivots are really bad then its best to do before. Thanks!

Hi Chris… incredibly delicate work for sure. I’m impressed with how patient you are in the repair demonstration you’ve shared. I recently got one of my cuckoo clocks repaired by a company that I must admit was not totally thrilled with and spent more than I would have ever expected. My concern after having the clock cleaned, lubricated and supposedly tested… got the clock back only to have to return it for more work since things still didn’t work properly. I finally have it back and it essentially works okay, but in pulling of the chains of my one day movement for both bird and music at both hour and half… the chains are so rough in pulling them up. Wondered if you have any suggestions to help return them to a bit smoother movement? Thanks.

Hi Chris, I appreciate your thorough videos which have been very helpful as I picked up 3 old cuckoo clocks at a garage sale recently. I was working on a cuckoo clock and at the left side train with weight (3 total - left for the timing mechanism, center for the cuckoo, and right for the chime and object movement(water wheel and two saw men)), the drive wheel ratchet appears to be jammed up. The other two work fine(center and right). I tried moving the clock hands to the half and whole hour settings until I hear the click without any success in getting the wheel to ratchet. It moves slightly(0.25cm each way), but will not let me pull the weight up at all. Any helpful tips would be great, thank you!

Hello Christ, how can I evaluate the necessity to put bushing? (How evaluate if the slack is to much)

Hi, I'm a newbie horologist here, really appreciate the time and effort in explaining your servicing of the mechanisms, wondering for the rachet wheel, do you disassemble and then clean or clean it as a whole piece in the cleaner fluid?
@Chrisclockrepair

Clean as a whole piece usually.

I recently received a new Time Main wheel for a Regula 25 with chain guard, and was wondering if you had any experience installing it? No matter which position I put wheel in, it rotates CW interfering with Escape/2nd wheels; moreover, the anchor post on the guard can't be attached anywhere to prevent rotation. Thanks for any input.

Without seeing it; I can't be sure. Did you compare your original wheel to the new one? It sounds like it may be the wrong wheel.

I eventually removed the chain guard, since it interfered with wheel movement.

Also have seen some videos they use a soft toothbrush to brush and clean after soaking in cleaner, advisable or not if an ultrasonic cleaner is unavailable?
@Chrisclockrepair
@Chrisclockrepair 2 года назад
I don’t have an ultrasonic cleaner either. I have used a toothbrush and it will work, but its not gonna come out super bright. I let mine soak in a cleaner and put a body massager on the bucket to vibrate the solution and that works really well actually.

If you had made your own bushings you wouldn't have to go through all that cutting down. Also you would be able to see where you had re-bushed. You cut the protruding bush to low it is now thinner then the plate this will cause to much end shake. What a bloody mess you have left.
